I have a horse that raced these races. He turned 6 years old a couple of days ago. When he was 5, he was done. Never won a race and fell the last race.
    He is traumatized.
When I got him, he was scared, turned inside himself and he didn't want to have anything to do with any human. After a couple weeks he trusted me and I could brush him and lunge him. Now we ride him too.
He likes jumping. He is fast too.
But he is not strong enough yet. He was extremely skinny when I bought him. 150 kilos underweight. That is massive. Now we feed him lots of good hay, senior soaked food and bix. He is getting on weight and muscle.
I don't like horse racing. The accidents are horrible, for both horses and humans. The training can be so cruel. It is nice to see this man, who is really nice for the horses. I wish they were all like him.
I watch this so I know what my horse has done and been through. It gives me more understanding of what he can and what he knows.
He likes jumping and gallopping. But he also likes dressage.
So for me it is figuring out what he likes to do and what he can do. It is a lovely journey with tears, blood and sweat. But I know that in the end he will be awesome! He is the sweetest horse I've ever met. Well behaved, well raised and so gentle. Not mean or nasty. A horse you can trust. And for a thoroughbred he is very calm and patient.
Although he is getting more and more feisty now he is getting good food and better muscles.
Next year he will be ready for some competition, whatever it will be.

Not every horse wants to be a race horse. But not all racing is bad. Watching ONE documentary doesnt help you understand a sport. Let me know if you want to go see a racing yard/stable. No one is abusing these horses. There are bad apples in the racing world, like all sports and businesses.

    • @lisadaniels6020
      @lisadaniels6020 2 года назад +4

The lows are devestating. I was married to a jockey for almost 30 years. It was amazing how it was ME that would get sad and frustrated FOR HIM while he remained rock solid and steady. Watching him ride a horse from forst race to MANY WINS and hearing him tell me he was taken off for no other reason other than trainers and owners do this when the horse becomes a world beater. It’s a TOUGH TOUGH LIFE and there are way tooooo many jocks who end up mentally and physically broken. There definitely needs to be mental health care for these men and women. So many suicides among jockeys. It’s really sad.

I have been watching racing for over 55 years and I can tell you he must be one of the best tactically aware race riding jockeys around in the business today, a true professional class act. If I was lucky enough to own a string of racehorses Daryl would be offered the chance to ride for me...I hope your future is blessed with winners all the very best to you & your beautiful understanding family.

Such an abusive sport, I hope one day the obsession stops and the horses can be free without being a victim of the human addiction 😢❤ People saying that they have respect for a rider who puts their life on the line for the sport but I have much more respect for riders that put their life on the line for the horse. No jockey can say if they are in that industry that they have done that. It's a selfish and self obsessed sport. The horses aren't animals they are machines and when they don't get the results people want, then they get disposed of. What kind of industry can you say you respect that, it's disgusting. The emotion comes from the winning or loss of, not for the the love of the horse.

@@archiesracing8728 the conditional is a cracking horse. Though Kildisart chased him home an nearly nabbed the conditional on the line :) good luck.

@@rachaeldavie4215 yes that race at Cheltenham was amazing and both horses gave there heart.
I believed the conditional deserved to win but that my opinion.
Well up the grand national now and i hope you lots of luck and a blessed day
Plus i agree The Conditional was a cracking horse RIP

@@archiesracing8728 youve just broken my heart, I had no idea that the conditional was dead. Do you by any chance remember a brave flat horse named beat the bank? It ran so hard and fast on fast ground, it fractured the bones in its body and had to be put to sleep :( that was sad too.

Amazing insight into what these amazing athletes go through. Their highs lows & sheer determination is just awesome & the love they have for their sport & the horses just brings a roller coaster of emotions. Fantastic documentary, good luck & best (& safe) wishes for the future Daryl, thank you.

Regrettably this "sport" comes at an extreme cost. So many lives are lost and if they don't die they're doomed to be plagued with life long pain and limitations that might very well bring their life to an early grave if not directly by being put down on the track.

Watched this great watch people sometimes do not realise the dedication jockeys need it is not just a job but a a vocation and so commitment I have some much respect, also the stable staff grooms they are there before we even leave our beds I love racing so much it has helped me so much over many a year so privileged to watch these beautiful animals such a big part of my life, thank you.x

Not many jobs where you have an ambulance and paramedic following you around, jump racing is not for the faint of heart. Most top jump jockeys will break a lot of bones in their bodies through a career.
