How to unlock you GM Chevy GMC Truck with a STICK

- This video shows you can open a door ( un-lock )on a 1988 Chevy truck with a stick. May work on other years and makes with similar locking systems. Recommend for emergencies only.

after 3 hours of trying it with a slim jim, a brake line & paint stick, the idea of a rock is starting to sound like good idea.
The windshield is the cheapest window to replace fyi.
I finally got it, but not that way, I used a long brake line through the door frame & pulled the lock open. 5 minutes.
Definitely better than a “how to unlock your truck with a rock video” 😎

It worked for me power windows and power locks I used a dry rag and ruler got in less than a minute

To anyone with a chevy or gmc truck from 1999 and under, you can use another key from a chevy or gmc from that year and you can open the door using that key. I guess if your door locks are old enough and the key has enough ridges, the truck will think thats the factory key. Another tip is using a flathead screw driver and inserting the screw driver into the key hole and twist.

Just did this last night and it worked but it also made the lock rod come out now I’m going to have to take the door panel off to put it back but it worked so I’m cool
Those clips that hold the rod get brittle over time and break. They sell them at parts store if needed. Is possible you pushed the clip off the rod and just have to pop it back on. Glad video helped.

Yeah but did you use a stick? Oak? Pine? Hardwood Softwood these things could affect the next guys outcome! Personally I look for the pi e cuz you also get a added air freshness I mean come on thats as good as it gets! Right! You unlock your truck plus freshen the air! Aww snap j/k it's my idea tho. Best tip we ever learned about our 99 Tahoe when we were locked out at the casino was from a cool cop. Any Chevy key, before they were chipped in later years, will unlock any Chevy vehicle. They will not start it but they will do everything else. Neighbor had an old Chevy key laying around tonight and opened right up. Never ceases to amaze me.

Seriously tho any older chevy or does it have to be a tahoe key to work on other tahoe key etc? Good ol Chevrolet clearly thinking ahead, that team must have had a bad experience with getting locked out so the decide to start making keys that can get into anyone else's 05-06 and older (I think.. i'm sure I'll be corrected for that guess) So in theory I always have a key to get into my truck cuz that one dude with the same looking truck that we all know.. yep that dude!! He's gonna be riding by soon and see that I need his key. 🤔 Must test theory out now I'll be on the corner by Wal-mart locked out my Chevy waiting on that dude to bring me any older Chevy key. I'm for real tho bout to go find out

Just saying this comment saved a lot of headache I have 2 trucks, a 92 and a 95 I locked my keys in the 95 do to an aftermarket alarm system I'm not used to and the key for the 92 door unlocked miming just fine so thank you very much!

Hi I seen your window sweep came out super easy mine is not coming off it’s on a 1992
Now I know to stop prying my door open to get tubes in the gap and using a quarter inch copper to grab my keys

I’m trying to replace my window sweep the plastic trim you popped out at the beginning of the video
But mine is not coming out easy and I see some people removing the mirror to remove them
There are metal clips impeded in the trim. Mine were loose when I bought the truck. You have to roll down window a pry gently from the out side under the trim until you pop the clips.
whered you get the bungee strap for the bed? That looks awesome for keeping most of the bed length but still putting a few odds and ends in it.
It wasn't a bungee. I found it in a junk yard. It was a three piece pull strap set up. It fit perfect.

All you need is a screwdriver and it will unlock the door that's what I did and it only took 5 minutes
