The Gambler before Scarface, Ghostbusters, Any Mad Max film, Raging Bull, Chinatown, State of grace, Before the devil knows your dead, Carlito's way, Blade runner, Platoon??
I barely got through this movie once. Never had a desire to watch it again. Out of the vast array of movies they could choose from and they chose absolute trash 2 weeks in a row.
Man, I'm surprised Fennessey isn't on this. I may be misremembering but I think the whole reason I watched it was because of something he wrote about it on his Tumblr at the time.
"The Gambler"? seriously? You haven't done "Sicario", "Aliens", "Django Unchained", ... I could go on and on. I know you are in bed with the gambling industry, but please do better. Still a big fan!
So Bill allegedly hates remakes. Yet we got The Gambler remake before Scarface, Airplane, Anchorman and Animal House? Wtf are we even doing at this point?
This feels like a one for Chris as payback for Bill's Eagle blasphemy. Like he won a bet and this is what he chose. Next time just take the $100 Chris and if you choose a Whalberg film, go for Ted. ETA: Or even better, the other guys. There is so much stuff to talk about in a movie that in my opinion is not talked about enough. Plus if you have Van in there, I have a feeling him talking about Eva Mendes will be an all time classic.
Agree with you. Think the issue for people is mainly bounces back and forth between over the top and gritty. Think it’s a narrow pocket for it to vibe with viewer but is excellent if it works for you.
28:01 how come no other states roads get mentioned? NYC specifically does but all of California is mentioned in movies or shows the PCH, the 405, the 101, Route 66 , sunset boulevard, melrose , rodeo drive , laurel canyon parkway… only NYC do I know as many roads I’ve NEVER been on lol
I thought this movie was pretty hollow compared to the James Caan version. That one holds up too. Surprised this was on the rewatchable list. Kinda thought Wahlberg sucked
last i checked this was a real movie. There's a script, a director, and a cast and it was released in theaters. So unless I'm crazy this is indeed a real film.
I'm pretty sure Bill is just trolling with some of these rewatchables. I think he wants someone to have the balls to challenge him by yelling WHAT THE HELL THE GAMBLER NO WILLIAM WE ARE NOT DOING THAT. And that person will be promoted. Or he's enjoying a whiskey in the evening and whatever he finds on cable suddenly seems amazing when the warmth spreads over him. Goodman is great though.
Yes Bill, no Bill, three bags full Bill. There's no way in my mind any person who isn't actually paid by Bill would sit and discuss a movie with him. Has the other guy got no self-respect? He's the one who should be the host, he actually has something of interest to say. Guy, start up your own show ... Bill is holding you back.
The Gambler before Scarface, Ghostbusters, Any Mad Max film, Raging Bull, Chinatown, State of grace, Before the devil knows your dead, Carlito's way, Blade runner, Platoon??
“One for Us” Rewatchable
Specifically "one for CR" 😂😂
We got The Gambler rewatchables before Interstellar
It’s not a rewatchable that’s why. It’s a fantastic movie but definitely not a rewatchable
I barely got through this movie once. Never had a desire to watch it again. Out of the vast array of movies they could choose from and they chose absolute trash 2 weeks in a row.
This podcast forced me to eat a bowl of high fiber cereal at 1am and now I don't feel good
This movie is actually beautifully shot but literally all other aspects are utter garbage. Horrific acting and completely incoherent.
Man, I'm surprised Fennessey isn't on this. I may be misremembering but I think the whole reason I watched it was because of something he wrote about it on his Tumblr at the time.
we got the gambler before scarface
@@andrewchaikin4478 That’s sad.
I'm so happy this exists. This has been a rewatchable of mine for years. Thank you!
The original is a rewatchable. This movie is barely watchable.
Not a good movie at all lol
This is a highly entertaining podcast when they actually talk about good movies or even movies so bad that they're good, but this movie is crap.
The RE "Bill Simmons I want to talk about terrible movies"ABLES
This movie is amazing. You’re not smart enough to understand it. Sorry, bud
Amazing : causing great surprise or wonder; astonishing.
I don't know if I am smart enough but I know one thing for sure now you are a moron.
@@srsieg1155 Look who's being a schmuck because someone has a different opinion.
"The Gambler"? seriously? You haven't done "Sicario", "Aliens", "Django Unchained", ... I could go on and on. I know you are in bed with the gambling industry, but please do better.
Still a big fan!
Waaaa
The cereal discussion was more interesting than the rest of the pod, lol. Love you guys, though.
Not a rewatchable!! Watching it once was bad enough.
You’re not very bright. It’s fine, though. Buddy😊
This pod is the jumping the shark moment
...and we still don't have The Burbs?! You could find The Burbs on TV almost every day for a stretch in the 90s, now that's a rewatchable.
Really thought you were gonna do Four Brothers. Especially conaidering its Christmas. I am sad
Idc what anyone says, a guilty pleasure rewatchable
Best black jack scene is Austin Powers without question. “I also like to live dangerously”
So Bill allegedly hates remakes. Yet we got The Gambler remake before Scarface, Airplane, Anchorman and Animal House? Wtf are we even doing at this point?
great new look, but let’s get this set centered with the cameras. the non-symmetry is killing me hahha
Alright guys give us what we want do black hat again, there has been enough time
THE SHARK HAS BEEN JUMPED!
22 was also the number that Rick fixed for the refugee couple in Casablanca.
Sometimes you love a shit movie and just wanna talk about it. This is way more fun than any of the obvious movie nerd choices.
Owning Mahowny is a rewatchable movie about gambling addiction. Starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
This feels like a one for Chris as payback for Bill's Eagle blasphemy. Like he won a bet and this is what he chose. Next time just take the $100 Chris and if you choose a Whalberg film, go for Ted.

Bill says in the first 40 seconds of the podcast that he likes the movie.
Reading the comments...ouch...i actually liked this movie, and i appreciate you guys did it. Ill have to be in the minority on this one
Agree with you. Think the issue for people is mainly bounces back and forth between over the top and gritty. Think it’s a narrow pocket for it to vibe with viewer but is excellent if it works for you.
Imagine Bill thinking almond milk is somehow healthier. It's not, and it's waaay worse environmentally too. What a goofy time.
Bill worked for HBO for like a week and a half after he got shit canned by ESPN, what happened there? Why did HBO shit can him immediately?
The Hurley bit is gold. And what grown man goes by Danny? I legitimately hate that man lol.
The cognitive strangeness of seeing the people you usually listen to in podcast form.
I think I’m one of the few who loves this movie. Great ep boys
pod names - Cereal Killers or Killer Cereals
I’m finally getting around to watching it. We will see how it is!
This is definitely the "one for us" movies for Bill and CR😅
How did you forget Kate Beckinsale in Contraband!!!
Fargo is still available, as is Clear and Present Danger and Patriots Day if you’re picking a MW film.
Bill has already said he doesn't like Fargo.
Room was a year after this.
I guess Bill and CR were The Gambler’s target audience

Would this be a 'rewatchable' w/ a non-Bostonian star? asking for a friend
Completely agree, excellent movie if it clicks with you. Get that it won’t work for some but it’s interesting if you accept the movie on its terms.
The quality of movies n the streaming Era produce podcasts like this.
New Pod Name: Between Two Snake Plants
I thought this movie was pretty hollow compared to the James Caan version. That one holds up too. Surprised this was on the rewatchable list. Kinda thought Wahlberg sucked
This movie is just bad and woefully miscast. How about we forget this and you do Elf instead?
Bro wtf. Do real films please. These are not rewatchable films
last i checked this was a real movie. There's a script, a director, and a cast and it was released in theaters. So unless I'm crazy this is indeed a real film.
That’s boring
lol they did them all already. literally.
Which movie you suggest that they haven’t done?
You pick the movies you watch on your movie watching podcast series brotha
Sam Jackson as a 30s gangsta? Hell yeah
The Gambler? Really??😐
The original Gambler Id be all in for
Why didn't you do the original,it's actually great. Damn
I like cereal. My favorite is Grape Nuts

Goodman is great though.
Todd Phillips is a hack. Road Trip is his talent level
I can't buy Mark "5 Foot 3" Wahlberg as a tough guy but I believe him even less as a professor.
What movie did you have to scrape off the bottom of the barrel to get to this one? Kuffs? Was it Kuffs? It was Kuffs wasn't it?
Watching for the 1st time now. Can confirm on 1st viewing it stinks (so far). I'll report back if I ever rewatch 4-5 more times to "get it".
This movie was not rewatchable. Saw it yesterday it was OK at best
48:27
This movie stinks
I must see a Flight Risk trailer review! #BaldWahlberg

He has a podcast called The Watch.
