Very good and useful review and illustration of the action. By the way, I thank you for the earlier video on torch hoses. I got the adapter for the 20# tanks and like the set up much better now.

i bought one - broke one of the tool bits on the first use.... i have no idea how u got a nice rivet produced when your spinning bit is not even concave
I own a Oregon set up. I always put oil on the rivet. As per the instructions.

Older vid I know but a tip for those who are a bit heavy handed and break the punch tip. Go to the bench grinder and take a little off the rivet you are going to punch out . This will thin it and weaken it so your pressure will be easier in the tool.

Hello- im having problems with mines plz help- the spinner part on mines is loosely and when i spin it , it wobbles! Where do i need to tighten if? The black part in the spinner? Idk what the problem Im having
I've bought one of these .
I'm pretty happy with the engineering and general robustness of it it, but ... those plastic 'discs' which I would've thought were there to align the chain and keep it square through the rivetting process just don't seem to do that. If the chain runs through these 'guides' it just isn't in a straight line while the rivet's being spun.
In your demonstration it appears that you ignore making the chain ride on the discs and simply set the chain up square between the two formers. I'm also thinking that by ignoring the discs might just be the way to do it. I'm led to wonder just what the hell those discs are for.

Those "plastic discs" are for alignment of your chain. Sadly these on this particular spinner /breaker combo were just poorly engineered from the start. I'm a Faller/Logger with over 25 yrs on the mountain and we have Oregon (made in USA) Spinner and Breaker yes they are 3 times the price of this one but you get what you pay for. Ours has lasted me 20 yrs and still going strong. Just saying.

I still don’t know how to set up the spinner head versus the anvil. Obviously the hex shaped tool has to go in the spinner BUT… One end of it is perfectly flat. The other end has a sharp edged slot that just barely accepts the end of an unspun rivet. The flat side doesn’t do much of anything to the rivet when spun, as I expected. The end with the sharp edged slot just pares metal filings off the rivet when spun, instead of flattening it. Also the slotted end broke off the first time I used it.
On the other hand, the anvil has a round depression on its face that seems like it would be designed for spinning and flattening a rivet. But of course it only fits in the screw/compression/anvil side of the tool.
I just have the feeling that I am missing something really obvious. Help?
I'll reply to my own comment. By ordering a new Oregon Spinner Anvil from Amazon, I discovered (proved) that the spinner anvil that came with the HF Breaker/Spinner was defective. The maker had failed to do the final step of grinding down the anvil face into a concave shape. leaving only a sharp-edged slot on the face (like a slotted screw head). I hope many of these defective anvils did not make it through the (nonexistent?) Chinese quality control! Probably a LOT of spinner/breakers are being returned to HF for refunds if there are may of these defective anvils out there!
Mine came the same way flat and I also ordered the 2 oregon anvils for it and the oregon punch.

No because you need different ones depending on your chain.

They no need for the hammer man you just don't squash it. You are done if you can pass tour them mail over it you've done enough . if it catches your thumb nail you need just a little more . that first chain was fine you need you a good place you an set at mount your machine and have your chain where it don roll on you it takes just a little more though and you can slap one together in a couple of minutes

Good video - Short and to the point. Thanks for sharing! Product looks fairly simple and well made - Not sure why the negative comments. Harbor Freight seems to have a good return policy, so I think I will buy one and try it out. Price not much more than a pocket chain breaker, punch and ball pine hammer!

Make sure that you can't get your fingernail under the edge of the spun rivet.

Do you know where I can find replacement breaker tips? They do commonly break or wear out over time and iv always used oregon breakers that i could find the replacement parts but I cant seem to find the replacement parts for this one
Excellent video. I use one of these with very good results. The breaker tips are not very good. The tip sold by Oregon can be used if the big end is shortened about one eighth of an inch and works very well. Oregon also markets an adjustable anvil which is well worth the price. Both are available from loggerchain ( Frawleys) They are a great company.

Watching those rivets deform on the punch and round on the spinner was so cool. I’m getting more into chainsaw milking and need 36 inch ripping chains. Only problem is the cheapest chains go for more than $40 a chain! Hoping this can get me some extra chains and save money

Looks nice, I make up my own ripping chains from rolls, but just grind a bit and use a punch and hammer for breaking. A ball peen hammer for forming the rivets. Mostly sharpen with a file but have a HF grinder for chain that gets damaged by embedded metal or rock.

I haven't had any issues with either but I'm also not a lumberjack and only use it a few times a year.

The rivet spinner broke on the first chain I tried. I don't trust the chinese hardening.
Suggestion, may have exerted too much force on rear handle too fast. At start, just tighten up till kiss rivet stem. Turn front handle while adjusting rear gently. When starting to spin head, helps to rock handle back & forth a few times, then procede in one direction. Learned by experience.

The smaller size spinner head / anvil, cup set is generally used for 1/4", 0.325", 3/8" LP pitch chain. The larger set of head / anvil is made for standard 3/8" & 0.404" pitch chain. Heavier built chain chassis.
Most of these type tool have round cup tip, the hammer tip tends to be six sided.
When spinning rivet head, ensure that the parts are properly seated, or joint may fail in use.
When breaking chain, keep the cutter tooth on top, so that drive links are flat on anvil & the rivet is pressed vertically. If not done so, risk of distorting drive link. Support both drive links on the tie strap of the rivet being punched.
