Man, I miss the good old days before that move came out. What a difference. I actually saw that movie when it first came out, a matinee in Missoula Montana. After my buddy and I watched it we went over to “Liquor up front poker in the rear” for a beer. We both agreed, there goes fly fishing.
Looks like a great stream! Good videos. It's so interesting how waters in the east differ from those in the west in terms of fish size. I guess it's nutrition and mineral content, I don't know. When I lived in Wyoming in the early 1980's I fished the Middle, Red and North forks of the Powder River on the east side of the Big Horn mountains. I also fished Deep Creek on the west side. These "rivers" were about 1/3 the size of this Ausable River, at least where you were fishing. I regularly caught Browns and Rainbows in the 16 to 19 inch range, about the size of the first one filmed here. Small streams and relatively low fishing pressure, but really big trout for such small streams. Those were the days!
Congrats on your catch, what a beautiful river. If your in Columbia county,NY ,check out the Taghkanic creek off of route 82.Upstream or down stream, you won’t be disappointed
If you go just a bit farther up river just where the road opens into a passing zone wade across the river and hike up the hill there is a pond that virtually no one fishes at. You can see it on a GPS. You will catch some amazing native (none stocked) brook trout. Not trophy waters so you can eat them if you are inclined.
I grew up in that area, but I mostly fished the saranac and upper saranac. Good video on the ausable. Great fishing down my way on the battenkill and mettawee, lots of huge trout. May make you a great video.
Dan - A couple of nice holdover browns there. My vote is to go to the Esopus and would like to see a future videos of the Housatonic & Upper Deerfield River in VT.
Awesome great fishing would love to try the river river sometime soon also need to get some of your fliesAwesome great fishing would love to try the river river sometime soon also need to get some of your flies
Great vid... love it up there. So are you essentially dead drifting the bugger, just swinging it at the end? Do you find yourself using split shot that often on the euro setup? Ever fish the Hoosic?
I never ever use shot… I just use heavy flies. So the buggers I rarely rarely dead drift… in the situation casting across that current it would start to drag my line IMMEDIATELY! So… that bugger was kinda swinging across the far side at a high speed, I’m calling situations I would cast a bit more across vs up. I always try and swing or strip buggers. Hoosic once or twice but it’s on the list. Expect a video there soon! Thanks for watching
Great video. Going there in two weeks . Tried last year but water was too warm for trout. Any general pointers? Will try from hungry trout upstream. Appreciated and great job .
@@DownstreamDownrange Thanks will do. I'm from FL and have over 500 nymphs to use as am tying them but not using :-) If you ever in FLL and need some directions don't hesitate to contact me. Will set you up for some peacocks or snook.
Great fish my friend! Love the video! The clarity on your camera is awesome! Got the Hero 10 and I can't get the color clarity you have! And absolutely love the B role!!
I really enjoyed the video! It brought back some memories as I haven’t fished the WB in about 50 years. I’ll have to get back there. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome stuff man. What a brown. Way better decision going to that spot then going to a more busy spot. Even the river itself was worth it being on the water alone. Very peaceful
Excellent vid - one of my favorite places on earth. Adirondacks are amazing - I have caught trout behind grocery stores and up in the high altitude lakes alike.
Those browns were gorgeous! Another great video, thanks for sharing it! I’d like to see a video on the Esopus since it’s closer to home, and I’m more likely to go there.
Nice job Dan ! Those were two good looking browns you netted! I don’t think anyone does those underwater releases quite as well as you do , maybe I’m a close 2nd😂 ! Keep up the great videos brother and tight lines !
Nice looking stretch of water. Haven't had many opportunities to river fish. Would love to make it up to the Lake Placid region. Was the 2nd trout wild?
Looking forward to fishing the west branch of the Ausable again May “24” weekend. Since the border has been closed the family has not been down to enjoy the Adirondacks. It has been a long three years.
Nice fish! Love it up there, for fishing, camping, skiing, you name it. And a beautiful river. You see all those rocks and boulders in the water and then you start wading in and realize it's rocks and boulders all the way across. Lucky I didn't snap an ankle. : ) Oh, and Go Mountaineers
Incredible catch, was exactly there the day after you. What a nice river this time of the year, so less crowdy. Keep them coming, really love your channel.
Euro rod is 10.5 feet. It’s a 3 weight cortland competition rod. My 5 weight is 9 feet long and a TFO pro 2! Ll bean double L reel. Mono setup on euro rod (see my other video on setup)
Enjoy all your stuff D&D... especially the footage on the Farmington... my home base! Nice to see the other spots as well. Would love to know more about the Ausable. Any recomended links for info? Keep it up man!
DD! Nice big beautiful brownies! Classic colors , love the crispy clear footage above and below the water! Great all around video with helpful tips on flies especially. Water had to be wicked cold Any temperature taken? My local streams are still in the low 40’s but approaching 45 or so more with these warm nights. Good luck on the Farm. Or the Esopus. Which ever you choose. You’re really a great angler with the flyrod skillful with the whole aspect and tying your own flies! They look amazing!
Esopus tomorrow ! 😁😁😁….. water was 46! Cold and a taddddd high and a bit windy but I’ll take some stockies !!! Thanks for commenting and support as usual! Esopus video hopefully up by Tuesday
Enjoyable content. I love how you don’t just show the hookups. There are drifts with no bite, drifts with missed bites, and of course drifts with hookups. I’d love to meet up with you on a river some day.
I've been grinding, only one brown though, none as nice as your catches of course. I have a hero 9 black but no mount atm. Using my canon tripod cam. Low on flys too I'll check out your website for sure. JoshuaEustis
