The walking dead has two characters who completely changed. Most characters get worse over time, some smarter and some who thrive. But two of them stick out above the others and that are Garbriel and Carol. The were both the kind of people you'd expect to die first. Needed protection from others and slowly became the most cunning, smartest, strongest and most feared characters while still holding on to their morals. They became not just better but the best version of themselves. Ofcorse they aren't perfect and make mistakes just like any other.
Can't talk about Gabriel (haven't watched since season 6) BUT carol is exactly how youb write good, compelling and strong characters, regardless of gender. Not this bullshit assholes like Kennedy or Smith try to force feed the audience. You need a character the audienced cares for, all the rest comes after that
I think Daryl and Aaron deserve some consideration along with Gabriel and Carol. The four of them undergo massive changes in different ways, which is why they are the four best characters the show has had.

Aaron was way ahead of the curve with the alexandrians. He knew how to survive out in the world, not even alexandrias runners were competent, it was just him and eric that could survive out for any length of time

Gabriel has earned his keep and has become a fearless leader in the eyes of Rick. Rick has changed the minds of even the weak and cowardly. People aren’t born brave. They’re molded by experience. Molded by change. It’s our greatest self.
A lot of people didn't realized that at first he was afraid and not really trusting of Rick and his group. But as time when on. He saw that Rick and his people weren't what he thought they were. He realized that they were just good people trying survive in a world where they've all lost so much. As time kept passing on he saw Rick as more than just a leader. He became part of his family. And through the years, he learned to survive, fight, and trust his new family. He was also finally able to let the past go. Through that he became God's fearless soldier. And now he's just badass. It's crazy how much he has change. I couldn't imagine what would've happened if he never met Rick. I'm just glad that he's still alive and kicking asz lol.
Father Gabriel really has one of the best charecter redemption stories by far. Like he wasn't a villain like neegan but he was extremely unlikable. By the end he was a top 10 favorite charecter hell maybe even top 5 tbh. But number 1 will forever be Glenn. R.I.P Glenn

I hope Seth Gilliam is proud of himself for playing this role. It was really cool to watch this character change. I wish Beth and Sasha went further. But I appreciate the work these people put into the story. Gabriel was one of my favorites even if I didn't like him at times. Great actor. This was a really cool character. There were so many that came and went and they were all interesting. Even Lori and Andrea, Jackie and Jenner and Ed. Tyrese definitely had me crying. I appreciate these stories and father Gabe was pretty damn awesome
Father Gabriel is literally the best priest in the series, so glad AMC didn't kill him off cause in the comics he got devoured by walkers because of beta. EDIT: fun fact in prison carol was supposed to be the one who died, not T-DOG just like in the comics, in carols death she got bit by a walker on a neck, and T-DOG was closing the gate until he heard Carol's scream on the background, he turned around and saw 2 walkers devouring carol, but T-DOG was always late to the set they have no choice but to fire him and let carol to take his role overtime due to character developement.
What's very interesting and a testament to the show is that there were so many characters that had outstanding arcs. Gabriel in particular. He could have wound up like Gregory. He almost loses his life saving Gregory and does lose his eye, but he became a beacon of resilience and courage in Alexandria and remained steadfast to his friends and loved ones.

Been a fan of his since Starship Troopers. Have gotten a chance to meet and know him pretty well. One of the kindest, sweetest people you could ever meet :)
