THIS JOURNEY IS MY OWN - a song by SARA GROVES When I stand before the Lord, I'll be standing alone This journey is my own Still I want man's advice, and I need man's approval This journey is my own Why would I want to live for man, and pay the highest price What does it mean to gain a whole world, only to lose my life So much of what I do is to make a good impression This journey is my own And so much of what I say is to make myself look better But this journey is my own And why would I want to live for man, and pay the highest price And what does it mean to gain a whole world, only to lose my life And I have never felt relief like I feel it right now This journey is my own Cuz trying to please the world, it was breaking me down It was breaking me down And now I live and I breathe for an audience of one Now I live and I breathe for an audience of one Now I live and I breathe for an audience of one Cuz I know this journey is my own And why would I want to live for man, and pay the highest price And what does it mean to gain a whole world, only to lose my life And you can live for someone else, and it will only bring you pain I can't even judge myself, only the Lord can say, 'Well done.' Oh, this journey is my own
I like how they're referred to as "fingerstyle greats" I mean, they are, but I think that's a bad approximation of what they really are as musicians. They are first musicians: artists. Then guitar players, and then guitar players who play with their fingers (or not: tommy plays all kinds of styles and technique's, and is seen with a pick in his hands about as often as a thumb pick)
I doubt if they'll ever find a satisfactory conclusion and I hope they don't. Improvisational talent and innate feel take quite a few years and then some to achieve if ever. We should appreciate the fact that groundbreaking guitarists were around in our timeframe and love our serendipity.
Two great guitarists. Most folks don't realize John Knowles also has a PhD in Physics. WOW!
Thank you Tommy and John, you guys are unbelievable guitar player and thanks for the video
John Knowles is such a solid island of sound, you can safely anker up and visit his island of smooth sound and beautiful music. TM. Stellar as always.

Notice how when Tommy harmonizes his melodies he slightly staggers the notes one after the other so it naturally sounds like 2 separate guitarists.
Would love to hear these guys play "Sails."
The best duo since Chester & Lester
great interview .... I don't to often hear John speaking
THIS JOURNEY IS MY OWN - a song by SARA GROVES
When I stand before the Lord, I'll be standing alone
This journey is my own
Still I want man's advice, and I need man's approval
This journey is my own
Why would I want to live for man, and pay the highest price
What does it mean to gain a whole world, only to lose my life
So much of what I do is to make a good impression
This journey is my own
And so much of what I say is to make myself look better
But this journey is my own
And why would I want to live for man, and pay the highest price
And what does it mean to gain a whole world, only to lose my life
And I have never felt relief like I feel it right now
This journey is my own
Cuz trying to please the world, it was breaking me down
It was breaking me down
And now I live and I breathe for an audience of one
Now I live and I breathe for an audience of one
Now I live and I breathe for an audience of one
Cuz I know this journey is my own
And why would I want to live for man, and pay the highest price
And what does it mean to gain a whole world, only to lose my life
And you can live for someone else, and it will only bring you pain
I can't even judge myself, only the Lord can say, 'Well done.'
