Aside from the fail of the robots/animatronics, I would say it's a bigger fail not to have had the fight scene with Eric and Ursela.
It would be terrifying for children lmao. But that is the most epic and climatic moment I have ever seen in Disney history!

They actually stop Ariel's Under Sea Adventure like that because the ride is continuously moving and if someone needs more time getting into the ride they stop it. For instance, if someone in a wheelchair wanted to get on the ride, they'd have to stop it, wait until they are seated, then the whole ride will move again. Fun fact!

Everything "stays on" per say but the animatronics and all just kind of freeze until the floor moves again. There's no music or anything but there are some stuff that stay on/move. Not sure why that happens but it does!

Can we just take a minute to appreciate how amazing those animatronics are? The design quality! It looks so realistic! Of course it's not perfect, but I would love to see that in person one day. it's beautiful.

ChickenFlamez Ashley I've been on this ride 4 like 5 times and omg the animatronic movements are so smooth and the "Under the sea" part is so nice and colourful its absolutely wonderful, you should go to California adventures one day its surtenly worth it! :)

ChickenFlamez Ashley they look realistic except Ariel's hair bothered me the way they made it solid so with the movements it looks odd. Granted its a better choice then like a wig or something that moves, with the way her hair is.

They use a ton of expensive high speed servos. Probably at least 5 servos in just one arm.
The Restoration of Dr Who yeah theyre amazing works of robotics, just kinda off putting in the face area, haha. i like what they did with the frozen animatronics tho, the projected on faces make them a little less creepy.

It broke down when I was with Ursala.. she kept singing.. and singing.. she was just staring at me.. it was pretty terrifying

You mean his hair? Good point since everyone else's is sculpted and his isn't. Maybe they had trouble with a good range of motion for his head moving around given his big long beard?
...Though I've just dug through a few videos of the Magic Kingdom version and they're conflicting. There's one one from 2012 where his hair is sculpted, but he's like this video in the others.

1:13 That was nice that they had a pre-recorded voice of Sebastian in character to announce that there was an issue. You can tell Disney parks always have countermeasures in place that keep things feeling immersive.

I love how they don't even ruin the immersion. In a lot of rides they probably would, but they discovered the concerned figure of Sebastien fits right in as a warning message to stay in your seats, especially since if there were a theme park in Ariel's kingdom, Sebastien would probably be running most of the rides.
I think the funniest part of this is reading all the different ways people think Ursula's name is spelled

The animatronics kinda remind me of FNAF when staring at them in the cameras. Staring at either Ariel or Ursula freaks me out a little when the power is out.

the people animatronics look really smooth and that disturbs me for whatever reason.
If you don't know I'm terrified of animatronics and my lil sis loves this ride and wherever I go on the ride stops when I'm right next to dancing Ariel!! I was so terrified (edit) and the Ariel shut down and then in a really creepy way turned her head to me and blinked O_O

+Jillian Varney It starts at 1:10 and ends at 1:27. Ariel was froze and none of the animations around her were working either... it lasted for about 3 mins with no movement... I just cut out a chunk of it to keep the video from getting boring.

there was no fail they were loading handicap on on these type of rides *the haunted mansion for example* they have to fully stop the ride then turn it back on again
the little kids yelling and laughing are so sweet omg it makes me so happy
We once got stuck in the old Epcot Ball ride "Imagination." The musty smell of that experience still haunts my wife to this day.

Went on this ride a few months ago, and tbh I was a bit disappointed. I honestly beleive that they actually changed the story... Disney took the lazy way out and changed their own story? Come on. EVERYONE knows how it goes, but they change it for convenience. Disney is very good with making clever ways to incorporate their stories, but I just wasn't feeling it. Idk maybe I'm just being too nitpicky, but really? She kissed Eric after "Kiss the girl"?! This is one of their most well known movies, so everyone pretty much knows that they don't get together that easily. The animatronics eere well done though, I especially REALLY like how ursula came out, but overall it's... just... Meh. a bit of a disappointment for me since I was anticipating it and I haven't been able to go on it. IMO it's just going to be one of those rides when it's really hot and you need a walking break and to get out of the heat.
Don't like the story? Look up a POV of Frozen Ever After at Epcot, now THATS a disappointing story.
kkisawesome3 I saw it... The only good thing about it is the good animatronics. That Elsa animatronic in the castle scene is very fluid, and so is the Olaf in the beginning, but this Frozen makes this ride look like a top tier classic like POtC or HM...

Siena H I totally get what you're saying.... this ride was very disappointing to me the first time I went on it and at first I couldn't tell what exactly it was but everyone else said, "no, it's cute" or "you're just being cynical" so I just dismissed myself and went on with life... it wasn't until I was disneyland side that I realized that most of the attractions, at least in fantasyland, felt more "magical" and it was because I as a guest was involved in the story. the attraction brings you into the story, making it feel like it's you going through the adventure. Jiminy cricket is telling YOU "no come this way" or the evil queen is trying to offer YOU her poison apple, and it feels real. the little mermaid ride at California Adventure just feels like a pop up book, and the only real involvement you get is from scuttle, a secondary character! and nobody wants to pay $100+/ticket for a pop up book XD. but that's just my opinion on it and I was just glad to see I'm not alone in thinking it was disappointing

I like that they have a Sebastian voice saying that the fail might be do with Ursula and not saying that its a malfunction.
Ariel is scarier than Ursula to me. I wouldn't want to be stuck with either but Ariel takes the cake. Maybe because she looks too human but not human enough at the same time.

When you stuck at Ariel with black eyes
The animatronics eyes are not black. Due to the dark lighting and the shadows, it appears black when the eyes are shut. Also, the eyes don’t fully close, they stop at a certain point and then bounce back up. Still very convincing animation!

Oh my God when Ariel broke down it was so scary and creepy I know longer like Disney. ( I had a bad dream and goofy did some messed up shiz.)

If I was on that ride and it broke down I'd pull out my cell phone and call for help unless of course I had no signal or the battery was dead.
Before your plunge under the sea, Ursula destroyed all the cell phone towers along your route. So unfortunately, there is nobody you can call! 🐚 🤣🐻❤️🐻❤️
Ariel's hair 'floating' is a little weird 😮... her bangs moving up n down's kinda creepy
I think it's because when you first get on the ride there's a part when you go "under water" so technically it's floating because you are under the sea
I absolutely love this ride and love the Ariel animatronics, especially the Part of your world one. The California Version has a lot more energy in the animation of the robotic than the one in magic kingdom ( Florida). I notice very small details in everything. I’ve always been fascinated by how they found a way to make her hair sway up and down at the ends and how they programmed the bangs. The hair is like a whole other animatronic. I love it!!

That ride must be notorious for breaking down in both parks. I went to the one in Florida for spring break one time and the ride broke down like three or four times before my group even got to any of the actual animatronics (after the seagull I don't remember his name right now)

Once about 3 years ago, me and my sister were the cause of this ride stopping. She put our bar holding us in the shell thing too tight and we were literally screaming trying to get the attention of someone to undo us, and the ride stopped while we were going backwards and down in the ride, it was terrifying. And still then, it took them a while for them to get to me and my sister to unbuckle us lol 😂

I went here at Christmas. It was fun. We went during night time. Not a lot of ppl. It was less waiting and no one was at the little mermaid ride. We had it all to ourself’s. It was awesome :3
