I love how the peach tree is a metaphor for raising a child/teaching a student. You cannot control everything about a child/student, they will be their own person, no matter how much someone may wish they were different, and they will bloom in their own time. But if you guide them, nurture them, and believe in them without forcing them to behave like something they're not, they'll become something magnificent in their own way.

“Look at this tree, Shifu. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me, nor make it bear fruit before its time.” What Master Oogway is saying here is that all things happen at the right time i.e. in this case the blossoming and bearing of fruit in the peach tree. Master Shifu retorts by saying, “I can control when the fruit will fall!” But did you notice that right after Master Shifu says this, a peach falls on his head? I also find the concept of control mentioned here to be interesting because I think that one of the things it is trying to convey is; Sometimes the more you try to control something, the less control you will have. And there is no better example of this in the same movie from which the above quote is taken from in the form of Tai Lung. The very reason for Tai Lung’s escape was Master Shifu’s fear of his escape. He sent a messenger to increase security in Tai Lung’s prison which turned into the key that ultimately freed him. This, in turn, I would say aligns with what Master Oogway teaches “One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.” These are some of the most wise teachings I have learned from the movie. I find them so inspirational because when I observe my surroundings and the world at large, I find them to be mostly true. You can do the same. Just look around you. See for yourself what is true and what is not. You will find the answer on your own.
Yes, I share your belief. In other words; Master Oogway emphasizes that everything happens at the right time, just like the blossoming and bearing of fruit in a peach tree. Master Shifu thinks he can control when the fruit will fall, but a peach falls on his head right after he says that. This illustrates that sometimes the more we try to control something, the less control we will have. The movie also provides an example of this in the character of Tai Lung. Master Shifu's fear of Tai Lung's escape led him to increase security in Tai Lung's prison, which ultimately freed him. This aligns with Master Oogway's teaching that "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it." These teachings are inspiring because they are mostly true when we observe our surroundings and the world at large. Anyone can see for themselves what is true and what is not by just looking around.
Along with this, a better deep into Shifu’s beliefs. He can control where the fruit will fall, but not where it will fall (You can end a student’s training but can’t control where they wind up such as Tai Lung’s descent). Shifu can control where to plant the seed, but not how long it will take to grow. There are many things within our control, but so many more that are out of our control
I have a dumb question when they are saying the metaphors with the peach tree what are they trying to say with shifu saying they’re something we can control?
Nice that you share your question here Michael. I believe there are no dumb questions. If anything would be dumb, it would be to stop asking questions and think we know all! :) To me what Master Shifu said, is an invitation to living in balance and harmony by practicing being honest with oneself about what you can control through choice and action, and what things we have no control over and to try surrendering to them. ❤️🙏 What could it mean for you personally?
Things aren't the way we want it to be everytime, we might want future to be like we want but it probably will not, but it doesn't means we can't adapt to it, and make it a good thing, for example, you might not have something to do, and be bored, that means you should discover new things, try new hobbies... Empty spaces can be seen as boring, or filled in to make them interesting. In the movie: In my opinion... Oogway wanted Shifu to notice that instead of rejecting Po for not being the perfect model of warrior, he could simply believe, and the rest of the puzzle would just fall perfectly into place.
They are speaking of three things in this scene, and possibly more. 1. The tree and it's seeds. 2. Po and Tai Lung. 3. Fate. Oogway begins by saying that Shifu must let go of the illusion of control. One cannot force a tree to blossom, or to bear fruit when they want. Shifu responds by becoming angry, he believes he can control his students and his fate, he can force the fruit to fall, and choose where he plants the seeds. Tellingly, when shifu tries to control his fate, it results in pain and loss, he is struck on tge head by the peach, tai lung becomes furious with him for telling him hebwas destined for greatness (something Oogway never encouraged Shifu to do) and then imprisoning him when he became dangerous. And when he tried to force Po to quit, and refused to believe in him, it made it thatvmuch harder to train him, because Po was listening and paying attention when Shifu said in every indirect way that Po would never be enough. In the second film as well, we have Shen, who tries to evade his fate by conquering others and claiming more control over his surroundings; in doing so, he creates enemies who are able to defeat him, and who are motivated by his cruelty into doing so. If Shen were able to relinquish power and stop seeking control over others, he could have _lived,_ but he refused to learn this lesson. Shifu, however, does learn; no matter what you do, you can only control so much in your life; Shifu is not wrong to believe he has some control, but Oogway is not wrong either, when he says that he has to let go of the belief that he can control all. Shifu cannot stop Tai Lung, nor can the five, but Po can, and Shifu has to learn to not burden himself or his students with attempting to control things they cannot, to instead rely on those people and things which _are_ able to solve their problems.
That's.....not entirely true, Master Oogway. Yes, the tree will always be part peach, but if it is raised around relative trees like plum trees, apricot trees, nectarine trees, etc. and the wind allows them to cross-pollinate, it will grow into something that is only part peach tree.
@@DeadhunterThe that’s still not in your total control. You can’t make animals like those do what you want at your convenience. Especially insects, including bees.
