Goddness! I was 7 years old when I started reading Naruto. Now years later I'm mum myself and I sing this to my daughter. It's her favorite lullaby.
Update: Hello everyone! Thank you for your likes and kind comments. My daughter is two years old now and she still loves this lullaby. I even recently ordered a customized music box with this song, so that she'll always have it by her side as she grows older. The best thing however is that she loves Naruto and now we both, together, watch it and other anime as well. Thank you!

(this is just the meaning and not meant to be sung this way which is why I think they opted to change the Eng. version):
Natsuhiboshi - Summerday's Star (I'd guess this refers to Venus but I don't actually know)
Naze akai - Why are you red?
Yuube kanashii yume wo mita - Last night I had a sad dream
Naite harashita akai me yo - My eyes are swollen red from crying ("harashita" is often incorrectly written down as "hanashita". Similar pronounciations but the meanings are different: "swollen" vs. "spoke/talked". In the context of the sentence "hanashita" doesn't make sense)
Natsuhiboshi - Summerday's Star
Naze mayou - Why do you wander? (this and the "why are you red" part give me the notion of Venus)
Kieta wara shi wo sagashiteru - I'm looking for my disappeared child (this was easily the hardest part to translate. "Sagashiteru" means searching and "kieta" means gone or disappeared. So "warashi" had to be the lost thing and "my child" was the only logical thing it could have been; given it is a lullaby)
Dakara kanashii yume wo miru - That is why I have sad dreams
I never found the original lyrics with kanji so I couldn't do a proper translation but this is what I got with my experience from 1 year of living in Japan, a Japanese dictionary and a Japanese-English dictionary.
As I stated before there are two weird, and often mistranslated, words there: "harashita" and "wara shi". "Harashita" is the easier of the two. Mostly it seems to be misheard from the song itself, and given the meaning of the rest of the words it relates to, it can't really be much else than "swollen" and the same meaning is present in the Eng. version of the song. "Wara shi" was hard to translate. It came back as a plethora of random things when I tried to search for "warashi". Stuff like "a reed sandal" can't really be it since this is a lullaby, it would be absolutely ridiculous. After splitting it apart as "wara" and "shi" things made sense. "shi" can be written as 子 which means "child", and it made sense. Wara came back as possibly meaning "my/our". And jackpot. It actually makes sense now.
Well these are my "two cents" on the meaning but I'd like to believe actual translators would agree with me.
The woman that sings this song in the sub and dub has a beautiful voice.
This song is filled with sadness, even though i have good memories tied to it but everytime i listen to it, it makes me wanna cry..
No matter what I think Naruto in general deserves a 10/10 for its characters without a thought. They're just so unique and beautiful.

It was really sad, but I think that the Fuuma clan arc was the saddest from the fillers. You see how Orochimaru has destroyed the lives of his own followers, manipulating Sasame, Azashi and the other young members of the Fuuma clan into thinking they can rebuild their might by helping him. In the end most of them die doing Orochimaru's work and without achieving their dreams...

My wife always loved Naruto and convinced me to watch the anime from the start. We just saw these episodes. I loved it so much, I loved the characters and their motives, the story was very well written. So I loved this music too. However, after I figured the lyrics in English it saddened me a bit, though I understand the writer(s) motives and that it is another culture than mine.
So it happened that I wrote my own lyrics (note, it is not a translation at all from the original lyrics) in my language (in Hungarian) so that I can sing it to my 5 months old daughter. :)
It goes:

I know that this whole section of Naruto was just filler, but they still put a lot of effort into it. This song was really good, and the way Sumaru’s voice actor sang it made it feel like Sumaru’s sadness was shared with the voice actor.

I still remember when my little sis listened to this lullaby for the first time, she started to cry all of a sudden. She was like 3 or 4 years old and I think, she just felt the sadness through the song.
This was a beautiful lullaby that Natsuhi used to sing to Sumaru when he was a small child. And now he remembers his mother wherever he goes, looking up to that bright red star, Natsuhiboshi.

Of all the filler arcs I've watched, not just in Naruto but other anime as well, the Star Village stuff was up there. It was really well done and one of the few filler arcs I wish was canon
Indeed, but what can you do, right? What frustrates me is that people who do reactions to Naruto always skip this particular arc (or just watch the fillers in their own time, like the clipshows). I get that it's filler. However, it's the best filler since episode 101 (which some people HAVE reacted to because it makes you love Kakashi as a character even more). On top of that, the music in this arc, especially this song, hits you right in the feels.
It's amazing how these kind of songs can deeply move anyone, just like how Naruto changes others by his words.
I used to rewatch this arc when I was probably 4-6 and I randomly decided to come back to find the song and it still makes me feel relaxed

I’m extremely surprised I remember the words so vividly. I haven’t heard this in well over ten years it feels like.
I once was really depressed because of school and growing into adulthood. Naruto and anime in general was my best support in this period, allowing me to feel things I couldn't in that world. However, even though I watched lot and lot and anime, this song stayed with me for months. I'm so happy to find it again, totally randomly.
I implore ANYBODY who decides to do a reaction/watch-along video to the Naruto franchise for the first time to NOT skip this arc in the first series (yeah, I'm referring to each Naruto anime installment as series, like the UK does with more seasons of a show)!!! Yes, it's filler and may not be canon with the main story, but it's the best filler since the season 3 premiere, plus the music in this particular arc hits you right in the feels! Just trust me on this one.

This is actually one of the few fillers that could totally be canon,and the characters brought back to the series.I'd say a good angle would be to reveal that the 'star' was actually a weapon of the Otsutsuki clan ,that was lost and fell to earth hundreds of years ago.
True Naruto supposedly destroyed it with his rasengan.But they could easily say that it would somehow be restored and fixed by an Otsutsuki clan member.The star was making anyone who used it to train dsick over time.This would make perfect sense if the star was only supposed to merge and power up someone with Otsutuki blood and chakra.Such a weapon would be too much for the human chakra system to endure.
