Thank you Ref for telling us how old they are during their fledging the barnowls are so bonded and learning from each other and caring wonderful video ref
Thank you Robert for showing us what happens with one family after they have fully fledged. I often wonder about the owlets “after”. Those of us that watch the live streams become very attached to the owls, kestrels, swans and stoats!💜
@@kss987 Me too, I have tears in my eyes after watching this...Robert's narrative is so brilliantly expressed, the whole scenario is very moving ...feeling very privileged to have this insight into the intimate lives of these gorgeous creatures.( from " down under " in New Zealand. )
@LoneSeaEagleOfSkye Me too! It's the music, Robert's beautiful, calming voice and the capturing of the intimate, private moments of these beautiful birds that we would never get to see without Robert's hard work! Robert's love for animals makes my heart soar! 😊
This is a beautiful and exciting video about Gylfie, my big owl love, Dryer and their 3 children. Robert, you are the best storyteller I know. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Wow. This was just a dream to watch! My heart is bursting!! Barn owls so far are my favourite owl. I'm so glad you finally got this on camera!! What a dream for you!! I thank you for sharing with all my heart!!! ❤
I really appreciate your videos, Robert. I've come to gain a new respect for owls. 🦉 🦉 🦉 It's fascinating to hear about their lives and how they grow up. Thank you. Texas Nana Psalm 91
😅❤❤❤OMG!!! What amazing information, Robert!! This was so interesting. Throwing their chicks out because they 14:08 're past due!!! This was life-teaching!!!😮😅😅😊
Always enjoy watching the birds from egg to fledging but this was particularly nice seeing what happens after fledging. Thank you, and as always, you and your team do a lovely job. ❤️
This video is really beautiful. It's so nice to see what they do after fledgling, I've always wondered about that. Thank you Robert I enjoyed it so much. ❤
Thank you for taking us on this incredible journey. These wonderful animals will make their own life and maybe they come back and share their story as their parents did
Great video. It is worth remembering that the fatality rate among young barn owls is very high (about 70% die within the first year of life) and competition for food and living space is enormous. Which is why parents take great care of them when they are young, but are keen to see them leave when they are old enough to look after themselves.
I love all your videos but the barn owls are spectacular. Gylfie has star quality. I feel so fortunate to have found your channel, especially after watching videos like this one. So unique! I have never seen anything covering what barn owls get into after their fledging. Thank you so much.
With your experience and care, I actually did not know that you weren't an ornithologist! You are such an incredible person, Mr. Fuller. I'm a graduate of biology and conservation ecology, as well as an artist myself, and could only hope to dream seeing what you do. My hat's off to you and your wonderful channel.
75% of all Barn Owls chicks sadly die in their first year. I’ve allays wondered when they die after they fledged. Is it in the first weeks of dispersal due to lack of hunting skills or is it in the winter or is it a gradually process?
When I first saw the title, I mistook it for Barred Owls. There’s a pair at a friend’s home (🇺🇸) and the first time I heard them screech I thought they were coyotes…quite a racket in the late evening …thanks for the lovely story☺️
Merci. C'est très intéressant à voir et à écouter, mais c'est dommage que la musique soit trop présente et distraie quelque peu du propos. Vers 8:22, on peut voir un grimpereau (a creeper can be seen).
We do keep a record of parentage - we ring as many of the chicks as we can and those details are kept on the BTO national data base so we have all that information recorded.
Can't wait until storm returns to start her own family or if she even does by the is gylfle about 7 years old since she's had 3 different mates barney fin n dryer
Hi Robert, does it mean owls learn to hunt by instinct since the fledglings didn't seem to observe how their parents hunt. Also, does it mean that a rescue owl hand-raised by a human can survive on its own without food attachment to a human?
Mainly instinct for hunting but they will see there parents hunting over the grassy valleys Barn owls are not easy to release if hand reared by humans But other Owls are easier like Tawny Owls as they eat a wide range of prey
Hello sir, I have a barn owl family living in a palm tree in front of my apartment. A baby has fallen out of the nest and after watching some of your videos I believe it is between 3-4 weeks old. It’s mother hasn’t picked it up for 2 days now, and it just sits by the tree looking very weak. I put it in a card board box tonight because I seen 2 big dogs around the area. What should I do? Fish and wildlife is closed until Monday morning but I don’t know if they’d pick it up because I am about an hour and a half away.
I love your films apart from one irritation, the unnecessary music. I'd much prefer to hear the natural sounds and your comments with muzak in the background. I've learnt a lot about barn owls, thank you.

Barn owls are so beautiful and distinctive. It's no wonder that the writer and illustrator Edward Lear loved drawing them.

As a big fan of Guardians of Ga'Hoole, I am enchanted by these real-life owls.
God bless your good works Robert
It would be so great to have a live stream of the chicks after they have dispersed (yes, I know it is impossible)
Beautiful thanks for sharing that what I can't see where I live in London 👍💕
Thank you Robert😊❤

Predation would play a huge part.

Thunder fledgling looked so much like Freya (Finn and Gylfie's chick) when it first attempted to land on the nest box. Lol
Do they sleep standing on one leg? I did not know that.
Yes, it's to conserve heat

so what happened to the other chicks in the nest after one of their siblings was stolen from the nest?

Can you take it to a vets or do you have a local wildlife rehab who can help you?
When another owl takes a chick do they raise them or feed them to their young?
I assumed it was either for food or to eliminate competition.
Hard to believe that one fledgling hopped right into the nest and stolen that chick right in front of its mom...
