I remember reading the comments on another video (a Sepultura song, I think) and metal stans began going on about "THE BASS IS ONLY TO ANCHOR THE SONG, NO MORE NO LESS," and one guy cracked wise about how "God forbid fretless bass should ever be played in metal." Forest would make their heads asplode. This is how metal stays fresh and exciting, by bringing in new ideas and concepts from everywhere. The stans can keep listening to the same old same old while I will seek new sounds and see if I like them or not.
Except fretless bass isn't new in metal music at all, just not utilized as much.
@@Crodon I agree, let's not forget Steve DiGiorgio who played fretless bass on a number of Death albums
Metalheads who don't like this (or at least appreciate it) are stuck in the past. I love Sabbath, Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, et. al., but I also really like Berried Alive and Igorrr; and this dude _tears it up._
@@radubadea9592 Precisely, Di Giorgio was murdering the fretless bass in metal decades ago
trying to process all these notes! Amazing!
Absolutely stunning song. As someone who is listening to tech death 20 years already, this song is a stellar example of amazing balance between tech elements and musicianship. I know a lot of people praising In'el but this song is even more impressive on so many levels.
First Fragment is like a band with 24 brains
Insane. He plays bass like a flamenco player. And so clean. 😂 🫶
Such technique. Elements of jazz and what seems to be classical guitar playing. I didn’t think tech death metal bass players were this good. I’m blown away!!!
It’s called tech death for a reason
He's easily in the top 3 best bassists in Metal.
Oh we have such sights to show you
Top 1.
@@vommir. who would you put in your top 3 bassists?
For me, I'd say Jared Smith from Archspire, Brendan Brown (ex-Ne Obliviscaris but their current bassist Martino Garattoni is also pretty fuckin good from what I've heard so far) and Forest!
The best Tech/Prog Death Metal bass player of all time. Everything he touches become gold. It happened with early Beyond Creation & Augury albums and now with First Fragment incredible sophomore album.
Terrific.
It's done, Dominic is the absolute best bass metal player in history period, some may say Steve Digiorgio, Cliff Burton, Jeroen Paul Thesseling, etc And I know music is not a competition but man Dom is above any other. I just hope someday meet him and thank him for inspiring me and so many other musicians. Go Forest go!
HIM AND EVAN BREWER BUT YES UNREAL!
Sean Malone
He is amazing. Killian Duarte is another
Dang, you mentioned Jeroen Paul Thesseling. He was in Pestilence. ( Check out Fami from LOVEBITES! )
Hugo who took is place in Beyond Creation is pretty damn amazing….awesome guy too
One of the best to ever do it on bass. Period. Flawless technique, endless flavour, creativity beyond imagination, forever inspirational. Can't express enough how good Forest is!
Creativity Beyond imagination? Nay, I call it... "Beyond Creativity"
Unmatched skill. Underrated band.
Forest my dude, this shit is insane!! I will always sit in awe as I watch you play, if I ever get the chance to see you live, I'm bringing a chair so I can sit my ass down and pay full attention to a master at work.
Seriously. I'd rather sit down for an hour and watch him play than be in a mosh pit any day.
相変わらず気持ちがイイ音~。
独特のピッキングフォームだから唯一無二のプレイ。
Astonishing playing
❤
This is some of the best bass I've ever heard in my life, period.
Big props to bands like Death, Cynic, Gorguts etc for paving the way, but this is so next level my great-grandchildren still won’t be able to comprehend how this happened 🤘
This guy is sooooo talented as are the guitarists in First Fragment (gotta love the flamenco in some songs!). Kudo's to you dominic!
I've seen many bassist, but none of them are as perfectionists and virtuous as this guy. This level of composition is out of reach for the majority of us.
Witness evolution of human species at its finest
jus met him and talked in portland! pretty much told him this!
I'm not sure if I should feel inspired to become better, or simply quit playing, because this was spotless. The intonation, timing, fingering, slapping, tapping, everything is just perfectly executed, and yet with so much feeling.
The most insane bassist I've ever seen. Thanks for the reminder.
Awesome spot light on Forest!
God is love, hugs and love sent from cali, praying for all!
I know the execution of this song is beyond amazing. But what I find even more interesting is the idea on how you are able to compose something like that, my god. Inspirational is a small word for this.
Absolutely amazing song and video. THICC bass sound.
Also, worth to note, cameraman isn't shaking in seizures and perspective doesn't change 3 times per second, which is always good.
I've been playing bass 31 years, mostly metal, and you still never fail to blow my mind. Fucking amazing!
Spotify smart shuffle introduced me to this band and instantly I was captivated by that BASS! had to see more! Shout-out to smart shuffle!
I don't understand anything you're doing , but you're doing it very good !
Incredible as always. This guy isn't my favorite bass player (Mike Watt), but he's who tech-death players wish they were. Or at least other tech players ASPIRE to reach this level. Always a pleasure, Forest. Thanks!
Wow.. absolutely mind blowing!.
it is fantastic to see the band again.
The precision is unmatched! Amazing stuff Dom.
one of the greatest bass player in tech
Loved his work in Augury and he's still killing it.
Absolutely face-melting! Cheers!
(I could probably do that if I had five fingers.)
Had no idea First Fragment got Forest! I remember being amazed by his playing years ago when Beyond Creation's 'Omnipresent Perception' came out. Him and Alex Webster are easily the best metal bassists
He joined 7 years ago
il ne me reste pas assez d'années de vie pour atteindre ce niveau technique et de recherche mélodique
Bonkers....I as a bass player, will now have to go back to Ole Smokey....thanks Forest 🥸
Great work as usual! Go Forest.
that was absolutely stellar to watch. wow
Truly inspirational playing.
la classe internationale!
Bravo Dominic !!!
Watching this again and again... amazing!
Well... That was something you can't even comment on... Well done! Great technique!
I'm always completely blown away by these playthrough videos! Just beautiful playing. Haven't spun the LP in awhile! Definitely overdue for a listen!
Malade comme toujours Forrest!!!! Continue ton travail excellent!!!
This is absolutely amazing.
got you with youtube recommendations, this is great !!
While Charles Berthoud is my absolut Favorit Pro Bassist here on YT, i would like to know, if He could Do this too.. The pure speed of the incredible Figerstile is a kind of its own. The whole compexity of the multiple Technics of cause is phenominal.
Its totally magic to see how he is using his instrument not only to support the rhythmics but also to layer on harmonics, while filling the soundscape and having a total decent sound. Damn good invested 5 minutes :)
Are there any plans to release a tab book for this album? I'm considering building a fretless 6 and would love to be able to learn some without having to transcribe it by ear
Gran composición....el bajo sabe!
I like all the notes he played.
Spectacular as always.
Literally every note this man plays is gold.
I like how in almost every video (or actually every video?) of Forest doing a playthrough he plays with a long sleeve shirt of some sort. A fellow long sleeve enjoyer :D
Also that beard is coming in nicely! I wonder how long he's going to grow it haha :D
Impressive as always. I wouldn’t expect anything less from you.
FOREST IS A MANIAC ARE U KIDDING ME
Enchanting Forest 🌳
I had the pleasure of playing a show with Beyond Creation when he was in the band and my god it was mind boggling watching him play this live and a super nice guy as well.
Fortiche! Et enfin un qui a compris qu'une gratte ou basse ça se positionne entre les jambes!
Could listen to this for hours, absolute master at his craft!
Wow its amazing
brilliant, as always, and i havent even seen the video yet
Tu repousse encore les limites mon ami ! 🤘 c'est mental.
Amazing! i would love to see this man play one day; Forest, you are a huge inspiration! That B string hit hard my ears bro!!
Glorieux.
Amazing
This is amazing! This is insane!
Wouuhaa chaud patate!! Et jouer ça à chaque concert?! Quelle performance, respect!
Beautiful and brutal.
Trop malade ta vraiment beaucoup d’influence musical c’est beau a voir et a entendre
The master of intonation and technique 🤘
Absolute monster, fantastic stuff
so precise! insane! absolute god
beaucoup d'heures de pratique ! tjs aussi solide
Fretless bass does go very well with metal such as this!
I really wana say thanks for so much influence forest 🔥🔥🔥
MAGNIFICENT!
this man is pretty much a bass virtuoso
The absolute grandmaster of bass. We need tab books!
Criss de machine !!
What a wild ride
This is my new favorite band by a landslide.
Still fucken Brutal still a joy to watch
i can watch you playing for hours! Amazing work!
Forest is the man!!!! 🤍
Miss ya buddy! Matt from Woe of Tyrants here 🤙
Seriously good player. 💯
Great,Forest rulzzzz,Hail from 🇱🇻Latvia
Meilleur bassiste du monde je veux rien savoir
Incredible. Please make a video where you explain you plucking hand technique that would be so awesome.
1:24 maaaan that harmonic is insane !
bass sounds amazing
The most groovy intro in gloire éternelle
Why dom is num 1 ? CREATIVITY
Your music is nothing but phenominal. Keep it up guys \m/
1:22 the harmonic slide 😛
HOW DO PEOPLE DO THAT!? No matter what I do I can never get it that clean
@@cosmicpanda7043 I'm guessing you are a fretless? If not, the frets will mute the harmonic when you do the slide. Keeping the fretting finger straight/perpendicular to the string also helps. You could also try to remember the exact locations of the harmonic depending on the fret number, but that is a bunch of work
@@nachfullbarertrank5230 Is it a fretless only technique then? I swear I've seen Wooten do it on his fretted Fodera, but if that is the case then I'll have to move a fretless bass higher up on my shopping list
i just found out about this band and they are so good
No words 🙏
A projeto de Phil Tougas com esse cara é top demais.
The only one!
Grande Forest!
awesome
LEGEND!!🔥🔥🔥
Wild stuff.
