I have been painting with your tutorials for almost a year, and this is my favorite project! I wasn't impressed with mine and was tempted to give up. But adding the highlights and feather details turned this from "meh" into WOW! Now I love it so much, I want to frame it. Thanks for the great tutorial. I've loved September's introduction to gouache and would be thrilled to see more gouache tutorials in the future ;) Keep up the great work!
The Kingfisher is native to my part of UK. It is quite small....smaller than your hand by far. It sits for hours and flies just above the waterline........I sat with a Kingfisher for aprox 1 hour so close it was surreal.......you can imagine the photos I have. I have an intimate knowledge of those birds. They are hard to get photos so I am lucky.....I have painted him from my refs numerous times x
Hi Sara & Keenan here in the UK there is only one native to Britain and loves to live near slow flowing fresh water canals or lakes but there are more than 80 species in the world love them this class is spool fab Sara 🤗
My husband and 8 year old, Amos, saw one of these yesterday so it seemed like the perfect project for today. Also, I don't think I have the right kind of gouache because mine don't come back with water. They mostly just turn stringy. Project still turned our great regardless.
beautiful i love lets make art i painted along with you but i didnt have a drawing so mine needs to be done again i love roses and birds in paint so much thank you
The Kingfisher turned out beautifully. I have a general gouache question. I don't have any so I'm unable to experiment. Does gouache react to salt like watercolor and does it it bloom with water like watercolor?
Hello , this is Brenda always thanks for great art sharing! If I want to teach my students in school about this painting , can i use the outline in the website u provide? is there any right preserve problem ? Thanks !
Hi Brenda! Our outlines are free on the website. You can use them in conjunction with the video tutorial for your students to follow along if you would like.
Sarah advises: Black, Tahoe or Azure Blue, Dandelion Yellow, Magenta or Red (to mix and get orange) and Bleed Proof White if you wanted to use it for the highlights.
I really wish he would either be on camera painting with her or not speak as much as she does. A lot of it feels like a lot of unnecessary commentary. I really love the content of this channel but it’s distracting.
I feel your Kingfisher is smiling Sarah so beautiful
We're absolutely thrilled you enjoyed this tutorial. Thank you for watching! Happy painting!

That is a really good question! We will have to experiment and get back to you.
