Kobe's footwork was more complex than Mike's. Mike's footwork was as basic as it gets. Both were equally effective. But I think Mike's combined strength and basic footwork in the post is more superior than Kobe's.
And you can even link it to their games: Mike appears to post more than Kobe as you put it, so he developed to be more proficient. Kobe was a better shooter and we see how he implements that with his complex footwork to get that shot from anywhere and on basically anyone. "Form follows function" holds especially true here.
