Yes poor play against good teams can make it misleading, but the Mavs have had great games against great teams barely losing a few, and inflicting damage on the Off/Def ratings of those teams as well as taking some. If the Mavs are top 5 Off/Def all year they will be near the top of the league. That is meaningful.

I have a theory that making the Finals woke up a lot of 50 year old Dallas oldheads that haven’t watched basketball since Dirk’s ring and were not here for the ups and downs of the Luka era so far and that’s why you’re seeing all these weird takes about how he’s a bad player that doesn’t add anything to the team or is soft and needs to be traded because they haven’t ever seriously sat down and watched him outside of this bad one month stretch where he’s been dealing with nagging injuries and adjusting to a slightly different role in the offense.
We traded offense for defense, and while the defensive stats against good teams are much worse, 3 of the losses were by 1 possession without Lively and PJ to these good teams. Early season new players and strange rotations made for poorer defensive performances (and Luka not 100% physically yet) so they should be able to ratchet it up where it’s harder to point out.
If Naji and PJ can start shooting league average 35% from 3. You move Klay to the bench. Defense will be good against good teams. Starting Luka/Kai/Naji/PJ/Lively (5 guys who can make plays) First Rotation Luka/Grimes/Klay/Maxi/Gafford (Luka-spacing-Strong Roll/Finish Big)
PJ, Naji, Hardy, Dinwiddie shooting under 20% from deep this season. It´s not their fault. Blame Luka for that also like everything else. Why is he passing them ball if they can´t shoot?

Bench had nothing to do with it. 1. He needs to play next to Grimes to defend P&R. They are now doing this. 2. He's using verticality instead of trying to block shots and that made the problems less apparent. Still he's struggling with his increased weight.

No player on the Mavs has a Go To Move for the end of games or when the team needs baskets. their Defense this season is a 4-1 shell. (which is crap and no center in NBA history could make work on defense, even David Robinson or Hakeem would fail with a 4-1 Shell) 1 guy there for the rebound vs 3 opponents that are crashing the boards. Cause doncic and Irving are their best rebounders but they sure as hell don't get back in there to rise up and grab the rebounds. They only get the rebounds that bounce right to them. As a team they only get the rebounds the fall right to them. That tells me they're not good at basketball. They rely 100% only on lucky 3's to barely win or barely lose which is a 30% so any game that is somewhat close they WILL Lose sure as hell 666% of their games cause they're 34% on threes.
As someone with a bachelors in MIS and minors in business administration and computer science, I would suggest you only pick the games against winning/elite teams and grab the stats from there. Why? Because we don’t care about what the Mavs are doing against subpar talent. We care about what they’re doing against elite competition because we consider/considered them as being elite.

I just think he’s earned longer than one month of goodwill before being written off as useless, washed, soft, or someone that needs to be traded. Can yall at least give it closer to a full season!

He’s gotten better since he came off the bench.
Bench had nothing to do with it. 1. He needs to play next to Grimes to defend P&R. They are now doing this. 2. He's using verticality instead of trying to block shots and that made the problems less apparent. Still he's struggling with his increased weight.

@@penalosarusselgian3298 His rebounding last season was 1 per 2 minutes. This season its 1 per 3.5 minutes. Horrible drop off. His blocks went form 1 every 10 minutes to 1 every 20 minutes. He's half the player he was last season. It happens. He's not as strong, athletic or aggressive this season. That's not debatable. The STATS PROVE IT.
The Worst stat though on the team I see is Doncic 7 missed threes per game. That is like 7 turnovers right there basically. Cause it's not a good shot. It's a turnover. Even worse than that stat is his 7 assists per game when of all the "natural talent or skills on the team" Is Doncic's Passing. yet only 7 assists.
A Point guard that misses a 100 Threes per game every game and only averages 7 assists. That Equals Losses in Any League or Era of Basketball. He's throwing his career away trying to be Jordan. He's not Jordan. He's a Passer and needs to play as a Passer and aim to be like Jason Kidd and average 11 assists per game.
@@penalosarusselgian3298 When he was trying to block like he did last season he was commiting fouls and taking himself out of the play. No second effort on either contest or rebound. Since GSW game he's using verticality so he can stay in play. Still his body didn't respond well to 20lb bulk and he can't move well enough. Every explosive action looks like huge struggle for him. The good news is that it can only get better with time.
No player on the Mavs has a Go To Move for the end of games or when the team needs baskets.
their Defense this season is a 4-1 shell. (which is crap and no center in NBA history could make work on defense, even David Robinson or Hakeem would fail with a 4-1 Shell) 1 guy there for the rebound vs 3 opponents that are crashing the boards. Cause doncic and Irving are their best rebounders but they sure as hell don't get back in there to rise up and grab the rebounds. They only get the rebounds that bounce right to them. As a team they only get the rebounds the fall right to them. That tells me they're not good at basketball. They rely 100% only on lucky 3's to barely win or barely lose which is a 30% so any game that is somewhat close they WILL Lose sure as hell 666% of their games cause they're 34% on threes.
As someone with a bachelors in MIS and minors in business administration and computer science, I would suggest you only pick the games against winning/elite teams and grab the stats from there.
Why? Because we don’t care about what the Mavs are doing against subpar talent. We care about what they’re doing against elite competition because we consider/considered them as being elite.
