oh wow i’m early Edit: I would like to say as a 20 year old though,, i’ve never felt more safe and motivated to make my mistakes and really throw myself at homesteading and just slow farming. I’ve been watching you guys over this whole year and i adore your videos so much ❤ I would actually love to see a sourdough video as i have so much i need to use but can’t ever find a good recipe or “how to bake with it” video
Hi there… thank you for all your video’s and sharing your life with us. We’ve been on an acreage for 38 years, raised our kids here but moving to the country back then was more about getting out of the madness of the city to the quiet country side than homesteading. BUT… life is different these days and we are looking at doing more with what we have as we enter the Winter Season of life. You are teaching some of us older ones how to do things better. Thank you for that❤ I would also like to know more about your sourdough starter, You always seem to have an abundance of starter in that 8cup PC measuring cup, so if you can share how often you feed it, how much etc. I’ve noticed that you keep it refrigerated as well. Blessings on your family as you share your lives with us.
Yup, involving the children is a vital part of their education too. The measuring, the mixing up and turning a bunch of ingredients into a finished product is maths, chemistry, magic, therapy, life skills etc. Thanks for sharing!
I remember when you had 30k subs. Love to see you get recognized for the great channel and loving family unit. 💖 You are definitely right in teaching your kids. I´m 34 and my parents never taught me. I had to learn the last 16 years and I´m not the best cook. I´m average. I just like to wing it. But still, I try to include and teach my kids (5 and 3) and to be intentional about these things. Hearing you say you want to do that too gives me strength to continue with that path.
The one mistake I made with my children was not teaching them to cook. When my daughter left for college, she lived on Ramin noodles. Now that she is in her 40s, she doesn't cook much at all. I feel that I failed her when it came to homemaking skills. Growing up, I was always in the kitchen watching my mom and learning everything I could. My mom was a seamstress, and that's a skill I picked up from her as well. Today, in my 60s, I have my own little sewing business that supplements my retirement income. You're both amazing parents who are teaching your children the necessities for life.
I dont think you have failed her, if she was called to it she would have sought it out. My mother never cooked from scratch, never sewed, never gardened, so never taught me those things, nor did she have any interest in doing any of those things, yet when I reached adulthood i was drawn to them all and found ways to learn them on my own. Now in my mid 30s i do quite well with them, but only because i wanted to. Her disinterest is not a failure on your behalf, its just simply not where her heart lies ❤️
What a surprise! I went to the Home section of the Epoch times and I thought the beautiful woman on the cover story looked familiar! So awesome they featured your story. I just recently started following you all. I did not know the back story until I read the article. I appreciate how you keep it real, so inspiring! Looking forward to more of your videos.
I wish I was your neighbor. Even in my 60's, I learn SO MUCH from you and am continuously inspired. I've been putting off trying sourdough for years, and a bigger chicken coop for the past couple winters. Time to get crackin'. Thanks for the elderberry syrup tip. I'm planting new plants from seed this coming spring.
A very nice video, thank you very much for that. There's a lot going on with you, I'm very happy for you that you now have time to implement all your ideas. As Michelle said, you can't start early enough to teach children the skills we take for granted. It's nice to see your daughter enjoying baking and I'm sure she's proud of the result. I finally have the garden ready for the winter and am looking forward to a somewhat quieter time to plan for the spring. I'm retiring next year and will have a lot more time for my garden and to implement a lot of what I was able to learn from you. Thank you, God bless you all!
I just recently started watching your videos about a week ago and I'm so happy I found you all! Thank you for having such transparency about what goes on and being comfortable with the mistakes that happen. Best channel I have found by far!
I make beeswax candles every year. I highly recommend buying a dedicated hot plate and double boiler pot setup that you don’t ever use for anything else. Lay down some parchment paper or newspaper under your entire setup. This will prevent the dreaded cleanup. Also, be careful what you set your jars on when you’re burning the candles. The jars get extremely hot. I once set one on a plastic card table during the holidays and it melted right through!!
My mom tried to teach me how to cook when I was young as a homeschooling subject (or however you wanna label it 😆) but due to my sensory processing disorder it was very hard. Even now I have to have my hubby do the meatloaf 😆, but I do let my kiddos cook with me when they want too ❤ and even though sometimes they stress me out during, I still love the help 😊
We found that beeswax does not work in a container as the wick that you need to use needs to be very hot and can crack the container. Beeswax burns at a high temperature. My daughter got a really good recipe that she uses for candle containers, 50% soya wax, 30% coconut oil and 20% beeswax. It works awesome really good in containers. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your content, we've been watching you guys for awhile but especially now you're helping our family feel so much more empowered and we are incredibly grateful.💟❤️🩹
Hello, you two great People! I really appreciate you and your RUclips channel. I live in Munich, Germany. This video can only be seen with a translation of your voices. But since I really appreciate your language, your accent and your voices, a lot was lost in the digital translation. I hope that I just made a mistake in the RUclips settings. Keep up the good work and best wishes from Munich!
Definitely get some elderly planted! I'm in columbus ohio and a friend gave me two off shoots from her elderberry last Spring. Harvested some elderberries last year and more this year! Made elderberry syrup last year. Still need to make some with this years harvest. :)
Even if we didn't change our clocks, this would be the time that we would live on. I lived on a dairy farm growing up. We always milked cows in the dark in the wintertime. We are spoiled with night-light during the summers now.
This is such a fun video; loved seeing you teaching your daughter. I wish I knew some of the things you are teaching her! I am just now learning in my 60's!!
Loved everything! I'm very interested in Cody's studio and chicken coop. I hope we can see more progress in the next video. Michelle's kitchen seemed so warm and fragrant.
Love all these vids, I would have actually even watched a vid of how you did the shiplap on your office ceiling. its all enjoyable - mostly cause you guys are enjoyable.
I really love your videos! I love how you talk about things your mom taught you so much and your children will be able to say "this is how my mom always did it". The kid's tree house is so cool! I've never noticed it before. What will you use to keep critters from digging under the coop?
Thank-you for sharing your candle making part. Beeswax candles are the best. I Buy them at our farmers market in the tea lite version. Amazing but pricey. Love them... and your videos..
I loved the video today. I am going to try my hand at making Mead next year, Codi. You were the inspiration. Also, Michelle, could you give us the graham cracker recipe or tell us where you got it? I would love to start making mine as well; they looked awesome. I have been noticing that you Kiddos work as hard as you guys do. Looking forward to the next video.
When it comes to yeast, what you have is what you use. Back before we understood what yeast was, it was literally the yeast living in your wooden spoon. No matter what yeast you use, it will impart some unique flavors. If you are only using honey and water with just barely enough additives to keep the yeast alive, then some (but not all) people will notice the difference. With that much black tea, you'd need a really trained super taster to notice. Way back 20 years ago, using champagne yeast was also contentious. Back then everyone said a fruit wine yeast was best (I haven't been keeping up with modern trends though). I bring this up because of another person's comment, but also champagne yeast was always my favorite.
Michelle thank you for sharing these recipes, I who love sourdough gluten-free because I have to eat mostly gluten-free stuff. I deal with health issues like rheumatoid arthritis uveitis of the eyes, so changeing my whole diet and what I can eat has really helped with my daily living. I lost my old dairy doe, her name was Adessa she lived a long time she was 14 and 4 months. I bought her has a yearling who was in milk a long time ago. I know it was her time coming but it still was hard to deal with it. We have meat rabbits due next week. 20+ rabbits to get butcher this week. I Thank you for sharing your life and look forward to next week's video, I would watch you everyday if you made videos. Till next time God Bless.
All the recipes I have looked up for beeswax candles calls for an addition of fat like coconut oil so you’re on the right track. Melissa Kay Norris has a recipe in one of her books for making these candles.
I had a nice gluten free sourdough starter in the refrigerator. I have CFS and let my husband throw it out. Now I wish I would have kept it!..........Nancy
Love what your doing SO MUCH!!! 🫶 Wish I could post a picture comment tho. My sweet friend found these beautiful very delicate thin bowls made from beeswax and they put dried flowers around it. It smells like heaven of course. Put a battery operated tea light candle in it and it glows and flickers and is just so pretty. Just passing along a cool idea. Not to mention how lovely it smells in the room it sits in. Anywho Cheers! Can’t wait to see the finished office and new coop!
Hi! It's Misty. I am the oldest of 5. My mother was single most of my life growing up. She worked 12hr swing shifts for most of that time. She was gone before I woke and didn't get home till after bed. I wasn't taught a lot. We could do the basic stuff, food from a box or can and etc. we basically ate junk my entire childhood, survival food. I've had weight trouble my entire life because of it. I didn't know better as far as diet till years later. I didn't learn much about adulting except on my own. Budget. Finance. All that I had to learn on my own. Home making. Nurturing children. My oldest child is now 24 and my youngest 15, 2 boys. Not having been taught so much about being an adult made things so much harder. Still is. Even as simple as taking care of my body. The biggest thing I wish I had been taught is how important exercise is. Everything else comes easier if your body is well prepared. Including mental health. I've endured so much more trauma than I would have if I had been better prepared to be an adult. I was forced to leave home @16. It all made me who I am, made me a stronger person but I still wonder what it would be like if that had been different. Providing for family financially is actually not as important as other things. God has given me the blessing of being in my children's lives more than I had experienced as a child. I can't say I've been perfect BY FAR! I'm still thankful though. I was a single mom for a lot of my boys lives as well. Yet he showed me how to do it and be more present. Thankful for God's grace. Thank you for your videos
P.s. your mixer should not sound like that. It may need to be greased on the inside. Tell your hubby to research it. It's pretty easy to do. It sounds like metal on metal while you were mixing bread.
OK. Just got home from work, and am watching this video. About the candles, I'm not sure if you have any dogwood trees there, but, have you ever tried mixing fresh, ground dogwood bark, and or, dogwood into your candles? The smell is awesome. Or, if you can purchase some fresh dogwood in a liquid, that might work.
Ooo elderberry! I'm going to definitely try a cinnamon candle now. I love sentimental passed down traditions. It's what makes life so precious. Do you guys know any good herbs for seasonal depression? Fellow Ohioan.
Education is about to get a big boost in allowing parents to decide how they want their children to learn. The current climate takes away many rights for parents to decide how they want their children to be taught. I have seen homeschooled children do extremely well in society. Their teachers are mostly their parents. Most of their parents do not have college degrees. Yet, it is these children who excel. Now that your children are in school, it would be a good time to dwell a bit more into the workings of homeschooling and how children of different ages learn...etc. Some people are probably interested in how you teach and/or what you teach due to the perception of what it takes to be a teacher. What I have seen on your videos is that your children are learning something everyday, every hour and every minute. They are learning how to handle life's ups and downs. My reasons for making this suggestion to you...Cody and Michelle, is that you are a young married couple with young children and you have decided to live your life the way you want to live. There are other young married couples out there who are trying to navigate the type of life you have. Mentor. 😉
Hi! I’m looking for the pans you use for baking your bread loaves in! I’m due to replace mine, and love the ones you’re using. Might be a silly question, but Do you know where I can find some? They look indestructible! Thank you!
I’ve binged your content recently and was super excited about the new video released. But for some reason, RUclips dubs it automatically in languages I don’t speak. It’s called Autotrack and I can’t turn it off. I’m Dutch and am proficient in Dutch and English, not in Italian, Japanese or whatever my options are… so if it’s something you changed in the settings, now you know the result for abroad viewers. And if you changed nothing, I hope RUclips reverses this “update” soon… 😢
Ive been really wanting to try making home made chemical free beeswax candles too. I love candles but don't love the toxins/fake fragrances in the air. What type of wick have you been using?
Did you guys make it starter or bye it ?? I got one as a gift but it’s not very sourdoughy tasting :( do yall have tips on how to make the flavor stronger
Can I come just stay with u for like 1 month so I’ll get healthy?😂❤ I’m just kidding that’s weird u don’t know me.however I do feel that how and where u live would be amazing for any of us. You guys work so hard and I need that work ethic in me
Another informative and enjoyable video, however, there seemed to be a lot of ads in that 22 min section more than normal which spoils the flow of your video's
Idk what's going on, but when I try to watch this on my PS5 I don't get English, I get auto directed to Spanish audio and I don't speak it. There doesn't seem tribe a fix. Works fine on my phone.
I love your videos! But please wash your dog’s food and water bowls. The water bowl builds up a bacteria that is bad for your pup. Plus, would you eat from a dirty dish every day?
This video is playing in English on my phone but an array of foreign languages on my TV and I can’t change it to English. Anyone else experiencing this?
Why I have got your video in french ? I want it in english. I do not understand why everything is in french. Do you know why ? And if yes how can I get in english again ?😉 I found it !! Better in english, I want to progress me !!
@@morethanfarmers It is weird because when I click on the video it is in french and the title as well is in french so to get in English I have click on settings and after on audio track. I select english and it works. But I hope for your next video I will have everything in english straightly. I understand in French because I am French but I want to progress in Englsih so I want it only in this language. Guys your videos are great !!😉 I work for a little organic seeds company in France near Angers we are in a farm. We sell seeds, plants, trees...
There have been a few comments about audio in different languages.. I believe it has to do with a setting on your tv.. people said it worked fine on their phones. I can’t find anything on my end that I can do.
😂 Yesssss.... We were told she was a boy when we got her, and by the time we noticed she wasn't, the name had already stuck 😁 Slightly embarrassing and also humorous 😏
Ironic you say that about time change, because farming and cattle is exactly what it was invented for. 😂 Kids don't factor in, but the other things do.
That is strange.. There have been a few people that said that, and I haven't found a solution. I think it's a setting you can choose, but I will keep trying to figure out if there's something I can do.

@@morethanfarmers I tried all settings on YT & TV. It is only on YT paid subscription on my ROKU TV. My Apple TV & phone/iPad are fine. I just cast from phone to TV. Great Video!!!
@@morethanfarmers YT said it was because the video used the “Auto Dubbed” feature. I have no clue…that was just their reply to my trouble ticket. Hope this helps in some way!
Pour beeswax when it's 110° F and the key to prevent tunneling is age your candle before you burn it.
After you make them, set aside in semi dark place with good airflow, sunlight will bleach beeswax candles
Use a quality braided cotton wicks. They don't burn too hot.
Thanks for the tips!

We have a fall harvest tradition of making graham crackers, homemade marshmallows and sometimes chocolate, for s’mores.
Yum!😋
Ooo elderberry! I'm going to definitely try a cinnamon candle now. I love sentimental passed down traditions. It's what makes life so precious. Do you guys know any good herbs for seasonal depression? Fellow Ohioan.
Here in the UK elderberry bushes/trees are a pain almost a weed.
Mentor. 😉
Lovely video, much appreciated!
Thank you!😊
Good afternoon from Ireland
Hey Ireland! Good morning from Virginia, US.👋

Night from India 🇮🇳
Thanks for the. video!
Great video ❤️❤️❤️
And if you changed nothing, I hope RUclips reverses this “update” soon… 😢
could you please set the music volume lower. i cant make out what people say as well when there is music in the background.. love your videos
Ive been really wanting to try making home made chemical free beeswax candles too. I love candles but don't love the toxins/fake fragrances in the air. What type of wick have you been using?
Greetings from Dominica!
Did you guys make it starter or bye it ?? I got one as a gift but it’s not very sourdoughy tasting :( do yall have tips on how to make the flavor stronger
If it's new and you just woke it up from dormancy, it will take on more sourdough flavor as it ages. More fermentation=more sour flavor 😊
@ Tysm 💗
Thanks!
Can I come just stay with u for like 1 month so I’ll get healthy?😂❤ I’m just kidding that’s weird u don’t know me.however I do feel that how and where u live would be amazing for any of us. You guys work so hard and I need that work ethic in me
Do you mind linking where you bought the slide for your kids please?
Another informative and enjoyable video, however, there seemed to be a lot of ads in that 22 min section more than normal which spoils the flow of your video's
The amount of ads is up to RUclips 🤷🏻♂️
My dad made it into wine.
What are your recipes for Matcha and chai Rooibo tea?
Idk what's going on, but when I try to watch this on my PS5 I don't get English, I get auto directed to Spanish audio and I don't speak it. There doesn't seem tribe a fix. Works fine on my phone.
Hello- You can thank Benjamin Franklin for the time change.
Muito bom 🇧🇷
Hallo fra danmark.mjød er super godt
Good Morning Denmark! Hello from Virginia, US.

Do you grow horseradish

Your jar is too big for one wick..... Try using a votive size container with one wick.... you'll have more success!
❤❤❤🕊️
What curriculum do you use?
Masterbooks
Why I have got your video in french ?
I want it in english.
I do not understand why everything is in french.
Do you know why ? And if yes how can I get in english again ?😉
I found it !!
Better in english, I want to progress me !!
Glad you figured it out! What was the issue? There were a few people saying that it was playing in the wrong language for them.

It is weird because when I click on the video it is in french and the title as well is in french so to get in English I have click on settings and after on audio track.
I select english and it works.
But I hope for your next video I will have everything in english straightly.
I understand in French because I am French but I want to progress in Englsih so I want it only in this language.
Guys your videos are great !!😉
I work for a little organic seeds company in France near Angers we are in a farm.
We sell seeds, plants, trees...

wow Hindi audio, what a surprise 😲 😲
There have been a few comments about audio in different languages.. I believe it has to do with a setting on your tv.. people said it worked fine on their phones. I can’t find anything on my end that I can do.
What is "HOA"?
Homesteaders of America
Wait….Cowboy is a girl?
😂 Yesssss.... We were told she was a boy when we got her, and by the time we noticed she wasn't, the name had already stuck 😁 Slightly embarrassing and also humorous 😏
Ironic you say that about time change, because farming and cattle is exactly what it was invented for. 😂 Kids don't factor in, but the other things do.
Kodie, just a comment, human Grade Food does not necessarily indicate quality food, ……… for humans and for animals!
Weird I was watching this video on my TV and it won't let me watchbitnin english. It dubbed it in all these other languages
That is strange.. There have been a few people that said that, and I haven't found a solution. I think it's a setting you can choose, but I will keep trying to figure out if there's something I can do.
I cannot watch bc in Japanese. I’ve tried to change but YT doesn’t offer English version in setting.

I tried all settings on YT & TV. It is only on YT paid subscription on my ROKU TV. My Apple TV & phone/iPad are fine. I just cast from phone to TV. Great Video!!!
@@morethanfarmers
YT said it was because the video used the “Auto Dubbed” feature. I have no clue…that was just their reply to my trouble ticket. Hope this helps in some way!
@@Retired_n_Luvin_It Thank you so much! We'll do what we can over here.
