Mama Africa, You live for ever. You evoke pride You evoke determination You evoke justice, peace, love and dignity among others. Listening in 2024 . Proud Biafran /African.
Another great old song that I would like this choir to render is this: Mgbe m na-ahu/Ihe nile/ nke na-eme/n'uwa nke a/ Mgbe m na-ahu/ ihe ojoo nile/ Nke na-eme/n'ebe/nile O di m ka/m kwara nku/ Wee fegoro enuigwe/eh/ Fekwuru/Chineke Nna/ Gaa/juo Ya ajuju/ Ole mgbe ka nsogbu/nke uwa/ Ga-agwu ?/ Ole mgbe ka ekwensu/ Ga-ano nwayo ?/ Ghara ime /ka aghara/na nsogbu/ Na mgba/na ogu/ Juputa na ebe dum/ Gaa juo Ya ajujju /
Great Song!!! But could some one give credit or mention the original composer of this song, the late Harcourt White of the Leper Colony Choir Uzuakoli in Abia State in the sixties.
The credit has been duly give to Ikoli Harcourt Whyte through this concert. The concert was in his honor. Held on May 11, 2017 in commemoration of the fortieth anniversary of his death. His first son (Sir Goddy Dagogo) and one of his grandsons (Dr. Somiari) attended the concert.
the concert was titled, “An evening with Harcourt whyte” also the song artist and year of release was mentioned at the beginning of each song. How else do you want him to be credited
I LISTEN TO ALL THIS SONGS EVERYDAY ONLINE, BUT I AM WORRIED ON WHY YOU CAN'T GIVE US A FULL AUDIO OR VIDEO OF "AN EVENING WITH HARCOURT WHYTE" ON A CD. PLEASE WE NEED THEM ON CD. I LOVE ALL THE SONGS. #ChinickTV
The composer is Harcourt White. You can find more of Harcourt White's music on youtube. Google him, he has an interesting story. Uzuakoli leper colony.
I'm enjoying this song, please I want to get the last line of stanza one very clearly"N' mgbaghara njo, chebe nwa gi" And the 2nd stanza, let me Know the wordings, thanks
I don't agree some lyrics in the song. The first stanza should read : Mmiri nke ndu /na-ezosi ike Ufufe nke ndu/na-efesi ike Ebili mmiri/na-amaghari/ Juputara /na ebe nile/n'uwa/ ......... Ufufe nke ndu /na-efesi ike
Concerning the Ikoli Harry White song:Chebe m O Nna, and his other songs, people often ask for the lyrics, forgetting that he didn't actually write out the lyrics. What he usually did was to recite a narrative in relation to the social philosophy or experience of the time, or in relation to the theme of the particular song in question. Then the song will be rendered. Another issue was that the stanzas were not repeated, unlike the chorus, and were mostly rendered in the soprano tune and by women. Which made it difficult for the wordings of a particular song to be distinct or clear.
The only thing left is for us to apply literary art in analysing the song in each given case. In the circumstance ,the context and content of the song will be unravelled.
Amen 🙏
God bless me please 🙏
Mama Africa,

I love this song so much
The second stanza goes:
Ekwensu di ka oke-odum /
Nke na-agbo uja/nke iwe di/
Na-ejeghari /na ebe dum/
Na-achosi ike/onye o ga-eloghi/
Another great old song that I would like this choir to render is this:
Mgbe m na-ahu/Ihe nile/ nke na-eme/n'uwa nke a/
Mgbe m na-ahu/ ihe ojoo nile/
Nke na-eme/n'ebe/nile
O di m ka/m kwara nku/
Wee fegoro enuigwe/eh/
Fekwuru/Chineke Nna/
Gaa/juo Ya ajuju/
Ole mgbe ka nsogbu/nke uwa/

Ole mgbe ka ekwensu/
Ga-ano nwayo ?/
Ghara ime /ka aghara/na nsogbu/
Na mgba/na ogu/
Juputa na ebe dum/
Gaa juo Ya ajujju /

Harcourt White is not an ordinary man but was sent to us by God. Wow! What a wonderful song.
Oh Lord most high, my prayers is to be with you on the last day.... Please guide me on this Earth...
Yes this is the song that was played during General Aguyi Ironsi's funeral. I love this song but it brings me to tears..
The tears will turn to joy when Biafra is restored.
Just watched the video of his burial, then came here to look for the song

This is very powerful and wonderfully arranged
What a Glorious moment, this is the type of moment i find very difficult to forget in my life, in fact it reminds me of 2003/2008 NFCS FUTO
I Wish the Golden voices of STACC FUTO had a RUclips channel. They were too good.
Golden voices..

Mmiri nke ndu /na-ezosi ike
Ufufe nke ndu/na-efesi ike
Ebili mmiri/na-amaghari/
Juputara /na ebe nile/n'uwa/
.........
Ufufe nke ndu /na-efesi ike
The chorus goes:
Chebe mu o / Chebe nwa Gi /3-ice.
Chebe mu o/O Nna/
Na mu amaro/ndi oma /Chebe nwa Gi.
It is not:Na mu amaro njo/Nna/
Chebe nwa Gi. If you don't have sin ,you are perfect and don't need saving. The sick only is in need of a physician.
Na muamaro ndi oma is an old Onitsha saying meaning that you are not usually a lucky person. You don't have connections.
