My wife and I are retiring in 10 days with teacher pensions at age 56. We are selling our house and downsizing. The house is selling for 6 times what we paid for it in 1997. I will continue to do odd jobs like I did every summer until I don't want to anymore. We don't even need Social Security but will take it and oh yeah, we can draw off our 403B's in 3 years. All I can say is PLAN, PLAN, PLAN people. A financial advisor for Oppenheimer convinced us to start a 403B with $20 a month in 1991 and we are so grateful we listened to him.

Someone that gets a pension stuck with the same job for 20-30yrs.
    They earned it!!
Yeah I got one, but 30yrs in construction beats your body up.
Also in construction the lay off is always just around the corner. Keeps you in the mind set not to get into debt

Yes it is nice to have a pension, I worked for it for 40 years, did a stint in the military then went to work as a civilian for DoN, life for the most part is a result of choices, oh yea and no debt and we live modestly, have 2011 f-250 and 2016 lexus, all paid for

Congrats on your persistence. It takes a goal oriented person to stay in most government positions for that many years. I just could not do it. Enjoy your hard-earned money. I hope it is big.

If you want a pension, then go get a pension. Most government jobs have nice pensions and government jobs are plentiful. Otherwise, please quit whining! 😂

Pensions from military are a blessing for my wife and I. Retired at 44 and 47 and did little part time jobs until 56. Drive cheap cars, mow own lawn etc.
