I dont even play Guilty Gear Strive, I just love watching the gameplay and community. So season 4 was VERY entertaining to watch from a standby perspective
The idea of S4 is cool but in practice none of the decisions (except maybe Sol/Nago changes) feel like they make sense. Sin does the same thing but better. Ram does the same thing except she can be +30 at will now. Asuka does the same thing except he's terrible now. Pot does the same thing except he's god now. Goldlewis does the same thing but better in basically every way. I like the idea of character identity, but what *is* character identity if certain characters aren't allowed to have their gimmick be actually functional? Testament's gameplan still barely functions, Asuka has gotten every facet of his kit shot and all his bad MUs buffed. If the zoners can't zone out GL or Pot but still get dumpstered by every rushdown, what are they even here for?
I've had this feeling that the dev team was under a significant amount of crunch for the simultaneous dizzy release and Season 4 launch, maybe announcing all of the season 4 dlc characters at once was also a contributing factor as well. But I don't know how much longer I can keep holding on to that theory. I'm sure crunch has been killer for the staff during every deadline, but Season 4 has generally dropped the ball so far, and not just in terms of "I don't like the balance!" But in the fact that there were some pretty glaring bugs in the game on the launch of season 4 and ArcSys' stated goal of "increasing the number of interactions" seems to have completely failed as interactions appear to be the same as they ever were in Season 3. It's a shame too, because I was actually really happy with how things were in Season 3, it was a bit hit or miss at the start with the introduction of Wild Assault but I overall enjoy the mechanic and appreciate there being a use for burst beyond just escaping from combos. I can't help wondering if maybe ArcSys is working on another big project right now that has most of their main talent focused elsewhere, because as it is right now people are starting to lose confidence in Strive's future.
Im starting to feel like whenever i get into a certain game it just starts going down hill The second i bought ggst my RUclips feed just became season 4 bad 😭
I've really not gotten the chance to play Season 4 much, but even with the overall miss when it came to where they wanted Strive to go, I can appreciate the approach they intended. They wanted everyone to have their "gimmick" be more pronounced (roster wide stronger strengths and weaker weaknesses), rounds to last longer, and overall just make it more engaging. I can't form an opinion as my online presence in Strive has been minimal, but I can say that it is cool to see ArcSys shaking up the game to such a degree so often, though it does lead to a significant amount of disorientation sometimes.
Realistically s4 wasnt that bad. Theres a lot of balance changes i absolutely hate but its amazing theyre finding these big ways to change up the game. Every few months it feels like a complete meta shake up (except for a select few top tiers) and no matter which way you look at it, those shakeups are fun.
For me its the Airdashes, the gatlings, the balance, and the lack of IKs that makes this game altogether unenjoyable. its great for beginners but clearly a step down from the previous titles in terms of complexity.
@@Phosphophyllite21 keep in mind tho that xrd is quite literally dead and buried and +r is just barely alive cause there's no region lock in there. Strive is the only gg game that has active player base, regardless of how small it is compared to mk or tekken
@@Phosphophyllite21 You are forgetting the teeny tinyyy little part where airdashers like that will never ever be made again. Instead arcsys will continue to make games "where confident movement, reads and LUCK can allow one to seize a chance at victory". Daisukes words, by the way, not mine.
@@sidsscrumpy1647 If you're in NA this is a blatant lie, +R and Xrd are some of the most active games of the older generations. If you're outside NA then it's definitely harder to find matches but not close to being dead. A dead FG is when you're the only person active (which is only a few very small fightcade games)
As someone who used to hate xrd, I moved to it (and +r when I'm feeling like playing 200ms+ games on chipp) ever since S4 and I can say for sure it's just a better game, at least for now. It feels faster (in movement and hits) and yet matches last way longer if you have basic knowledge on what you're doing. Also the fact that there's no wall break and that u have better options to reset to neutral in general is pretty neat. If you're currently struggling in Strive, just play a better Guilty Gear.
Maybe a hot take. But the only issue with season 4 is bugs, and the fact you can't play prior season like you can play rev 1 in rev 2, or the different street fighter 4 character vatiants Season 4 is my dream. I never had anything seteled in that game. So having more bullshit to blaze is all I'm asking for. The more I can overwhelm and fumble my neutral. And the most I like a game. I love sf 5 but sf6 is better. Smash is one of my favorite fighting game. And paladins is more i'tresting than ow because of all the bullshit you can pull. Again. The issue is that you can't play season 3. But seasons 4 is mor like rev 2.wich I would love to enjoy. But I'm way worst than strive. So I'm happy season 4 Is a thing.
Believe me, Skullgirls isn't worth it. Because of that game I used to hate fighting games (before playing strive) in general and hearing how they remove features people paid for on a whim, I'd not pay anything for it. Not to mention that game has just as many active players as ps5 has games
@sidsscrumpy1647 No fighting game outside of major ones has big online player counts. It doesn't make it "not worth it". The game actually feels 10 times more fun and interactions and the characters are way more interesting.
@@ReRubis no, it doesn't? For both? From what I remember (from like 2015-2018) I used to wait for 1/2 hour and get absolutely steamrolled as I watch my character get beaten in a literal, not exaggerating, 50 hit combo and a super at the end, and then being put in a 50/50 oki that ends in my main char dead and now my secondary char has to fight on their own. If I remember correctly I had Parasoul as a secondary char, so yeah no defensive moves nor quick pokes. It doesn't matter how interactive the game is on paper, if I can't play it at all it just isn't. Any Guilty Gear is way more fun to play simply because I don't have to wait for like 10 minutes until the combo ends and because I don't have to read dustloop like bible just to be able to play online, not even in ranked.

That’s just the FGC, it’ll get better, and the game is still enjoyable at least to me
People in the fgc are super negative about everything
If they ever release a new Guilty Gear, I'm sure people will look fondly on this game and hate the new one, as always

I mean if you don't like Strive period just play Xrd or Rev2 or whatever instead of complaining about how you don't like Strive on a Strive video.

the problem is ME
Season 4 bad?
No.
We are bad.
ngl, as an elphelt player, i'm happy with this patch. def alot of BS in it tho
they need to give Garudog back NOW
The only way arc sys can save strive is add leopaldon
Season 4 is bad because Jam isn't in it. Season 5 will be good because Jam will be added!!
problem is that zato is bottom 2
The dedication o7
