Ive been in and around the machining/welding/fab world for a little while now, but I pick a little something up almost every time I watch you. I liked in this Stroken Spline Part 1 when you were taking an O.D. cut towards the chuck using the feed, and while it was on its way back you got the tailstock setup with the centerdrill and went to town. Great timesaver if you know you will be waiting for a while on the machine to feed. Anyway, thanks again. I have plenty of projects, but you inspire me to get off my butt and make it happen.
I got one of these Wonder Wands a couple of weeks ago and have been using it every time I make chips in my shop. I was going to show how great it is in my next video, but now you came along and showed everybody. Damn you, hahaha... !

Happy New Year.. I found myself yelling "Reverse ! Put it in reverse!! " ..LOL.. I remember turning a set of inserts back to powder when I ran a 4 inch shell mill backwards a while back.. Ahhh the pretty sparks it made when the holder met 420 stainless at high RPM.. Thanks again for your videos.
My son, who is a farrier, has a similar tool (but different shape) to your wonder wand fpr picking up and collecting old broken, bent horse shoe nails from pretty well any surface and it works brilliantly as well.

I had it on this summer sailing in some real slop from Portland Maine to Camden. My dad was seasick, rare, and in a real knockdown blow I looked up at the reef and it blew overboard. My dad looks at me with that look like you're not going back for that are you? I had to throw in a few hard gybes and with some sort of miracle the hat was still floating and visible. I'm proud to say I got it rather than davey jones... I have a video somewhere of it happening I'll dig it up. Thanks again and keep those videos coming we all appreciate the time and effort you put in.
Cool, this is an interesting series. Interior spline is way more challenging. You must be lucky. Every time I mess up with rotation I chip the tip off the carbide...:-(

You're frequently breaking/knocking off the corners on projects, and for good reason. Safety and easier fittament, as I recall. I've wondered why you always seem to use a tool-bit for this, even bothering to swap for a better one! Would it not work as well to just pick up a file, and lightly touch the corner? Would that be too aggressive, or wear the file too much? Obviously would only work on outside corners, I realize.
That is an insane amount of work. I mean all the fixtures you have to make. So the question I always wanted to ask. Do you ,can you, charge for all the fixture labor? Can you ad some? Probably not all cost of setting up,it would be too much. So what is reasonable???
That wonder wand is nice. In one of my videos I show how you can make your own tool demagnetizer using an old microwave transformer in case you happen to magnetize one of your tools.
Keith Is that hydraulic motor drive an " SEW Eurodrive " brand ? I think I've seen a similar one here, but I can't remember what it was on. What's this winch used for ? Five motors in a radial arrangement ? Is there any gearbox in the winch, or only in the drive ? That thing must punch out some hefty torque ! Cheers and happy New Year !

If my customer could find the exact need on the shelf he would have bought it! They searched and I even gave them and looked myself in the suppliers we all knew and just in the brief page you sent they have no combination straight bore and spline opposite ends. anyhow we all search for on shelf and availability in the time frame needed. It is so cool: how you can resurrect, fine tune or create your own tooling. Not just "make it work" but you can get it incredibly acccurate!

You could use a solenoid to de-magnetise your tools, used to do that all the time in watchmaking.

I do grab a file and hit the corners at times but if I can use a bit, it cuts down on the skid marks on the files. ;{)------

@ 6:55 is that backlash in your cross slide that's getting taken up as you tighten the toolpost up, seems like a lot?

This winch is used on a work barge and the drive is direct. I'm not sure of the brand, my focus was on the spline shape. ;{)------
