- Shan (Muang Tai) State is the largest state in Myanmar, situated in the northeast of the country. The Shan people actually call themselves Tai or Dai.
Lao people call them Tai Shan or Dai Shan, Thai people in Thailand refer them as Tai Yai ( Big Thai) and the Shan call their land "Muang Tai" rather than Shan State.
Anyway...Enjoy the"Tai Shan" music. Does it sound like Lao language?

ชนเผ่าไทเป็นชนเผ่าพื้นเมืองที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดชนเผ่าหนึ่งในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ สืบเชื้อสายมาจากมนุษย์ตะวันออก อันเป็นมนุษย์ดึกดำบรรพ์ที่แก่แก่ที่สุดในโลก อายุราว ๒,๕๐๐,๐๐๐ ปี พบที่หยวนโมวมณฑลยูนนาน ซึ่งเป็นเขตเก่าแก่ที่สุดที่มีร่องรอยมนุษย์ดึกดำบรรพ์อาศัยอยู่สืบมาจนถึงยุคหินใหม่ เมื่อประมาณ ๗,๐๐๐ ปีมาแล้ว พบหลักฐานทางโบราณคดีจำนวนมากในยุคหินใหม่ คือ เครื่องปั้นดินเผาแบบลายกด ขวานหินมีบ่า และขวานหินขัด ซึ่งเป็นลักษณะเฉพาะของวัฒนธรรมไป่เยว่สมัยโบราณ ที่เป็นบรรพบุรุษของชนชาติไท คิดไม่ออกเลยว่าเราจะรวมประเทศของคนเผ่าไทให้เป็นประเทศเดียวได้อย่างไร คนไทกระจายตัวกันอยู่ เช่นในเขตพม่ามีไทใหญ่ ไทลื้อ ไทเขิน ไทยอง ไทมาว ไทแดง เป็นต้น ในจีน มีไทลื้อ ไทเหนือ ไทหย่า ชาวจ้วง ปู้ใหย่ ปู้อี ปู้นง เป็นต้น ในเวียดนาม ไทดำ ไทแดง ไทขาว ชาวโท้ ปู้นุง ลาวบ๊ก ชาวไต ไทลื้อ เป็นต้น ในประเทศไทย ก็มีเหมือนๆในปรดเทศอื่นๆนั่นแหละ ไทใหญ่ ไทน้อย ไทสยาม คนเผ่าลาวในประเทศลาว เป็นต้น จริงๆคนไทถูกผสมโดยการแต่งงานข้ามไปข้ามมากลายเป็นคนจีน คนเวียดนาม คนพม่า คนเขมร คนไทย เป็นต้น ใครคิดเหมือนผมไหมถ้ารวมคนเชื้อชาติไท คนชาติพันธุ์ไท ไต จะรวมได้ง่ายกว่ารวมคนไททั้งหมดมาเป็นประเทศเดียวกัน เพราะมีการตีเส้นกำหนดเส้นเขตแดนของแต่ละประเทศแล้ว ตัวอย่างจิ๋นซีฮ่องเต้รวมคนเป็นประเทศเดียวกันต้องตีหลายแคว้นเพื่อเอามารวมกันเป็นจีนเดียว เป็นต้น สมัยนี้เราคงทำไม่ได้แล้ว

More than 80 Millions Tai or Dai People and communities living in Asia. Only in
Thailand and Lao they can establish as own state/country. Some TAIs
maintain status as a minority tribes/communities such are in India,
China and Vietnam. Some unlucky, has become under the rule (within their
own lands) by other cheated nation such as Tai in Shan State, Burma.
Imagine! If all Tais can re-assemble together, it will be a another big
community race in the world..

SPORTS382 Let me repeat, Lue and Viet have the same name called Dai people. Dai Viet also came from Southern China same as Lue ( Dai people ). Stupid Dai people. Yue is Chinese name for Viet they used to be called Dai Viet. Viet is short for Vietnamese. Dai mean umbrella in Han Chinese. So Lue and Viet are Dai ( Umbrella peoples )??? LMFAO.

Xieng Tung (present day Kengtung) was Lao territory. That city was settled by Lan Na King Mengrai - who I have already proven to you that was Lao - before he set out to found Xieng Mai (Chiang Mai).
There are 2 distinct languages spoken in Shan state: Proper Shan and Lao Shan/Laotian. They are not mutually intelligible.

I am Tai Dam. I have been to Shan State but didn't meet any Tai people here. I've been to Inle lake.
Inle lake is mostly inhabited by Burmese people, not Tai. Much of parts of Western Shan state have large Burmese and other ethnic group populations. That wasn't always true, but is true now. But Eastern Shan state is heavily Tai. This song is from Eastern Shan state, where most of the people are Tai Khun, Tai Yawng, and Tai Lue

It is a song about protecting Muang Tai (Shan State) from invaders (the Burmese), those who want to steal Muang Tai away and make Tai people disappear, but because we are Tai, we must make sure that does not happen and protect our land, language, and culture

Shan comes from Siam,
Shan means mountain in Burmese and Chinese. Hence they are from Ai Lao Shan "Ai Lao Mountain" and that is just a branch of Lao.

shan state was never part of laos wtf r u saying? and settathirat never got chiang mai back from burma. he abandon it because the toongu burman were the strongest at that time. settathirat died in attapue never got chiang mai back. and laos didntyn lose sippsongpanna to china because china tribe the haw invaded in 1830. in 1830 laos was under siam control along with sipsongpanna. the siamese lost that city to the chinese haw because of the french interference. your history is all mess up
However Xieng Tung was founded by Lao.
Sipsongbanna was part of LanXang Kingdom. Lanna also became part of LanXang and was a sibling kingdom with lineage from Xieng Dong Xieng Tong. Son La was also part of LanXang's Xieng Khouang and TaiDam migrated from the Black River when the Mongol invaded.
Siam is a Mon Dynasty kingdom and Mon ethnic is not Tai or Lao. Siam changed it's name to Thailand and declared that thai means free. Thai means free because the root word is "tHai" as in "bail" or "ransom" which is not the same as "tDai" meaning "of".
Thailand is a Mon Dynasty Kingdom. Siam is the old name of Mon people.

oh ok, I see, so most of the Shan State people speaks Lao? When I listen to the music, I do understand them, but not 100% and I have to really in to the music to understand them, but not all though even though I tried lol.. but its really similar to Pha Sa Lao.
the pronouns and some nouns refer to family member are obviously laos words. thai lao language are slightly different in pronouns, and some words which are different in consonant.
"Lao Shan" is only spoken in and around Xieng Tung (Kengtung). The rest of Shan State speak "Proper Shan". Sipsongbanna, Lan Na, Kengtung and Xieng Dong Xieng Tong (Luang Prabang) all speak dialects of the same language as these areas all fall inside the sphere of Lao influence. They use the same pronouns; use the word "sao" (ซาว) (ຊາວ) for 20; eat sicky rice; have a spirit house outside their homes etc. Missionaries referred to these areas indiscriminately as "Lao Land".

@oneviwatara No. Taiwanese and Indonesian and Filipino etc are Austronesian which Lao people already have Austronesian admixture before entering Southeast Asia. That last name is clearly Lao because it is Sanscrit and Pakrit derivative and TaiDam are not Buddhist.

Very close to Lao language ! If I don't see the title I would mistaken it as Tai Lue. Very nice music ! The rhythms of the song are quite similar to Lao song to at least 90-95%. Very interesting !

So most of the Shan State people speak Tai somewhat similar to Tai Dam (V N ) Tai Nuar, Tai Mao(N Yunnan ) and Thai Yuan(N Thailand ) while TaiLue Tai Dam and Thai Yuan are more closed in their dialect to Pha Sa Lao.
