- Tandoori Pomfret is a delicious fish delight. Here the fish marinated with tandoori spices and then grill in the oven. The exotic flavors of spices all wrapped in the fish and make the fish really juicy and scrumptious.
TANDOORI POMFRET
Ingredients
4 large pomfrets
Salt to taste
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
2 teaspoons+ 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
3 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons Kashmiri chilli paste
½ cup hung yogurt
½ teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
½ teaspoon garam masala powder
2 tablespoons roasted gram flour
1 teaspoon oil
1 medium onion
1 medium tomato
½ medium cucumber
Fresh coriander sprig for garnishing
Butter for brushing
Chaat masala for sprinkling
Method
1. Preheat oven to 200° C.
2. Make incision on both sides of each pomfret and place on a plate. Add salt, turmeric powder, 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste and 2 tablespoons lemon juice and mix. Add Kashmiri chilli paste and rub well outside and inside the pomfret. Set aside to marinate for 15 minutes.
3. To prepare 2nd marinade, combine hung yogurt, remaining lemon juice, remaining Kashmiri chilli paste, remaining ginger-garlic paste and carom seeds and garam masala powder in a bowl and whisk. Add salt and whisk. Add gram flour and whisk well.
4. Apply the 2nd marinade over each marinated pomfret.
5. Drizzle oil on a baking tray, place the prepared fish and set aside to marinate for 15 minutes.
6. Put the tray into the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes.
7. Cut onion and tomato into thin roundels. Diagonally slice cucumber. Place on one side of a serving platter.
8. Cut lemon into wedges, place over the salad and garnish with coriander sprigs.
9. Brush some butter and sprinkle some chaat masala on top of tandoori fish, place on the other side the platter and serve hot.

Dear sanjeevji Mine is black pomfret fish. I have otg, is it better to keep in preheated 200o C in otg. Secondly in first marination ginger garlic paste and salt with lemon juice is added. In second marination if I add these three ingredients won't salt ginger garlic qty will increase and too much salt and ginger garlic is also not good in summers. What u say Reply me soon Thanks Rims1

This tastes much better when tawa fried with a little oil than baked. I tried both, frying gives it a crispy coating because of the besan in the marinade. Baking made it soft. It’s a great recipe, thanks!

You will require lemon only if your yogurt is not sour. If yogurt is sour you can avoid using lemon in second marination
If the presenter chef says lime or lemon for an ingredient they have used, I would be hesitant to try the recipe.

hi i wanted to ask if that vegetable shortening is vanaspati ghee because i want to use vegetable shortening and i searched it online but i didnt get the exact answer but they are both hydrogenated oil so i think that it is vegetable shortnening so plzz tell me
Here, we have used refined oil and you can use the same.

Vanaspati ghee is a type of vegetable shortening, but for baking purposes, it is best if you use butter/margarine.
What is the substitute for hung yogurt ?
There is no substitute for hung yogurt.
Hung yogurt is simply regular yogurt without the excess liquid. If you can get some yogurt, just drain the excess liquid using a strainer or a cloth. And you can substitute with greek yogurt or butter milk

Preheat the oven to 200° C and bake it for 15-20 minutes, depending upon your oven. So keep a check on it while it's baking.
