Assad should be first picher to get extended this offseason. I was leaning with Steele first now im good rather have Assad.

They should grab a Japanese catcher for Imanaga to enhance communication and chemistry, plus there's a good chance he'd have a bigger bat than our current catchers

It’s more about his command. He’s hanging them out over the plate right now. He’ll come around.
What has David Bote done to Jed Hoyer that he just bury him in AAA? Bote should be up here now in Madrigals place. WTF?
They could at least get something for him from a team that's desperate for an infield/bench bat
Theo signed him to that extension and Hoyer didn't like it . He wants to prove Theo wrong , so he stagnates a guys career . What a tool .
Steele is still getting his sea legs from being out injured. He lost whatever conditioning and pitch feel he got from spring training. He should be fine in another few starts. Cubs just need to keep giving him run support until then.

Funny how since last years All Star break Steele has pitched exactly:
- 101 innings
- 45 Earned runs ( + 12 unearned )
- 4.00 ERA
That makes sense, but let him work out the kinks in Triple A
Glad you guys finally brought up the Mastro vs Mads debate. Obviously we are in a unique place of need with BOTH(!!!!!!) Nico and Dansby out, but in general they feel very redundant on this roster and Mastro is definitely my choice to keep between the two.
Fan bases tend to exaggerate when they lose and cubs fans are the worst at that.. am I worried? Yes but in a I hope he finds himself way.. Steele was pitching very well in the rangers game and keeping us in it like the old Steele but what happened? He got injured and missed a month of playing time... Of course he's going to struggle right now his season just started if we're being honest while Shota and assad have had time to warm up..
I'm not worried because the cubs aren't playoff team to me . Ppl going crazy because the offense and imanaga was carrying the team . The bullpen still bad and starting pitching still mediocre you got imanaga and Javier only two pitching good in the rotation
@@liveanddieinchicagoliveand7074 I agree I don't really see the cubs being a playoff team either.. the offense has potential but they're gonna have to figure out what to do with happ, madrigal, miles and Amaya bc they're underperforming... but the bullpen is gonna always be their downfall until they add some valuable guys for the pitching. Games like these they got to win especially against the pirates
@@ricoransom2001 Jed knew that bullpen and rotation needed help but ricketts family and there cheapness will be the cubs downfall. You had Montgomery and snell right there for the taken and bullpen arms they refused to spend in a winnable division if the cubs had Montgomery and snell you Wouldn't have to rush steele back and added two really good bullpen arms but they got cody and imanaga thats it thats all they could afford lol smh

Man Justin Steele has been very disappointing since his return from his injury but it’s not just his fault it’s also the defense that let him down.
Justin's lucky his two pitches have gotten him this far . The league's caught up to that . He better come up with a third pitch or it ain't gonna get any better . This downturn started with the last couple of his starts last season.
Right now, he's not getting the job done. So, until he can achieve the desired expectations the team should be concerned.
Also way to many errors. Defense was not locked in.
I’m worried about our catcher, first base, third base, left field, Steele, and entire bullpen. We strikeout above league average with runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs. We have given up first home runs of the season for most of the pirates order
I took more positive from this game tbh. The young guys are hitting and the bats overall are coming alive after slumping. Bullpen is very slowly starting to show some life with guys like Brown, Wes, and Miller. Steele getting hit around doesn’t worry me because I know the cubs already have at the very least 2 elite starters and a lot of starter depth. Madrigal and Mastrobouni hitting is a really good sign.
The first requirement of being a true Cubs fan is to be worried about everything. History has proven this mindset to be correct. Game 7 in 2016 was even a worrisome night...right to the Bryant throw that seemed high as he stumbled forward. Most Cubs fans worried that throw was going over the outreached arm of Rizzo. Hahaha.
I wish I could acknowledge the quote, but I'll paraphrase The Unknown Pundit 'Cubs fans are bipolar, win a few it's World Series, lose a few 'it was just a matter of time, we saw it coming, wait till next year...'
Suziki swung at one in the other box as well. Madrigal had an RBI single today. Go check out the Catchers.
Suzuki cost Cubs a run on defense, and Madrigal cost them 2 in the first(awful double play attempt on an easy one)
Counsell's best bet would have been to let Gomes play alot from day 1 just like last year where Gomes had some big hits and got into an early rhythm...and Amaya has plenty of time to develop and work his way in as he's still a very young catcher
Steele was completely out of gas in mid early Aug 2 years ago and Cub pushed him, and he was out of gas in late Aug last year and Cub pushed again bec of the under-manned attempt at a playoff run... he's had major arm issues in the past and Cub need to manage his health and not push until it's championship time... did same thing to Alz, Merriw and Leiter last year...
And just dfa Madrigal... he's a shell of the guy who lead off for the Sox 3 years ago.... he's flexing that hamstr leg constantly... just call up Vazquez

FAns should be worried about the front office. I think a grade of D is earned. Hoerner should have gone on the IL. 2 hits VS the Pirates on sunday??????? Taillon should have been left in the game to get out of his own mess. 90-100 pitches in under 5 innings is not going to work. It won't take Skenes long to figure that out if he wants wins and quality starts. Taillon should know that already.
Steel is fine. It was a hitters Umpire tonight, the wind was blowing out, some defensive mistakes.
I think we should be a little concerned about Steele. He’s not right yet. Hopefully he figures it out quickly. Also, Cubs have been really bad in getting guys in when you need to.

I like Steele but everyone has seen his 2 pitch ensemble. He REALLY needs a 3rd pitch, a nice circle change or a slitter. With his mechanics, he would prolly be better off with a Circle Change.

😂 Steele should be fine. He just came back from a Hamstring injury. He still trying to get back in form. I rather have the injury and pitching issues happening now than towards the end of the season.
If by “just fine” you mean:
- 4.00+ ERA PITCHER
- Middle of rotation guy
- More than replaceable
- possible Bullpen candidate

Anybody know if Steele is a drinker? I know he’s no fitness freak like say Jake A. was but I was just kinda wondering if he’s maybe making things harder on himself with some less than desirable habits. I base this on nothing. Just curious.
