Hey everyone, here are the time stamps! 02:30 - Genetics and long term health 04:30 - Digestion, gas, bloating (lots covered in this answer!) 13:10 - Anti nutrients in foods 15:09 - Macro counting on a WFPB diet
Awesome interview, Dr.Klaper is someone I looked to when researching becoming Vegan regarding foods and nutrition. I am so happy for you and for all of us that you got to interview him looking forward to part 2.
With all due respect, Dr. Klaper made some unscientific and inaccurate statements. This is pretty misleading... dismissing gas as normal is not correct. Gas, bloating, and pain is not normal. Antinutrients are much worse for human health than he outlines. He dismisses the warning signs that veganism is terrible for human health to favor his ideology. Bacon does not "rub" on your intestines. Like all meat, it is completely broken down into amino acids and fatty acids which are readily absorbed and used by the body. He also suggested that liver enzymes play a role in digestion, which is not true. Liver enzymes do not digest our food, pancreatic enzymes do. He also said that our digestive systems are basically the same as monkeys and herbivores when actually, it is closest to that of a wolf. The low stomach acidity, the gallbladder, the pancreatic enzymes, lack of fermentation chamber prior to the stomach, short large intestine and long small intestine... we are designed to break down protein and fat. We are not equipped to handle fiber and plants. We can digest starch (an adaptation that has allowed us to survive when animal food was scarce) but most plants are indigestible unless processed. Lectins are especially resistant to digestion and cannot be eradicated. Plants don't have claws or teeth or legs to run away, their defense mechanisms are present in the form of chemicals. He also ignores the damage that a high carbohydrate diet can do. The standard American diet is not a high meat diet, it is a high carb diet. That is the true cause of heart disease and diabetes. Carbs are not essential and not healthy.
I eat a standard American diet but I really enjoy your channel and want to give veganism a try. You're definitely opening my eyes and make me wanna change my lifestyle.
I think it's great that you are watching this channel and learning so much about nutrition and how to eat right already, so when you try vegan, you'll know more than most people do when they first go vegan. I'd recommend looking into Dr. Michael Greger's daily dozen which gives a good idea of what sort of foods to fill your diet with. Once you're adding all the good stuff in, there won't be any room for the bad stuff (the animal products). I'd also recommend looking into documentaries on the ethics behind veganism to really solidify the lifestyle change, docs like Dominion or Earthlings, because it's unnecessary what is being done to animals when we can be happier and healthier eating just plants. ✌🌌💜 good luck to you!
Love Dr Klaper. With his main focus being anesthesiology in the past, I loved his quote “I got tired of putting people to sleep and wanted to start helping them WAKE UP”💚💚💚
I'm a Seventh-day Adventist and we've been preaching and teaching the plant based diet since the 1800's. The rest of the world is catching up, and, sadly, our church is losing the message we have been given. If you haven't already, look into the Adventist health message and Adventist health study. The blue zones, as studied by National Geo, listed Loma Linda (SDA's) as one of their groups.
Love Dr. Klaper; great to see him chatting with you in your backyard. Audio quality is not a problem at all! Thank you for your uplifting, informative content.
I’m literally about to go to your website and buy your meal plan. I’ve been vegan for 2 years now and I am a lousy and lazy cook. I make excuses as to why I can’t get back in to shape and when I’m not eating right I don’t train right, so I’m my own worst nightmare. Being fit, healthy and aesthetically pleasing is what I need and I’m confident that you, your vibe, content, channel and meals will get me back in shape and healthy again. Thanks for sharing knowledge and experience with us. I’m very grateful. I’m starting body weight workouts this week.
I love dr. Klaper! My grandfather died of a massive heart attack! It was devastating for me at 13 years old. So I love everyone that supports the truth about health!
@@empiricus2211 "lol"? When someone has serious gut health issues, they should consult a professional. For people who look for their medical advice on RUclips, Gojiman would be a good place to start.
Steven Priest gojiman, the person who charges a shitton for tests that might not even give useful results. Why would I take health advice from someone who looks malnourished and grey?
@@empiricus2211 Oh, if you are genuinely sick with gut health issues and insist on choosing your doctors based on their physical beauty, check out Angie Sadeghi, MD. She's the best-looking gastroenterologist in my opinion. And if you're concerned about the expense of tests and whether they'll reveal anything new, well, you've never been as sick as I have been before I switched to a WFPB diet.
@@StevenTPriest Sorry my message came of as really passive agressive. I was in a bad place when I typed that, so I apologize. What I mean with 'looking good' is not beauty in the way that word is most often used. What I meant is the zest for life in his face. Vigor. When I look at that guy he doesn't strike me as someone who knows the in's and out's of his body and is free to use it in any way. That's not meant as an insult, but an observation. Science is useless without the actual experience of well-being.
I cannot agree more. In my grandma's village, people eat lesser but they are all complete unprocessed meals. Rich in good quality protein, packed with nutrition. In cities, we don't really prepare such food. And we are so constantly stressed as if our life is in danger. We are psychologically, emotionally, physically drained. And we expect some random nutrition company to provide a full stop solution for all our problems
I love Michael Klaper and I'm so happy that the things you go through in this video (and in part two!!) are things I've been wondering about for a long time now. I'm excited to see part two and hear what he has to say.
Derek!! Thank you for this, really looking forward to part 2!!! Have subbed to Dr Klaper 's channel - such a nice guy and a font of knowledge based on years of experience 👍. Love your channel too 😊
Wow, there will be part 2!? Awesome! Thank you Derek for asking these questions and bringing this super interesting interview to us! Enjoyed this one, with the audio "thing" I was even more focused haha.
2 of my favourite persons I have learnt a lot from while being vegan... love you guys, always very informative. So cool to see you talking on the same video. Can't wait for part 2.
It personally took me a few months to adjust and find what worked for me. I stuck with it and I have been vegan for a year now and have never felt better. I was also eating too much carbs (rice, pasta, beans, tofu, etc..) and not enough vegetables which I had to change. I now fill half my plate with vegetables, one quarter with complex carb: quinoa, brown basmati rice, buckwheat groats, yams and one quarter with protein: tofu, lentils, beans). We all have a different system and need to figure out what works for us. *Having a couple of fruit and nuts: banana or apple with walnuts, almonds and a couple of brasil nuts snacks throughout the day helped me as well to keep feeling satiated and keep my blood sugar in check.
I can’t wait for part 2! I can’t wait to hear about K2. Thank you so much Derek for asking him about it. Much love brother 💚✌🏻Part one was awesome. Very cool to see how far this channel has come dude and I am so excited to see how far it’s going to go. I’m here for the entire ride, 100%. 🙏🏻
Awesome!!! Please do more interviews! Please do an interview with Michael Gregor Abby Sharp (fellow Canadian) Neal Barnard Rose from Cheap lazy Vegan just from a food perspective and recipe collaboration 😉 also a fellow Canadian. Just my 2 cents 😊

OMG I would love to have met Dr Klaper. I love his videos and I follow him as well, how exciting. Now you gotta do a interview with Dr. Michael Greger.
I subscribed and turned notification Bell on. We need more strong male role models in the vegan Community even if you are only 16 or 17, your voice matters.

about your kind of serie video ''why you should eat them'' could you talk about rice? it is possible to eat rice without arsenic? if it is, how?

If you are into nutrition, look into healthy keto or carnivore. Veganism is not healthy. Coming from an ex-vegan.

Has Gemma made a video on her True North visit? If not that would be awesome!
