    It was good to review my MA content from earlier this year but I feel the symbolic and the semantic (or semic code as I learnt it) codes are a bit confusing I would say.
    I would say a semic code (say, a character's courteous way of speaking or their physical attributes) can in turn raise symbolic code considerations (the implications of courtesy in human relationships), which in turn can raise cultural code discussion (in what culture/society/cultural media are such signs and symbols relevant and which not)
    I like this theory as it is a precursor to Reader-Response.
    It sits on the fence between structuralism and poststructuralism very nicely, allowing to check on both sides of the critical landscape.

      Thanks mate, now its 10x more confusing for me 😭 I just came on here to find the difference between symbolic and semantic and the way I see it is that semantic is a more complex hidden meaning than symbolic code which is more obvious

    Pretty nice video, i have a question though. Can we say for example, that a semiotic code can also be a symbolic code? In your example of the movies Bad Boys 2, the fire and the flames can also communicate the action of the movie, as a semiotic code too. I am a bit confused.

      Certainly, as long as you have an explanation to support that statement then I would say in some instances, just like the one you suggest... Yes!

    Sir, can the connotative meaning of a RUclips video be determined through the comments ?
    For example, there is a video lecture, then there are comments that are pro and some are contra and then look for the connotative meaning of the video from the results of the comments column.

    • @Liv-jy5ki
      @Liv-jy5ki Год назад

      i think so, the connotative meaning for this video, for example, would be 'helpful', as people are thanking him, saying it's 'helped understand' that this video is informational, for audiences to help break down a concept. to denote, it would just be a youtube video, but the viewers give it a purpose. but the meaning is also determined by the creator, his intent for the video was to... but the meaning perhaps came out differently. that is why it is a subjective matter, that most can fall onto meaning about what it is all together. I would say that the comment are a part of the video itself. probably connotative meaning, of engament, interaction, and social media. if u were to analyze a youtube video, i would say the comment would be a very interesting factor in how it's perceived.

    How does the color yellow symbolize vulnerability?

    • @creativetap7346
      @creativetap7346  4 года назад +3

      Very good question. It also depends on the situation. If the child was wearing a black coat, to most people he would not look as innnocent and vulnerable as if it were a childike yellow which is also a primary colour (primary colours are often associated with children). People may see this differently but the general population woudl likely interpret the yellow as childlike and innocent. Comparing this to the dark threatening environment further emphasises this.
