I just got a 3DS recently... And as someone who doesn't have that much money... I'm glad that i learned how to Homebrew that thing to get these Games. And even better, being able to download all the event Quests from these Games. Farewell, 3DS and Wii-U Eshop

I came back to this video after I realized that the online shutting down in April means event quests and other similar content for these games will be locked away soon. Luckily I modded my 3DS in 2017 and just now downloaded all of the DLC content for 3GU and 4GU
I picked up 3 ultimate when I saw that the eShop was gonna go, but I also picked up the original Tri for 6 bucks at a gamestop. I started my Monster Hunter journey in 4U so that's always gonna be with me. Stories was technically my second ever Monster Hunter experience so it's really fun to go back and experience it cause I haven't actually beaten the endgame.

When it comes to acquiring these games, I would highly recommend purchasing used, physical copies and avoiding purchasing the digital license, if you can. At least with a physical copy, the game data can be dumped and playable, like a digital copy would be, but you can do far more with that as well. Though, even digital downloads can be backed up to keep around even after the shop prevents downloads.

Even if you spend the money on a digital copy, there is going to come a time when those aren't accessible to be downloaded again (and I'd guess that's going to be a short window at this point), and then you have to rely on that hardware never getting damaged so you don't lose your only digital copy.
Guys not to downplay the eshop closing down but these games are literally all available physically for pocket change. But you definitely should get the 3U save transfer tool and 4U software update.

You forgot one very important thing make sure to download all the DLC because they have exclusive monsters that aren't in the games. Monster Hunter 3 ultimate has online High rank and G Alatreon. Monster Hunter 4 ultimate has Online G rank Dalamadur, Black Fatalis, and White Fatalis. Monster Hunter Generations has a few Hyper monsters like Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian I think. And yes Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate does run at 60 frames a second but only on New 3DS not the regular 3DS.

After falling in love with the series playing Rise, I wanted to get my hands on as much of the catalog as I could. I'm really happy I caught the eshop while I could still add funds. I've picked up: 3U (3DS) 3U (WiiU) 4U (3DS) GU (Switch) Finding out 3U didn't have my main weapon IG was a bummer but the underwater combat and cross-save features are so interesting to me.
MH4U was my first game and I've put nearly 6000 hours into it, this game has a near unlimited lifetime with custom quest that can spice up the difficulty in so many ways, definitely money well spent

In the event quest download tab. Oh I miss my 400% sized seltas

I’ve had 4U for 8 years and I CANNKT stress enough how GOOD of a Monster Hunter game it is. Besides the facts it’s stuck on the 3DS outside of emulation it is (imo) the best Monster Hunter made yet! If you’re thinking about getting into the older games, 4U is definitely where to start!
I wanted to add some clarification for the statement at 5:16 about MH4U running at 60 FPS: MH4U is intended to run at 60 FPS ONLY on the New3DS, but most of the time it's around 45-55 FPS. Not an issue imo, it certainly runs very well and the framerate doesn't feel bad at all. On standard 3DS, the framerate is uncapped but it runs along 30-36 FPS, sitting at around 35 FPS when there's no action.
good video, spreading the word. but a small correction; 4u doesnt run @60fps on (stock) 3ds (sample size 5), but it does on n3ds. and 3u runs well above 30 even on stock.

4 days ago I got extremely lucky and was able to buy 3U and 4U at my local game shop, literally a block away. Playing through 4U now before I try 3U and go back to my roots (the first MH game I played was Tri).
I have 3U and 4U for years as physical copies for my 3DS, recently bought Generations that'll arrive between this week and next week and I own the digital version of Stories on my Phone, so I'm glad to have them all officially, especially the main games for the 3DS, I like collecting the physical forms
Was so glad to download 3U for both my 3DS and Wii U before the eShop died, plus the sale made it all the more sweeter! 2.99 for both, hell even got Gen for the 3DS at that price even tho I have it on switch. Though the date has gone and past, will loved these monster hunter games like they were my childre.
I find really incredible there are a great majority of english speaking people that, even to this day, still, they say "thai-grex" and "rahyou" instead of "tigrex and ryu".
Repaired my 3ds and got back my 1k 4u save file. I'm sad to see that eshop is closing down but at least citra exists so 4u will continue to live on forever.
what interests me more are DLC availability after the E shop shutdown. I have fantasy life and never got around to buy the dlc and i really still think its worth.

Monster hunter always intregied me ever since the Tri commercials. Later I would play the 4U demo and get my ass beat by gore when I tried the bow. It wasn't until 2020 when my friend got me to play GU when it went on sale on the eshop. It was awesome. I then played 3U and got stuck on G1, while my friends were being too lazy to get 3U. Then we blitz through 4U the month before rise came out. That was fun. Rise was fun and sunbreak is good too but it seems like capcom is dragging it out longer than it needs to be so to combat burn out I've been waiting every 2 title updates for sunbreak to go back. Maybe world and iceborne players felt similarly. I have world iceborne, stories 1 and 2, Tri and generations waiting on the shelf. I also got the wii u version and its downloads to play 3U online so when I go back to make the other weapons I main, I can go online to move up to fight Dire Miralis. Eventually I'll also get MH1 and then a PSP to play freedom 1,2 and unite.
Cut my teeth on the Franchise with Tri, then proceeded to play 3U and especially 4U pretty much to completion. Admittedly, I bounced off Generations not just due to burnout (since I played the previous games all pretty much back-to-back), but also due to a lot of the gimmickry injected into the combat system and, to be blunt, the _horrendous_ UI. It's the worst I've ever seen in the franchise as far as I've played them and it genuinely made it hard to engage with due to how janky and poorly-designed it was. Wold, conversely, felt like a complete 180 in that regard and has the best UI in the franchise to date, along with some of the most engaging combat mechanics and side-content yet, even compared to Rise. World is still my favourite of the franchise due to all the improvements it made to the formula overall, but I'll always have a soft spot for the older titles. I've not gone back to any of them for a while, but maybe now's a good a time as any, if this encourages people to go back and grab them while they still can.
Actually had no idea 3 Ultimate was still up considering how dead the multiplayer has been the last time I tried. That's awesome to hear that they're going to keep the servers up, especially since I've dropped an unhealthy amount of time into MH4U.
I think Generations Ultimate already replaces the need for Generations, same with Stories and Stories 2, but if someone still wants to experience the first game for some reason, sure
For anyone who knocks owning things physically because digital is easier or more convenient; things like this should always be a reminder and a lesson to you that your digital purchases and your cloud libraries are going to vanish at the whims of a corporation. If you can't touch the cartridge or the CD, there will be a point at which you can not play that game. We are right in the middle of watching Netflix, a previously incredibly profitable physical-to-digital platform hemorrhage money and publicly fail (on top of all the digital gaming platforms that have already failed). There are no too big to fail companies and they will all happily shed IPs and storage and cut corners, at your expense. Nothing is safe, nothing is sacred; none of these companies view their own products as worth salvaging at the end of the day. So if you love this stuff, if you value it, make sure you actually have it on hand.
A fair warning for anyone trying to set up MH3U on emulator - I've been going through the process recently, and it's a bit of a nightmare. Even once you get all the fixes right, the game still has massive issues, including frequent crashes, virtual SD card corruption, incredibly laggy cutscenes (only the prerendered ones) and a constant error about the circle pad pro disconnecting, though it doesn't seem to have any impact on gameplay.
I eventually managed to fix my issues. You need to keep your emulated CPU speed at 100%. I had it on 25%, since this vastly improves performance in most games. However, it causes issues in MH3U
Just like Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD.......why not do the same with Tri Ultimate and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for like the switch and ps4/ps5 for like an HD version?! Do like a generations ultimate and put in the monster hunter special arts like Adept and Valor and Striker and so forth. Add in the deviants and sub monster species, also add in playing as a cat(Palico Prowler) again please and add the older terrain maps and make the tri ultimate old online server put back on again. People still talk about the older server online multiplayer maps and would love for them to return. Great people and loving good wholesome communities from what i read and watched everywhere. Plus as a bonus add in monster hunter world monsters like Anjanth and pukei pukei as examples to tie in the world/iceborne players. And would welcome the familiar faces back
When I got my switch I got Rise, Gen Ult, and stories 2. After a while I bought 3U and 4U used but I haven’t gotten around to getting Stories 1 used or otherwise.
Anyone who only has world or rise (and wants to experience older style) should consider getting MHGU if you have a switch. The different styles are quite the experience and the game is amazing.
I have 3 on my Wii U, but haven’t played it in a long time. Really want to play 3 again, so I may buy for 3DS. Dunno why everything doesn’t just port over to Switch.
I think its disgusting how easily it is for games to get lost to time and technology. We have entire archives of audio, footage and actual physical documents saved over hundreds of years, we have huge buildings dedicated to collecting books of all kinds yet for video games its almost as if "who cares?" So many games ive spent hours of my life trying to get fuctioning on my PC because games to old and PC is too new. Ive spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds on consoles to be able to play classic games, but sadly the hardware dies out, lasers bust or the lids wont shut, faulty scart lead or dodgy wires, scratches on disks making the game unplayable. Its actually infuriates me while breaking my heart at the same time. I cant be the only one who finds it pathetic that these huge teams full of true artists spend years of their lives making such incredible experiences only for them to be left behind because tech companies couldnt seemily care any less about backwards compatibility. Its even more annoying how many people are desperate to pay full price for a game that already exists just to play it with prettier graphics, when in my opinion i dont think ive played a single remaster or remake that even comes close to the original experience.
I must have around 2,000 hours of playtime across all 3 of the mainline games, and compared to some other people I'm pretty sure that's on the low end of playtime. I played these back in middle/high school and man these games are amazing. YES, they ARE ALL worth getting if you're a Monster Hunter fan. Please do yourself a favor and purchase each game, not just one.
With my Wii u when i try to play monster hunter 3 it doesn't work it says, "This controller doesn't have the correct settings, use a controller with the correct settings or fix this controller" pls help
My WiiU may be busted (the gamepad thing is broke, I think it had a power surge during a thunderstorm), but I did not know about that save transfer app, have to get that one. Might as well get generations and its transfer app too despite the fact that I own GU.

I’ve had 4U for 8 years and I CANNKT stress enough how GOOD of a Monster Hunter game it is. Besides the facts it’s stuck on the 3DS outside of emulation it is (imo) the best Monster Hunter made yet! If you’re thinking about getting into the older games, 4U is definitely where to start!
I wanted to add some clarification for the statement at 5:16 about MH4U running at 60 FPS:
MH4U is intended to run at 60 FPS ONLY on the New3DS, but most of the time it's around 45-55 FPS. Not an issue imo, it certainly runs very well and the framerate doesn't feel bad at all.
On standard 3DS, the framerate is uncapped but it runs along 30-36 FPS, sitting at around 35 FPS when there's no action.
I actually just got a physical copy of 3 ultimate today.

but a small correction; 4u doesnt run @60fps on (stock) 3ds (sample size 5), but it does on n3ds. and 3u runs well above 30 even on stock.

4 days ago I got extremely lucky and was able to buy 3U and 4U at my local game shop, literally a block away. Playing through 4U now before I try 3U and go back to my roots (the first MH game I played was Tri).
I have 3U and 4U for years as physical copies for my 3DS, recently bought Generations that'll arrive between this week and next week and I own the digital version of Stories on my Phone, so I'm glad to have them all officially, especially the main games for the 3DS, I like collecting the physical forms
Was so glad to download 3U for both my 3DS and Wii U before the eShop died, plus the sale made it all the more sweeter! 2.99 for both, hell even got Gen for the 3DS at that price even tho I have it on switch. Though the date has gone and past, will loved these monster hunter games like they were my childre.
I find really incredible there are a great majority of english speaking people that, even to this day, still, they say "thai-grex" and "rahyou" instead of "tigrex and ryu".
Repaired my 3ds and got back my 1k 4u save file. I'm sad to see that eshop is closing down but at least citra exists so 4u will continue to live on forever.

MH Tri on the Wii with a Controller was so nice back then.

No kidding on that point about the prices. 3U is something like $30 or $40 on the eShop but most of the physical copies I can find are $120+
The best Part about mh before world the weapons don't look the same and Armor skills way more fun to play around (Personal opinion)
what interests me more are DLC availability after the E shop shutdown. I have fantasy life and never got around to buy the dlc and i really still think its worth.
If you don't mind being a pirate for a bit you can get dlc for free too

Monster hunter always intregied me ever since the Tri commercials. Later I would play the 4U demo and get my ass beat by gore when I tried the bow. It wasn't until 2020 when my friend got me to play GU when it went on sale on the eshop. It was awesome. I then played 3U and got stuck on G1, while my friends were being too lazy to get 3U. Then we blitz through 4U the month before rise came out. That was fun.
Rise was fun and sunbreak is good too but it seems like capcom is dragging it out longer than it needs to be so to combat burn out I've been waiting every 2 title updates for sunbreak to go back. Maybe world and iceborne players felt similarly.
I have world iceborne, stories 1 and 2, Tri and generations waiting on the shelf. I also got the wii u version and its downloads to play 3U online so when I go back to make the other weapons I main, I can go online to move up to fight Dire Miralis.
Eventually I'll also get MH1 and then a PSP to play freedom 1,2 and unite.
Cut my teeth on the Franchise with Tri, then proceeded to play 3U and especially 4U pretty much to completion. Admittedly, I bounced off Generations not just due to burnout (since I played the previous games all pretty much back-to-back), but also due to a lot of the gimmickry injected into the combat system and, to be blunt, the _horrendous_ UI. It's the worst I've ever seen in the franchise as far as I've played them and it genuinely made it hard to engage with due to how janky and poorly-designed it was.
Wold, conversely, felt like a complete 180 in that regard and has the best UI in the franchise to date, along with some of the most engaging combat mechanics and side-content yet, even compared to Rise. World is still my favourite of the franchise due to all the improvements it made to the formula overall, but I'll always have a soft spot for the older titles.
I've not gone back to any of them for a while, but maybe now's a good a time as any, if this encourages people to go back and grab them while they still can.
Actually had no idea 3 Ultimate was still up considering how dead the multiplayer has been the last time I tried. That's awesome to hear that they're going to keep the servers up, especially since I've dropped an unhealthy amount of time into MH4U.

I think Generations Ultimate already replaces the need for Generations, same with Stories and Stories 2, but if someone still wants to experience the first game for some reason, sure

For anyone who knocks owning things physically because digital is easier or more convenient; things like this should always be a reminder and a lesson to you that your digital purchases and your cloud libraries are going to vanish at the whims of a corporation. If you can't touch the cartridge or the CD, there will be a point at which you can not play that game.
We are right in the middle of watching Netflix, a previously incredibly profitable physical-to-digital platform hemorrhage money and publicly fail (on top of all the digital gaming platforms that have already failed). There are no too big to fail companies and they will all happily shed IPs and storage and cut corners, at your expense. Nothing is safe, nothing is sacred; none of these companies view their own products as worth salvaging at the end of the day.
So if you love this stuff, if you value it, make sure you actually have it on hand.

I put hella hours into 3 Ultimate on Wii U. 3 Tri was my first and still favorite MonHun, so getting to go back to Moga was a blast.
You can also play MHXX (the japanese verison of MHGU) on Citra, and add an English patch.
Someone should do a video of hidden gems for the shop besides the Monster Hunter titles. I’d like to see what’s there.

A fair warning for anyone trying to set up MH3U on emulator - I've been going through the process recently, and it's a bit of a nightmare. Even once you get all the fixes right, the game still has massive issues, including frequent crashes, virtual SD card corruption, incredibly laggy cutscenes (only the prerendered ones) and a constant error about the circle pad pro disconnecting, though it doesn't seem to have any impact on gameplay.

I eventually managed to fix my issues. You need to keep your emulated CPU speed at 100%. I had it on 25%, since this vastly improves performance in most games. However, it causes issues in MH3U
Capcom also loves putting their 3DS games on sale, so you can try waiting for a sale.

Just like Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD.......why not do the same with Tri Ultimate and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for like the switch and ps4/ps5 for like an HD version?! Do like a generations ultimate and put in the monster hunter special arts like Adept and Valor and Striker and so forth. Add in the deviants and sub monster species, also add in playing as a cat(Palico Prowler) again please and add the older terrain maps and make the tri ultimate old online server put back on again. People still talk about the older server online multiplayer maps and would love for them to return. Great people and loving good wholesome communities from what i read and watched everywhere. Plus as a bonus add in monster hunter world monsters like Anjanth and pukei pukei as examples to tie in the world/iceborne players. And would welcome the familiar faces back
I have the physical copies of all these games minus stories and regular generations, don’t forget physical is still a good option.
When I got my switch I got Rise, Gen Ult, and stories 2. After a while I bought 3U and 4U used but I haven’t gotten around to getting Stories 1 used or otherwise.
I don't have a 3DS anymore, but I'm tempted for 4 ultimate and generations.
Piracy is preservation, these games will live on.
They defintely deserve a remake. Especially Tri and 3U and 4U
Anyone who only has world or rise (and wants to experience older style) should consider getting MHGU if you have a switch. The different styles are quite the experience and the game is amazing.

let it be known generations ultimate does exist on the 3ds japanese only but there is an english patch and another mod to play with switch
I have 3 on my Wii U, but haven’t played it in a long time. Really want to play 3 again, so I may buy for 3DS. Dunno why everything doesn’t just port over to Switch.

I think its disgusting how easily it is for games to get lost to time and technology. We have entire archives of audio, footage and actual physical documents saved over hundreds of years, we have huge buildings dedicated to collecting books of all kinds yet for video games its almost as if "who cares?"
So many games ive spent hours of my life trying to get fuctioning on my PC because games to old and PC is too new. Ive spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds on consoles to be able to play classic games, but sadly the hardware dies out, lasers bust or the lids wont shut, faulty scart lead or dodgy wires, scratches on disks making the game unplayable. Its actually infuriates me while breaking my heart at the same time. I cant be the only one who finds it pathetic that these huge teams full of true artists spend years of their lives making such incredible experiences only for them to be left behind because tech companies couldnt seemily care any less about backwards compatibility. Its even more annoying how many people are desperate to pay full price for a game that already exists just to play it with prettier graphics, when in my opinion i dont think ive played a single remaster or remake that even comes close to the original experience.

I must have around 2,000 hours of playtime across all 3 of the mainline games, and compared to some other people I'm pretty sure that's on the low end of playtime. I played these back in middle/high school and man these games are amazing. YES, they ARE ALL worth getting if you're a Monster Hunter fan. Please do yourself a favor and purchase each game, not just one.
With my Wii u when i try to play monster hunter 3 it doesn't work it says, "This controller doesn't have the correct settings, use a controller with the correct settings or fix this controller" pls help

This is why digital only is a issue & Why they want to usher it in.
My WiiU may be busted (the gamepad thing is broke, I think it had a power surge during a thunderstorm), but I did not know about that save transfer app, have to get that one. Might as well get generations and its transfer app too despite the fact that I own GU.
Thats all good to know, I already got all the games last year. So I'm happy to get them before all this went down.
