Out of the classic Sonic characters that didn't make it to the Adventure era onwards, I think Nack/Fang had the most going for him. He showed up in what was pretty much the Game Gears Sonic 3 and he was a recurring character in 90s spinoffs including the comics. He had a few cameos in games like Tails Adventure and Shenmue iirc, he was even slated to appear in Sonic X Treme as a boss! Unfortunately he didn't make it into Sonic Adventure and while he was proposed for Heroes, he was left on the scrapyard with Gamma and Chaos and so on

I kept getting mentioning this character, whenever "Can You Fell a Sunshine" song got involved. To be quite honest, I'm really tired to see character becoming a Creepypasta Character (however, he's not as bad as infamous Sonic EXE). As for other characters, in Classic Era I want to see all missing characters from Sonic the Fighters back (that also includes Honey the Cat).
Yeah I remember playing sonic fighterz with my brothers. I miss those characters. Not as much as I like Shadow, Rouge, Blaze, ect but I do miss them. I think they could really benefit in world building if they kept these characters relevant. But at the same time there are many fans who want to keep it simple with the world and story. The PS2 version of Gems Collection was also available in Japan and technically that one is the better collection siince it has more unlockable Mega Drive games included.

There is no consistency as to why and when characters do or don't appear in games. Free Riders:No Omega Sonic Unleashed:most aren't there but more importantly no Knuckles. Sonic Forces:No Big or Cream. Sonic Team Racing:No Cream,Charmy, or Espio.
I mean, Charmy and Espio at least have a stated reason why they aren't in team sonic racing. They are running backgroundchecks while vector is investigating in person.

Having a evil father named Dr. Eggman, joining a group of robots that fight for good, and even have super forms too. Metal Knuckles also needs a comeback too.
