That is the most well-worn black belt I've ever seen, and I mean that as a compliment. Anyone who presents their instructions that well and backs it up with incredibly clean technique like this definitely has the experience to match the time-tested belt they're wearing.
Wonderful technique, excellent explaining of 'how & why', no issues with language and a really nice tone to the training. Looks like a great place to train in karate to me.
Im so tired of blackbelts who do not buy new black belt when it loses its colour, and become white... this fetisch I dont like. They want to give impression that they had this black belt in 10-15-20 years becouse they hate the thought that some body would think that they just got their black belt. BUY NEW BELT !
Rick Sensei has this way of just getting the points over in the clearest possible way - there absolutely no misunderstanding, it's genius - never known such instruction, utterly rare. Respect and OSS
As much as i love my late sensei, my current one(his son) and our dojo. I really wish i could train/learn under Sensei Hotton. Really admire this man. His passion for karate and aikido is second to known. I feel like i relate to him so much. Aside from similar personal life things, i also love karate and Aikido. Both are taught at my dojo, though not by the same Senseis. Love how you teach Karate with your knowledge and experience from aiki and blend them both together. I hope to train Aikido eventually and hopefully bridge them together.
@ 2.:20 it is almost as if you form a ramp with your structure to roll your opponents advance. Beautiful technique and control. This is an excellent video.
These takedowns in karate same price if I really wish I could have had done these type of things in my karate class in 2011 he would have helped bet that's the one in the it's all that anybody needs any it could save your life when you was completely you gotta move quick got to be faster and move much quicker if you want to overpower somebody or disarm them depends on how you move your body and how fast she can be in martial arts or any other form of skill 💪😉👍🥋
+Ignacio Buendía I briefly Studied Shotokan. I stop because I had to move, and the nearest dojo in my current town is pretty McDojo. but I found the 2 styles played together well enough. would you recommend any Shotokan books? I still practice some of the Katad on my own.
+Southpaw Moose Well, ive been training for two years now and I havent gone really in deep into karate books, I know i will but i dont have much time now 😳 what I do recommend you is to still practice kata and everything you can do at home, some day you will find a dojo that suits you
Southpaw Moose Well, when Funakoshi migrated to Japan, it was Jigoro Kano who helped him promote and spread the word about karate in the beginning. It stands to reason that they would trade knowledge and learn from each other. That said, FunaKoshi did implement, teach, and write books on takedowns, grappling, joint locks and such before leaving Okinawa.
Crossdownstreet And that's the reason why I see fat fucks with Black Belts all the time running MCdojos, because of this bullshit and softened mindset. A Black Belt must be the representative of both skill and experience, you can't have one without the other, you need skill to develope experience, and you need experience to sharpen your skills. Fat and unskilled people have no place or business in martial arts at legit Black Belt level.
Maybe there can be a bunkai for Naihanchi Shodan's last movement, with a long straight front arm to throw/punch and a short protective arm to block/hidden-attack/hold-arm-at-fall. What do you teachers think?
So very refreshing to see a youtube video of REAL karate coming from the us where there are unfurtunately so many charlotans, well done.
+Michael Brant Karate vs. Karate =REAL? It's Sport, please do not be angry;o)
indeed
+Southpaw Moose YEP;o)
@@scbullit04 Fight a real karateka on the street and you'll be dead

Good to see a karate-ka who "gets it". Good technique. No flashy moves.
One of the greatest instructors I've seen in any field

I would love to learn from this guy. he seems to have such a deep understanding of the techniques...

What a wonderful explanation
thank you sir God bless keep doing what you do
You are crazy and nice fighter ..
Oss! Hotton Sensei!
Great creative approach to the training of Masters!
Very good application, and the Naha-te in this technique is simply beautifull. Well done!
That’s genius the seems to be very effective against any opponent even a boxer or a kidnapper and I do exactly shotokan karate
Very nice demonstration of a very practical aspect of traditional karate. From another traditional karateka, albeit in a different style. Thanks.
Shotokan techniques sweep takedown more power foot spinning
I watched a few of Rick's video's now
- and they are really informative, well presented and have great structure.
Sensei Hotton i find your footage really inspiring. The way you work on your technique is faboulous. Congratulations.
Oss
Thankyou, Sir, for a great class on fluid takedown. Osu.
This can also work with some wrestling counters. I'm impressed and can't wait to learn this as well as wrestling too :D
This is so beautiful to me.
Speed, power, its all their, impressive I dont even take karate
Outstanding.
I am Karate,wow nice and aggressive takedowns .I am Colt Kara(GOJU RYU)...😃😀🤗😩👱
As long as he keeps his hands up in a real situation. He seems as if he can handle himself in a real encounter.
I love this. Awesome

judo has a move very close to this. I can tell you this works. well done.
A lot of judo sweeps are used in shotokan, we may not be judokas but we know a few fsst takedowns
+Ignacio Buendía I briefly Studied Shotokan. I stop because I had to move, and the nearest dojo in my current town is pretty McDojo. but I found the 2 styles played together well enough. would you recommend any Shotokan books? I still practice some of the Katad on my own.

Hirokazu Kanazawa has a book for kata! Or you can look for some books by the master himself, Gichin Funakoshi.

Fat and unskilled people have no place or business in martial arts at legit Black Belt level.
Try cross-training in Taijiquan, Baguazhang or Aikido and you'll see where he is coming from.
Great 👍🏼
I'm Godan in shotokan Ryu Karate I also study Japanese Jujutsu and Aikido
Present. OSS.
Sweep the leg

Sebastian Valle Iain Abernethy has some videos concerning bunkai for that kata on his channel, as well as DVDs on his website. Very interesting stuff.
Rohan Davey Thank you!
Sebastian Valle Anytime!
I see this in the beginning of han nidan/yondon. Switching back stance from left to right.
