- Опубликовано: 30 сен 2024
- This video was taped by Doug Champion at Chris Pennie's drum clinic on 05/25/06 at the New Brunswick, NJ Guitar Center.
I just recently (07/27/07) made this video public because of the other public clinic videos from different youtube users.
DEEESSTROOYYEERRRR
Ha I totally screamed it in my head while watching this
The single heaviest moment in music history and breathtaking to experience live
one thing pennie's drumming has taught me; hitting soft is just as important as accenting.
I don't even play the drums, but I can't stop watching these videos. Chris is amazing.
thank you for posting this. i hadn't listened to Dillinger in so long and then i just started listening to Calculating Inifinity and Under the Running Board again. at the time, Pennie was one of the top drummers in the hardcore/metal scene and he was just a spring chicken right outta college.
is it just me, or is he wound up tighter than a spring. In any case, the energy was amazing in that performance!
so clean...one of my favorite drummers
I love this part its so catchy if your a drummer
I never realized how busy the kick was in this part until this video.
Anybody else think that synth sounds mean as fuck?
why are they get him out :(
I don't know how legit this is, but I read online somewhere that Chris wanted to get rid of the "Destroyer" part because he didn't think the drum parts were technical/interesting enough for him. Too basic of a part I guess. That solo at the end isn't in the song. I guess he got bored hahaha
I was listening to Calculating Infinity today. I can't believe the jazz influence behind this beast. He hardly uses blasts, which is rare for such a band, but this guy just fucking kills it. I love it.
the only thing that i like about portnoy is all his odd time stuff, other than that his fills are so fucking lame and easy, it's not hard at all to do the kind of fills he does for the intro to "honor thy father" but everybody thinks THAT is so hard, that fill is one the most basic fills ever it's so simple....and his solo's are nothing i could play them in fact i should just learn one so i can post a video
Actually Gil wrote close to nothing with the band as of yet, although yes, by the looks of his diverse drumming roots (reggae, rock, metal), we can expect groovier, perhaps less busy patterns ^^
Still Chris Pennis, for me, represents 40% of DEP up to now, and I don't think we can really measure Gil's arrival's influence in the band's music as of yet.
Randumbly stumbled across this RAD vid!!! Checked the channel!!!
Totally got a SUB with the bell on!!!
All Pienne vids!?!?
Count me in!🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘🍻🍻😎🤩
mike portnoy isn't shit compared to any gospel chops drummer...there's a whole 'nother world of drummers out there...and vinny colauita, terry bozzio, and chris brien are way beyond him also
Imagine: Chris standing calm, someone scares him "BOO!" behind his back and the guy jerks and goes through a wall... heheh.... he looks so tight, just a hinge before a nervous breakdown (yet his drumming is fluid, melodic and oh so accurate)
Has anyone transcribed that groove starting at 0:17? kickass!
Unironically the GOAT
that blast at 2:45 is ggrrrgnarlified
hes in coheed and cambria now??
haha your a bit late man.
Sure - Clear heads are the transparent head, which give a fatter, deeper, low end thud sound, common in rock (tough they are used by many jazz drummers). Coated heads are usually white and give a rounder, thicker sound, more common in jazz (though many rock and metal drummers use them as well).
Don't worry I know I know...I think the songs where he said he had "more input" are "Dead as history", "Mouth of Ghosts" and "Horse Hunter" if I remember well. Anyways it's 6:30 AM here so I won't feel too bad if I later realize I'm wrong lol
What I meant about the 40% of DEP was that in general terms, Chris Pennie is almost half the band, not that he specifically wrote 40% of the music. He was definitely the main "component" of the band, that's what I meant to say, sorry about that.
I think pennie plus coheed will be interesting.... mostly because coheed has never had a drummer of this caliber. He'll crush the songs and the guitar wanking will have to keep up with the drums for a change :P
The toms and bass are usually tunes low, and the snare is pitched up, yes. Die Cast Hoops are thicker and stronger, and allow the drum to be tuned more evenly and with less overtones. Pearl is most popular for these.
custom drums are usually better since you can pick your sound out in the finest of details. But, they're much more expensive.
wow
agreed.
@bentheiburg He has a book called Polyrhythmic potential that has 5 songs (including Sunshine the werewolf) fully notated in the back of it. I just got it and looking at the notation makes me want to claw my eyes out because it's such a mindfuck to see it on paper XD
although Gil is very good, chris is just plain awesome, he has all the aspects of an amazing drummer. i think Gil is more like Chris' apprentice as of yet. chris is so fukin good
carey and pennie are both insanely good drummers but they have different styles so its kinda hard to compare. I hafta admit i was a carey fan long before i heard of pennie. BOTH ARE OUTSTANDING MUSICIANS WHO KNOW THEIR THEORY!
@DrMaximumChill ohhh yes his moeller is ridiculouslly tight
i wonder how he actually managesto write his songs though :P
the ghost noting on the snare and ride here are serious bitches to learn
damn you pennie and your godlike drumming
:D
@freetweak Jazz drummer? Why do you consider him a "Jazz drummer". He's just a good all-around drummer.
I am obssessed with this video for a couple of years now. Go join a real band Pennie, I miss you!
its not fair this guy gets all the tallent
@SpitFire301
the album's drums are amazing, wait till you hear them
@thepatrick1213 read the title buddy, called sunshine the werewolf :D
thats the fucking business!!
TheMuffinDance1 hell yeah mane
this is fucking sick drumming. i love this part of the song
Yeah. It all depends on the type of sound you want.
@StonersProductions Not when you say it like that.
The key of power IS to stay loose all the time. =)
@freetweak care to elaborate? I'm just curious
Good lord Chris Pennie is the shit!!
watching the fallout fly back up...
i love that part at @ 1:12 !
sick drumming
blast beat at 2:46 is so intoxicating
no prob man. Drums are my life.

@hugewolf666 So true dude.
What song is this????....
I like this guy's style.
Fuck, he is an animal!
@Colerosity that to
this guy is insane
saying "boss" is boss
Badassery to the max.
Underrated
Beast mode
absolute machine
i like this
First!!
@theSyringe you get this from this video? i see this stuff in drum solos by almost every drummer. cookie cutter chops that most drummers learn.
On the spot, Pennie.
As a battle of recorded drum performances, Carey would win.
But I like how you compare the two, because they are in my opinion the two greatest drummers ever. Mike Portnoy can eat my balls, I like Pennie and Carey because their whole thing isn't about being flashy like Portnoy.
Ticks and Leeches? Pennie being able to handle that? Probably, but likely without the same precision on the tom groove as Carey.
They both have strengths and...barely any weaknesses as drummers.
Destroyer.
