Blue Öyster Cult will return with a mammoth new studio album “The Symbol Remains“ on October 9, 2020. Coming nearly two decades after the release of their last studio album, “Curse of the Hidden Mirror,” the album showcases a band who hasn’t been slowed by the time passed, but simply unphased by it. “The Symbol Remains” is one of the band’s most spirited, diverse, and inspired releases to date.
The album will be available on CD, 2xLP, Limited Edition Color 2xLP, and Digital formats. Pre-order/save HERE: orcd.co/symbol...
As the old saying goes, “good things come to those who wait” and the 14 songs showcased on "The Symbol Remains" embody that. The BÖC faithful will be delighted given that the band has delivered an extremely inspired album. Ultimately, this sounds like a band looking back at their storied catalog and giving the fans a bit of everything they’ve ever loved about BÖC, while simultaneously continuing to evolve.
Blue Öyster Cult started sessions for the new album in earnest in 2019, bringing songs to the table that had previously been in the works as well as working on new ones. The goal was to craft an album that gives an appropriate portrait of where the band is in the here and now.
"With the song demos emerging for this record, we realized there was as much if not more variety in style and content on this record as any in our history,” tells Eric Bloom "We embraced this and the thing tying all the disparate elements together is the band’s sound and performance."
"The goal was for the new music to stand up to the quality and vitality of our legacy recordings, and I believe we have successfully done that,” adds Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser. “Other than that, the sound of our voices and style of our writing and playing can’t help but sound familiar to fans of our work."
“The album title, “The Symbol Remains” comes from a quote of an old Sandy Pearlman lyric, which basically we are using to show that the band is back and still rocking after all these years. To me, it means we’re still here and doing what we do...” explains Eric Bloom.
As fans well know, Bloom and Roeser are the two steadfast members remaining from the “classic" lineup of the band, but Jules Radino, Danny Miranda, and Richie Castellano are all long time members. Their constant touring has truly caused them to gel as a unit and you can hear it in the performances on “The Symbol Remains”. Jules, Danny, and Richie here have left their mark on the 50+ years of Blue Öyster Cult history.
"We wanted to record the current band’s lineup for some time and the result of Jules, Danny, Richie, Eric and myself giving our all on “The Symbol Remains” speaks for itself,” says Buck Dharma.
While the current world situation caused some distress, the band is still very happy with the final result. "The Covid-19 lockdown slowed the completion of the record. We were prevented from traveling and collaborating in person. But luckily we had already done the basic tracks. We resorted to video conferencing and producing each other over the internet. Fortunately, the technology exists at this moment in time to do that. The live performance cancellations gave us a little more time to carefully consider the finishing touches. We also sent the album out to be mixed by Tom Lord-Alge and we worked together over the internet on that as well,” adds Buck Dharma.
Formed on Long Island at the end of the '60s, Blue Öyster Cult are best known for their massive singles "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," "Burnin' for You," and "Godzilla." Riff-heavy and head-banging while intelligently hook-laden, the band remains a constant touring presence and as relevant as ever. Pioneering the heavy metal style while providing inspiration to psychedelic jam bands and arena rockers alike, genre-benders Blue Öyster Cult is a widely respected classic rock band with a storied catalog., The band has been covered by everyone from Metallica and HIM to moe, which showcases the wide ranging influence of their music.

I love how eric and buck dont feel the need to continually stand in the spotlight, but sometimes step down and let someone else shine. Love it
It really shows that they view themselves as part of a band, rather than that people follow them to only see them as Buck, Eric, and Co.
Great bands have this kind of depth on the bench. It keeps the sound from getting stale.
True professional... great music
true, but it's sure nice to see them in it. I heard Transmaniacon when it was released.
Eric and Doug are both in their 70's so they realize they can pass on in the next few years. It only makes sense to pass the torch to the younger members.
Richie Castellano is BOC's secret weapon and such a great multi-talent! So great to see Richie allowed room to sing lead on the new album in addition to producing/editing their new videos...speaks volumes about how cool BOC truly are. Looking forward to the new album!
I expect a lot more people showing up on Richie's Sunday shows now. I don't think he's much of a secret at this point. 🤣
Total secret weapon on multiple&myriad levels.Jules Radino packs some punch as well:)
You can tell Buck and Eric are just letting Richie embrace the legacy and run with it and boy oh boy is he doing a great job!
Yeah, I don't think I've heard him sing before, at least lead. Wow, this rocks.
totally agree
This is an incredible song. Gets better and better with each listen. Its obvious why Buck is so confident giving Richie so much space- the guy is exceptional.
So cool to see Richie absolutely kill it on this album!
Yeah you're right, my first impression was old timers are figuring out new decade but now I see how they rock it
In total agreement. It's not easy to let the younger folks shine. Kudos to Ritchie and to Buck/Eric for allowing him (and probably encouraging him) to let it rip.
You will be stupid to have a juvel like him in your band and not let it shine..!!
It really does, doesn't it?
Blue Oyster Cult has saved 2020... Now more cowbell to cure the fever!
Some may be suprised that BÖC new album comes with lots of titles with Castellano as lead singer / author / composer, some even might say "this is not "our" BOC !" (as there are always haters and grumblers).
I was a bit surprised too in the first look, but in second thought, THAT IS exactly what Blue Öyster Cult is.
The band has ever used all the talents of all bandmates, from the very first album and that's precisely one of the things that makes that band so unique. Every former member composed, wrote or sang in at least one album (check "Agents of Fortune" and "Spectres"songs to find out). And they widely use all members to create polyphonic vocals (Golden Age of Leather, and so on).
Ritchie is really a great singer, guitarist and that song is probably one of the best in the new album (with Alchemist). He brings some modernity to the band without betraying its original spirit and that's really cool.
WELL SAID!!
Wow! Lifelong BOC fan ( 63 yrs young) and super impressed 👍👍
Totally agree, fantastic new album. And just a huge bloomin well done to the band for producing this when hardly any other music has progressed or even been produced during these times.
Keeping the theme of multiple singers, multiple song writers is a smart move and a great thing in my opinion. Keeps their stuff fresh and unique as its always been.
BOC and vampires is a wonderful thing! Love the chorus line in this too!
For the ideal, timeless love!
Richie Castellano is a great composer, singer, guitarist, keyboardist, sound engineer !!!
A new, fresh, healthy, not tainted "blood" for the band !!!
A wonderful choice as a permanent member of B.O.C. !!! His collaboration with Eric Bloom on this song is marvelous !!!
Congratulations Richie !!!
Saw them this past weekend and they were great. Cant believe eric and buck are 76 and 79, blew my mind!
It's been a while since we got a vampire-themed song from BOC, and it's a ballad to boot.
I can dig it.
... there are more? Which ones, mate? :o Please, I need to listen to this stuff.
@@lsv47 The definite Vampire songs from the previous albums are "Nosferatu" and "I Love the Night" (both from SPECTRES), "Tattoo Vampire" (AGENTS OF FORTUNE), and "After Dark" (FIRE OF UNKOWN ORIGIN). Then you have songs that are in that vein - so to speak - but slightly more ambiguous, like "Screams" (Self-Titled Debut) and "Unknown Tongue" (CULTOSAURUS ERECTUS).
@@omniviewer2115 Thankee muchly, brotha.
RICHIE! HELL YES!
Excellent guys!
Buck remains one of the truly GREAT 👍 iconic rock guitarists of all time
I have played this extraordinary comeback album a few times now and I think this is the best track. Richie Castellano is the future and all BOC fans should appreciate his genius. Can't wait to see them performing this live!
What a great song and nice surprise!! Richie C. has been steeping in BOC classics for years so we could've guessed he'd present something like this. The band sounds superb, and the mix is outstanding, Thanks for bringing the magic again!
It’s absolutely criminal that BÖC isn’t in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
It's not against the law and it's not criminal.
Magilla Gorilla 😂😂😂
Who cares about a stupid hall of fame ?? Because they are not in is all you need to know about the stupid, phony sham that is !!!
@@gogoyubari366
It actually is - consult Section 666, Statute 2112 of the Crimes Against Rock Musicians handbook.
The RnR "Hall of Fame" is a Pathetic, Disgraceful Trainwreck. An Utter Abomination. Eff the RRHOF.
After this album came out I had to see them live. Caught two shows last year and they were fkn awesome!
Incredible song! Such a powerful one from Richie and Eric. Love how it builds until it explodes towards the end! Great guitar work from Buck, and Richie closing it out. And Richie's vocals are amazing. Can't wait to hear the two other Richie vocals..........
Wow I wasn't expecting this. But it was so needed and Ritchie as Lead Vocal "Chef's Kiss" thanks guys.
BOC Fans
This new album is fantastic
Let’s make some requests on your favorite rock radio stations
They deserve some AirPlay of the new music
It's all gettin' played on my radio "Rock For The Ages" (every Tuesday, 6 - 8 pm German time, noon - 2 pm EST US time). 'cause they are STILL great!
YES!! and tell the band we want to hear a lot of the new songs in the live sets
You’re Awesome
Where can you tune in?
I can't think of a single rock station I know that will play any of this. The "classic rock" stations only play the same old songs you've heard a million times. And the more "current" stations don't play music by older bands. It's why I don't bother listening to radio anymore. Damn shame that youtube is the only place you can find good music but it's better than nothing.
@@sunsin1592 try callling SiriusXM as that is what I am going to do tomorrow.
Love the fact the first three songs showcase three different singers, each song quite distinct in style. Looking forward to checking out the rest of the album. Welcome back, BOC!
And love how different but appropriate the two solos are in the song.
Thanks for all the years of tunes.
I'm glad this has finally came out.
Stay safe brothers.
I think this third song is the nail in the coffin........i AM ordering this album.
The first time I saw BOC with Richie, he had just taken over for Allen as the band's "utility player". Wasn't sure about him at first, but he grew on me as the show went on. Then they encored with Hot Rails with Richie on vox and it ruled. Been a fan of his ever since.
Sarzo was on bass then, right? I saw that lineup. Wasn’t initially taken with Richie, but he’s an immensely talented musician and a real asset to the band. I’ve come to appreciate him a great deal more over the years.
@@TheContrarianMedia i felt the same way and agree totally with you.
Ritchie is multi-talented!
And that,Ladies and Gentlemen, is how it's done. Welcome back guys. We've missed you!
Richie is the perfect fit in boc i have listened to boc ever since the early 70s and his vocals fit in great i was lucky enough to see the black and blue tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Richie is absolutely the right man to lead the band into the future, when Buck and Eric can't carry on. We're lucky to have him.
Glad to see Richie taking the lead on a song.
I saw BOC in Calgary about 15 years ago, not long after he joined the band. It was pretty clear why they had hired him. He added a lot of energy to the show.
BÖC is just as cutting-edge as they were when I first saw them live in 1976! Loving this new music, well done!!
Tainted Blood Is A Great Straight Up Killer Kick-Ass Song By Blue Oyster Cult And Totally Rocks It Needs To Be Fully Cranked Up All The Way To Full Maximum Volume.
Fuckin' weird that you capitalize every word. What's wrong with you?
@@drithligh I Like It...It's A Kind Of Art...!!! 😃👍
This song has such a great and memorable chorus...the harmonies and the hook are just great. I seriously would put this up with their best songs, it's that awesome
That's another great track from this album. These dudes are timeless. 🤘
Yes! Another vampire classic from the all-time classic band, BÖC!!! I love this.
Nice track and would not be surprised at all if Wasted Sunsets by DP influenced them when writing this. Enjoy the backing vocals as always since I became a BOC fan in 79 (Toledo Speedway Jam I). Good job guys and WELCOME BACK ON A NEW PROJECT!
Frontiers you have done it again...solid gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got "Agents Of Fortune" for Christmas in HS, have been fan since. This is an amazing comeback album. They haven't lost a beat. Bow down to the originators.
Richie does an excellent job here. I love how the "newer" members are getting a contribution in recording to add to an amazing legacy. This is a classic sounding BOC song, well done!
Keep that BOC vampire theme going thru the years. Great stuff !
Absolutely gorgeous! Great production... I didn't think I would hear such music produced again. Richie, an extraordinary voice and timbre! CONGRATULATIONS BÖC! I can't wait to see u in UK!
Thanks for this masterpiece, I can’t stop listening. Richie’s voice is spot on! 👏👏👏bravi!!!
Killer song an Richie singing ! Freakin awesome 🎸🎸
WOW!!!!! FINALLY Castellano "unleashed".......lol.......what a great song Richie's vocals fit this song like a glove sounds like the new album is a real winner props to Eric and Buck and the rest of the band
I'm seriously digging on these new BOC songs.
Rumour has it that two are even better than what we have heard so far ...
_Such a phenomenal album!_
Been a *BÖC* fan for decades, and it is criminal that I only discovered the new album this week! 😳 But I'm so glad I did!
Richie nails it with the group. Welcome back b.o.c. This album didn't disappoint me. The album cover is true blue oyster cult style.
Awesome! Nice to see Richie singing lead!!! Looking forward to this album.
Feels like being back in 1987. Hairy as hell. Amazing tune.
I know it is a cliche but B.O.C. is back!
been a BOC addict since ::cough:: their first album...still have it and all the others after it...and the CD's to match. Have the new one on order...I'm and oldie and they're still goodies... ;D
Awesome! BOC was the first concert I saw. It was1979 with Blackfoot and Nazareth. I've been a huge fan ever since.
Edit: I just looked it up. It was actually 1978 at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg, Mass.
Cult was on fire in 78. With Nazareth and Blackfoot that must have been an awesome show.
Damn! I had no idea that BOC released an album in 2020, let alone that it had bangers like this on it. Richie definitely has the pipes to stand with giants like Eric and Buck. Considering that they are in their mid-70's, Eric and Buck both look great, but Buck looks like he might have a painting of himself in his attic that must be protected from any harm.
A wonderful song fronted by an amazing voice. A great talent with a volume voice with emotion.
Wow...absolutely love this. The mighty Oyster Cult are back.
Outstanding , amazing ....... nearly 50 years on and still blowin' them all away.
Richie is a beast, saw him sing lead on Last Days of May last year live. Crushed it. Holds his own on a stage full of badassness.
Rich the Ancient Metal Beast.
So much great, my fav band of all the time
These guys always have such a great guitar tone
New BOC always a treat, diggin' it already.
Omg!! There is really nice to listen Richie as a lead singer!!
Quintessential BOC. Tainted Blood. Wow. Never thought I'd feel sympathetic towards a vampire.
the single of the new album are killer can't wait to listen more i pre-order this album and i don't regret
That was a very meedly meedly outtro there, Richie! The power ballad lives on!
Total early 80's Scorpions ballad vibes. Great song, great album, great band!
BOC has more than gained immortality! Hell yeah! Love it! DR's swiss cheese guitar is too cool!
Richie is in Band Geeks as well, they just toured with Jon Anderson, Richie was a great Chris Squire on bass and vocals. LOVED IT!!!
Great vocals by Richie!
Great song and album. Their music is so timeless
THe tune is solid and I LOVE BUCK'S SOLO
It's a good song for sure and nice to see Richie take centre stage as he is a very accomplished musician and now into his 16th year? with the band.
Need to hear it within the context of the album because it's not quite dark enough to reflect the BŐC legacy in my opinion as a stand alone track. But yes way past time for a new album and for Richie to stamp his mark on the band. It shows some bravery/progression from the old boys in the band too, which is always welcome.
Awesome. I’m really looking forward to the new album. Already preordered
Well we have known what a great talent Richie is for a decade and a half now, but this puts him on a new level now. I have seen him sing very well on Joe Bouchard songs like Hot Rails and Morning Final but I didn't know he was this good. And BOC's backing vocals continue, after 5 decades, to be the best in the business.
I love music that comes across with a serious message and i love music that is pure honest entertainment. BOC are still absolutely the king's of legendary entertaining rock music with the perfect amount of occultism to be cool as fuck and not annoying
Richie slayed this song - he's BOC to the core!
Nice, yummy old-school ballad, bravo guys!
For sure on Air of Rock Melodic Radio!!!!!!! Thank you BOC, thank yoy frontiers!!!
LOVE ME SOME Blue Oyster Cult ~ LOVE THIS BAND ~ Grew UP with this band!
Diggin' the song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, this is a BOC song. Full of harmonies and cool guitars.
OMG that was awesome! Go Richie! Rounded off with the classic Buck/Bloom harmonies. Great tune!
This is seriously one of my favorite BOC songs ever. And just in time for my vampire sonnet's playlist. This is so good.
Fantastic Song - I love BOC really!
Quelle magnifique chanson, bravo Blue öyster Cult !
Great song 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Richie is a great vocalist. BOC IS SO AWESOME 👍👍👍
Three straight instant classics from the new album (so far) with Richie simply killing it on this one, and a nice little solo by Buck in the middle - like the good old days!
Love this song. Defonately a nice new twist on BOC they haven't used before at all and it works out fantastically! Keep it rolling guys!
Awesome to see another Album from BOC You guys Rock
ok i just found out that these guys are doing their 1st album in 2 decades and i'm shocked by how good the songs are
Nice post, Sir! This man is a very passionate player/singer-songwriter and a great long time member of BOC in their tradition of having top musicians as part of their act. Especially see his performance at the Allen Lanier tribute at BB Kings, NYC in 2016. Nice job sir. DEC 2020 FL USA
nice lyric & melody......
Tainted Blood Is A Great Straight Wonderful Killer Kick-Ass Song By Blue Oyster Cult And Totally Rocks It Needs To Be Fully Cranked Up All The Way To Full Maximum Volume.
That was awesome!
Essentially every song on every album is always a hit when it’s Blue Oyster Cult. Can’t say that about very many bands. It is just automatic to me! The wait for “ The symbol Remains” is nearly over. Fire it up!
EGADS!! THEY LIVE!!! Awesome work as usual.
Well this is a change up pitch for sure.... great guitar work and powerful vocals guys... sounds fresh with a strong touch of the old BOC style. Somewhere Allan Lanier is smiling ... I'm sure.
Sing it Richie! No stopping him with creativity and adding to the band's sound. So cool.
Good tune. So far BOC seems to be going toward a Spectres-type release here, with characteristic eclecticism. Love it.
The only CD I have purchased in...a LONG time.
Richie works well with Buck's style. sweet
The baton is passed and the wicked ride continues. Thanks BÖC!
Really like this song. Has hit written all over it.
Great song...Love that big chorus. Kickass solo by Ritchie!
