@women supremacy ( men can fck themselves ) Ok, so you think that no one else is busy in that class then? I was in school full time while also being the sole provider of my household. I had to take care of my disabled mother, my underage brother, and a dog. My commute was over 2 hours to Boston. But guess what? I still went every single day, and on time. I had a daily battle with anxiety/depression while I was a student and even considered taking my own life because I would wake up every single day without my situation improving. I had too many people depending on me at the same time. I had no room for errors. My mom's child support was expiring in 2019 (2 months before my anticipated graduation date) and my college job wouldn't have been enough to support 3 adults, a dog, and a mortgage. This is the life of many college students. We're all poor. And everyone is dealing woth their own problems when they come home. Life events don't stop while you're in student status. My grandmother died mid-semetser and I had to mourn her death within 2 days. I also got in a near-fatal car accident and totaled my car. I also had a painful lower back injury that took over 5 months to recover and I would cry everytime I had to bend over and put on my shoes. All these events occurred while being a full time student.
It's not fair for the professor to give some students special treatment. Then the students may notice and call the professor out on favoritism, neopitism, having unprofessional relations w/ students, etc.
if she's THAT busy, then she should apply to online school instead. Or not enroll in school at all if she can't make the time. When I was in school I didn't have the option in working full time due to a heavy workload. And no, social media influencing and acting in a tv show is not the same work as manual/physical labor. Also find it annoying that this actress took away someone else's spot who would have appreciated their enrollment in the course she flunked out on. There is a clear difference between students who actually want more than a degree, and actually want to learn from their professors. If you are the type of person who can teach yourself, just purchase the goddamn book on Amazon or something! Because your tuition is paying your teachers' salaries.

We did have people who rly needed to work alot aside of college hence often unable to attend it all on which professors/assitents would basically tell them "Well, you need to choose between your job and college"..which seems shitty considering some rly have no choice, but it is how it is.🤷‍♀️

I don't know though because if the policy of the college is that if you are not in attendance for a certain amount of time, that would automatically constitute as failing. Taking a final won't change that. That's how my community college was, so if she went to an actual uni, I'd imagine they'd be ever more strict. If that's policy, and she broke policy, they can't do anything in her favor because she should've been in class. It's not fair that she got the option of catching up on her own pace, being able to make money and pursue an interest while the other kids were forced to be in class, missing shifts and opportunities. Think about it from their perspective and you'd be annoyed, too. Sure, she's paying to attend, but so are they and it's totally not fair for them to have to pay all of that, and someone else gets a pass because they're an aspiring actor. Think about the kids that work full time, while being a student full time. She gets to pass on class, to fulfill a dream, but they can't pass on class to make sure their rent is paid and their fridge is stocked? That is extremely one sided. It's dumb that college still has attendance requirements when they preach about adulthood, and how everything is digital nowadays, but again, policy is policy.

But they have to be in class, by policy because it's mandatory, missing out on their own opportunities and shifts? She gets a pass because she might make it in Hollywood, but they have to be in attendance, when they could be making more money to gurantee their rent is paid and their fridge is stocked? That is unfair. Sure, she is paying, but she also went against policy. That being that if you miss a certain amount of lecture hours, you automatically fail. They're paying, too, and they don't get the luxury of being able to catch up on their own time and pace. It is unfair. If y'all were in that class, y'all would be annoyed, too. You guys never want to see the perspective of all sides. Just go straight to "those hard working college kids, are jealous because the pretty girl is making it in Hollywood! How dare they request fair treatment of policy follow-through and enforcements!"

We had something called "Due Performance" at my university. You had to have over 80% attendance, hand in all your assigments and pass tests and pass your exams to be given a pass. If you didn't obtain your dp you couldn't write the exam. So your final marks for the course were an aggregate of everything, not just the exam. It ensured you worked for the entire course. It's also that there were too many failures from people not attending lectures etc which affects the university's rating.

This story doesn’t sit well with me but i agree if you have a full-time job and trying to balance school, exceptions should be made but im surprised no one had told her. I’m sure the professor or someone had it on paper (email, etc) that she was not allowed to take the exam or their position would have been jeopardised. Something is missing from the story. Also college kids are not high schoolers anymore. If a kid is being given exceptions, even though it sucks, no one is tattling to the professor all their grievances and expecting them to get their way. If the story is true, it might have been that they told her it’s unfair to the other students for her to receive full credit when the other students have been putting in much more work in class. I did not like how she presented the other students as the issue to her being denied the credit. You choose to work. You either discuss the situation beforehand with your professor or take full responsibility.

    • @dorixoxoxo
      @dorixoxoxo Год назад +4

You are Absolutely right. Some Classes also have different way of giving credits, like the final exam must be 60% of your Grade, how active you are is around 20%, projects + homework 20%, on which you are required to attend 75% of the Seminars (not lectures). It’s just one example, and it’s the right to the Professors and the law department of the university to make those rules, there are many different ways of combining those. If this was the case , and she was there to only take the exam but wanted full credit then she is just narcissist. There are Students who are working full time, and showing up for every class, so if she wanted special treatment then the professor should let those other students have the same treatment. Her story lacks a lot of information it sounds based. If the professor did something that was not allowed she could have complained, and problem solved but it looks like the professor was right, because she is complaining in the internet about it.

Im of the option that attendance shouldn’t be necessary as long as they’re present for presentations, mandatory lectures, and test while maintaining passing grades. BUT since we already paid for it, how come the university cares so much if students attend classes or not? Is it going to affect the reputation of the uni even if students can pass the exams? I am genuinely curious because I am an international student studying in the UK. Attendance is particularly crucial for foreign students since that is the only reason we get to stay in the country. However, that is not really the case for Home/ UK students. I thought the US would be the same.

Damn that sucks. I feel for her, and I know how hard and how much effort goes into college. The teacher should’ve been clear from the start then if it was an issue. My college was you miss 3 classes you can be dropped.

I has something similar happen to me. I was struggling with an illness and missed a lot of class. I was still getting straight A’s and taking my work seriously but in the end they didn’t allow me to graduate.

I was in all AP classes and didn't fit in. Back in the 70s there actually were nerds. I majored in girls and cutting classes. The kids in one of my advanced science classes accused me of cheating. In my case the teacher knew me. So he had me move my desk next to his while taking tests. I aced them and that ended that. There were VERY few teachers I had any respect for. I should add I was a professional actor. Between the ages of 3 and 15 I'd done over 500 stage performances with two Broadway road companies, commercials, print work, movies and voice overs. I know teachers in elementary school resented me and some felt threatened by me. And I was and still am quiet and never been a show off. I was also onto how many teachers were only a chapter ahead of us in the book. I tended to be more knowledgeable than most of my teachers so I just kept quiet so I wasn't on the radar.

This is why 90% of classes in aussie unis dont care about attendance. As they said in my 1st year "youre adults now we are not gonna babysit you" i basically never attend class anymore becuase of the commute and im still passing.

Same thing happened to me. Film School. Did all the work. Went above and beyond helping other class mates. Then when it came to the crunch, the last two weeks, the other students threw a hissy fit and tried to hijack my film. Even the teacher who I thought would help, stabbed me in the back. Many months later I’m hearing the same thing with DEI and people in the industry.

When I was in college half the teachers didn’t care if you showed up at all and the other half had a very strict “you miss this many days you are kicked out policy”. One of my teachers it was two days. I ended up staying 5 days in the hospital and missing two days of her class but I immediately emailed her the day I got sick and said I would have a doctors note. Next class I arrived at she said she didn’t care about my doctors note and I needed to leave because I was dropped from the course.

Wtf ok so if the course required a certain level of attendance to pass, then that should be clear on the syllabus from day 1. That’s not something the prof can decide on final exam day just to spite her and waste her time and money (because yes, some courses have that. My masters program didn’t allow more than 2 missed classes without approved justification).
If attendance is not a clear requirement from day 1, it is not the prof’s right to deny her the opportunity to take the exam. She’s paying tuition. If 100% of the course grade is based on the final only, then it’s her problem whether or not she understands the material well enough to pass. Sure, the other students are working hard, but that doesn’t mean she’s not studying too. If she studied hard enough on her own to pass the exam, despite barely attending class, then no one can say she didn’t work hard in learning the course material. In fact, she should be applauded for being able to achieve success with so much on her plate.
If she was a regular person who never attended class, but still took and passed the exam, no one would notice or care.
I absolutely would have filed a complaint with the school.
