I don't think I understand what's happening in this production, what's the deal with those belts and the weird clothes.. But Kaufmann's singing is mesmerising regardless.

Je viens d'écouter le même air chanté dans une version 2001 de Turandot à La Scala, donc en principe une bonne qualité d'opéra. Eh bien il y a un gouffre entre les deux vraiment ! Jonas Kaufmann, en plus de la beauté de sa voix, exprime tellement de sentiments à travers ses gestes, son visage et la modulation de sa voix, que cet air prend tout son sens dramatique chanté par lui... ça me touche l'âme !! Alors qu'en écoutant l'autre version je n'ai pas frémi d'un cil! Et je suis sûre d'être impartiale malgré mon admiration pour Jonas ❤❤❤

Very beautiful aria indeed.Liu was in love with Calaf since the day he smiled at her.But now he tells her to help her master and to follow him.For he may never be able to smile again to any other girl thus he is completely obsessed with Turandot.I think that the scenography is very beautiful with the strings that mean trying to retain him.They must have decided very well the movements and the.pace.Its specially difficult for Jonas because he's singing too.The master is interpreted as a blind man to emphasise his disabilitie and need for care.I think it's all very romantic and the black colour goes well with the complicated situation thus Liu and his master believe they'll be persued and die.Very good singing by Jonas.I think it's wonderful.
