@@mastertochi101 yes maybe it was just my marine corps experince (2002-2014) in basic and AIT there was bits of racism from inside the units but mostly from the guys in your direct unit not leadership but there might be a variation in experience but from my memory it was all jokes
I went to Fort Sill Oklahoma for BCT in 2012. In reception our showers were in a big room with shower heads (no dividers, curtains, etc). I would shower after lights out because I wasn't comfortable showering in front of people I don't know. I would also get changed in the bathroom stall.
Last year before the pandemic, I talked to an Army National Guard recruiter because I was interested in a job in the culinary field but it required enlistment. I met with the recruiter and just gathered general information because I was kind of going into this not knowing much tbh. One concern the recruiter did have was my height (I'm 5'2") and the fact that I still take medication for seizures despite being seizure free for 13 years. So needless to say because of that, I didn't qualify. Probably just as well too. If I did qualify. I probably would have been stuck on some Army base in quarantine.😷
Yeah, seizures are taken seriously since this is something very unpredictible and the army cannot guarantee that they will be able to provide the specialized medical care should your condition suddenly deterioriate. Also, there are many things in military service that could trigger the seizures or make them worse - loud noises, sleep deprivation, exhaustion, flashing lights, psychological stress...
Join the Army soon. Was a Corrction Officer for 4 years. Had to do strip searches, see people shower all the time, and had to watch people piss for drug test. Don't think I'll care that much in basic.
Now I took BCT in 1970, Fort Jackson, old wood barracks from WW 2. Real firetraps, but the worse thing was there were no little walls between the toilets, shitting next to someone took some getting used to.
With my experience we had showers with dividers like you see in a public restroom. We also were not allowed to change in the bay area but many did not follow this. One time the female barracks got caught and were smoked in front of everyone for an hour. Fun times.
30th Med BDe policy required barracks inspections every day, with company inspections once per week, and battalion inspections once per month. By the time, they implemented this, i was PCSing to Walter Reed where i don't have to stay in the barracks thank goodness.
As for medical, if you need to go to sick call, depending on your first line or your first sergeant, they don't ask specifically why. They really just need to know for accountability purposes.
Back in ‘91~’97, they always asked “why?”. You had to give a good reason, and sometimes show them what you needed treated, before they let you go to sick call. You had to have a serious issue. We had a man in the field confined to his cot with a 103 fever. The command had the field medic take care of him, instead of sending him to the rear area for treatment.
@@extremesheepdawg6379 The reason why that isn't done today is because most commanders are not medical providers (unless you're in a medical brigade or the hospital) so they legally and ethically cannot make that determination on if the soldier's condition merits them going to sick call. They cannot be denied medical treatment. If they are, however, found to be malingering (frequent visits with absolutely nothing wrong with the soldier), they can and most likely will face punishment.
You don't NEED to be fit but I highly recommend it. The more in shape you are the more easier it will be. Training will get you to basic levels of fitness, but you can still fail and possibly get recycled if you don't pass the final test. So I'd say work on that primarily and be willing to take orders, in other words have thick skin don't let shit get to you because it will, however you need to handle it within yourself.
