    I played drums for nearly 10 years (self taught) and this was so cathartic to watch. I played alone mostly since I never really knew any other musicians in my area (fairly rural area). Anyway I never told people I played drums for many years since I exclusively played an electronic kit. We lived in an apartment so a regular kit was out of the question. Lol But I stopped playing some time back (after I went off to college and meat other musicians), because I got tired of playing alone AND other musicians telling me I wasn't a real drummer. I know it's foolish to give up something you enjoy because of what other people say, but I have to be honest hearing people tell me that over and over just got to me over time. Now (after some years have gone by) seeing you jam out like this on this kit has reignited the passion! Thanks for posting this! You really showed off how awesome and fun an e-kit can be. Thanks again for the re-inspiration!

      Never listen to other people's negativity. Whether you play along with songs or not doesn't make you any less of a drummer just because you didn't play with other musicians.
      I was a trumpet player when I was younger. I've played in front of more people than some of these local bands and I only played for 3 years. I moved onto bass, but haven't played in a band or with anyone else since.
      Granted, my skills on bass suck as I haven't put the time into getting better at it. I could pick up the trumpet again and play it. I still remember how to because I learned so young, it's hardwired into my brain.
      I focus on sound engineering at this point. It's what I do for a living. Mixing live bands is more interesting for me than playing on a stage in front of people at this point of my life.

      @@acidstorm001 Thanks. I've return to jamming alone and I forgot just how immensely tiring and enjoyable drumming is. Luckily I kept my old e-kit, but thanks again. That's why I said it was foolish for me to stop, BUT I did have to acknowledge that was how felt at the time and the reason I stopped. Trumpet?! BTW? Wow I always had mad respect for people who could play any kind of horn. The breath control alone. Lol. I have no clue how you all do it. Engineering sounds pretty cool as well. I'm glad you can still do music (technically.😉) and make living doing so.

    • @chriscoray
      @chriscoray 2 года назад +7

      I can't give exact dB, but it's not crazy, ~~maybe ~65 dB range?~~ Correction: I tested, it's 87 dB. Louder than a wood & rubber practice pad, probably 50% more, but that's still not very loud. I bought an Alesis kit when I lived in an apartment. The bass pedal was still a bit noisy on the floor (because METAL), but I wasn't worried about the pads/cymbals. Mine has the mesh heads which are very quiet, but I've played a few Roland and Alesis hard kits and they sound a bit like a Rock Band kit, just lower tones because the pads and cymbals are thicker and higher quality than the toy. Playing a standard quarter/eight/sixteenth rhythm on the rubber-coated hi-hat/crash sounds like a standard metronome, if that's an accurate comparison. For recording/streaming, the rear 1/4" jack is super easy to connect up, right now I'm running mine with an XLR converter into a loudspeaker, but I've also just plugged straight to my mixer. There's also the midi option, which at least with the Alesis works well, and probably does with this kit. I use mine for practicing with Melodics. For streaming, you can hook a foot pedal mute switch up to the mic so it doesn't pick up the acoustic pad sound, if that's a concern.

      Since learning that David Draiman trained as a classical cantor, I've understood there are some very gifted musicians, with very sensitive souls, in heavy metal.
      I dunno, seems to me that generosity of spirit, humility about one's own talent and the cheerful demeanor that you clearly have doesn't line up with the satanic image most people ascribe to heavy metal players. Seems to me, metal musicians are more than the image.

Sounds great, I didn't catch any missed notes, and for the money, on sale on amazon currently comes with a base peddle and throne which the Roland kit doesn't which means not only is the Roland kit $200+ more you also need to buy your own peddle and throne driving the price even higher. Now I haven't touched a drum since the early 90s so dropping a grand or so on a kit I have no idea if I can even still play was a no go.

    Dude this is what i needed. I havent been very motivated after taking lessons for 7 years, but my kit at home is a shitty old ass e kit wich has just started getting worse and worse. Its impossible to build it like a real kit because of the rig, and the drums have shitty plastic like heads, when i hit the ride, the ride sound is there, but there is also a little sound of the kick. And when i hit the kick, it glitches sometimes and makes 2 kick sounds. The snare is horrible too, because when you hit in the middle it almost makes no sound, but when you hit in the edge its way to loud. And yes, i have tried to turn up the snare volume, but the module is way too dumb for that. When i try to practice to the build in metronome, it randomly starts playing an in build song out of no where at fucking 250+ bpm. The drum sounds also sounds like a 10 bucks hello kitty from kit from Walmart. I hope you enjoyed reading about my shitty E kit.

    OK dude. I saw a little bit of this video in the review videos on amazon for this product and I came here to tell you that you are both hilarious and extremely good. Your ability to flow through all the genres is amazing. Your reaction to each switch was so funny especially when you went loose and found some techno beats, but I lost it when you went off on the Chinese setting. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
    Great video my friend. I subscribed.

    Alright you've pretty much sold me on this. I recently moved into an apartment building so I can't just jam whenever I want so I've been looking for a decent low buck electric set just to mess around on & this one is definitely seems the nicest for the price. Thanks for the review. OHH YURRR!!!

    thank you so much for the double pedal demo, some of these cheap kits cant even register that many fast hits with the double pedal and most youtubers dont even try double-pedal. good to see this one does handle double kick well!, dont really care about the on-board module sounds, plugging it into the PC and loading up Superior Drummer or GGD is always best

    Love the video my dude! 🤣👍 I've been watching your channel for years, but just now got into playing drums (I'm a guitar guy). This video almost swayed me to get the Donner, but I ended up with the Alesis Surge for the same price. It was really a crap shoot (.....) which one I chose, they seem to be nearly identical. Ohhhh, yurrrr.

    Recently saw Herman Li give a review of a Donner guitar (I used to play drums many moons ago). Never heard of them before. Review was awesome bought the guitar and have been learning to play. Now I see they make drums as well. And again an awesome review by someone awesome. Sign me up for kit!!
