Who needs a drain off for the cylinder when you could drain it through the cold bath tap anyway. Should have teed of for the cold supply to bathroom above outlet of cylinder to prevent this
Running a cold bath tap does not drain a hot water cylinder 🤦♂️ These flats are fed from massive communal water tanks on the roof of the buildings and when they were built, they have ran one cold supply to each flat which does the cold to the cylinder and the cold to the bathroom. There is no way of running a dedicated supply to each service and the head pressure is very good so wasn’t actually required anyway 👍
@@justaplumber If one turns off cold water feed to cylinder which is also connected to cold feed at bottom of cylinder then there is nothing to stop the flow of water going into reverse going back out of the bottom and through the pipes and out of the cold bath tap. Makes life very interesting if at some future point the plumbing in bathroom needs to be altered or taps changed
@nickcollins7568 - I see your point but with check valves up the line, running taps wouldn’t syphon the cylinder out. In an ideal world, it would be nice to rip it all out and start again but with shared down services, combined vents and shared water mains, it’s just not very feasible. Ultimately I was just there to do a cylinder swap, the pipe work has been in like that for many years and there is about 70 flats in the complex that are all piped up the same and everything works fine. There is valves on all pipework to make isolating individual outlets possible and taps can be easily changed.

you're drawing off top of cylinder ....cannot drain down unless drain cock at bottom or siphon off
