- UPDATE: I have a new resin jar video using a different mold here: • If You Need a Hexagona...
Recently in one of the many Facebook resin groups I inhabit, I saw someone post about making jars from resin, and screw-on lids to go with those jars. I was seriously intrigued! So I hopped over to Amazon and ordered up what seemed like a possible mold, and here it is for us to try out! I will freely admit that the alcohol ink gods laughed and laughed till they were kind of green in the face.

I love Swirls! Mostly swirls of color, but really any swirls at all - I think they add a beauty and grace to everything. So after I started making soap a few years ago, and needing some sort of biz name that didn't sound like everyone else's version of suds-r-us, I decided on Luxinda Swirl. Luxinda is a twist on my real name, and I quickly started putting swirls of color in all of my handmade soaps.
Now I'm branching out a bit, and I want to keep adding swirls to everything I do!
I just watched someone else pour a couple of these jars and they sprayed the molds with mold release first, and they had a much easier time removing the jar from the mold.
I just got this mold so I'm glad you showed a video of it
I love the jar and also the color mixture. You made me want to start doing resin crafts. Love from Asia!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!!
I made several jars for Xmas gifts and did them all in 1 pour. They came out great.
Excellent! Thanks for the feedback!
Anyone who hasn’t seen how alcohol ink and resin react to one another needs to watch this.
I love it & all the sparkle 🎉👏👏👏💜
Thank you!!
I was looking for a mold not the thing you made, but the mold itself, the silicone cover for a mason jar. To keep it from cracking where do you find them? I've heard them called jackets or sleeves? What do you call them
Something like this?

@@Luxinda Hi. Did you send me a link? because If so, I can't click on it for some reason?
@@dianeibsen5994 Hi, I didn't actually send you anything (I guess RUclips did), I put the link here in the reply I added to your original comment on my video. If you are in RUclips, and return to the video where I made the jar from resin, look in the Comments section at your comment, then you should be able to see my replies and click on the link I included.
Have never seen or heard of a resin jar mould! Its so cool...
So far, I haven't seen a lot of people making these, so I think these molds are relatively new.
Where can I find it
@@lovekey3115 , you can find this jar mold here: amzn.to/2LpkCDu
Thanks for watching!
"The test of strength" 😂 I love your personality.. thank you for sharing... and you won!
Thank you!!
I don't know if you used mold release spray before molding. That might help.
Thank you!! I do, although I often forget to mention it in the video. It definitely helps, but some of these deeper molds just like to put up a struggle 😁
Hi there! Are you able to use this jar for candle making purposes?
Hi! That is a great question. I would guess probably not, only because a burning candle, when the wax melts and the whole thing gets pretty hot, is most likely going to heat up the resin too much. The resin I use most (KS Liquid Stone) is rated up to 500-degrees F, but that’s more of a coaster with a hot cup set on it situation vs the prolonged heat of a burning candle. Long-winded way of saying I don’t think it would be safe. Thank you for the question!!
VERY cool! I’m trying this!
Have fun with it!😁
Spray a little rubbing alcohol in the mold. it will release the resin from the mold easier
So it takes a whole 8oz of resin for one jar?
Yes, that is for both the jar mold and the lid mold combined
My favorite jar❤❤
I like this, I could make one and give as a gift to my ma or aunt for the kitchen to organize... thank you for this!
Sure thing! Thank you for watching!!
🎶 _So flippin’ coooool!!!_ 🎶
Love your enthusiasm! I also think it’s cool 😁
Thank you!! 😁
What an awesome mold! I need to add it to my cart.
Go for it!
Do you have a video on making the mold for the lid?
I’m not sure I understand the question- this jar mold actually came as a set with a bottom mold and a top mold, and I poured resin in both molds in the video. At least I think I did; this video’s from a long time ago.
Nicely done.
Thanks!😊
So pretty and cool. I still have not used mine. Where do I find the rainbow alcohol ink?
Thanks! The rainbow alcohol ink can be found on Amazon (amzn.to/3ksC8D5) or at joggles.com
@@Luxinda thank you
Yes I would leave lid in mold until both unmold together to stop possible distortion. Its painful to find your lid does not fit and you are in love with look. Resin sometimes does not look same pour to pour. I adore your jar. Its so pretty. Have great day. Higs Sheryl 💙🎨💙
Great and informative video. Colors remind me of Loki lol
Thank you!! 😁
Hi. How much resin did you put in total? The resin i have is 2:1 ratio, how much would i mix? I have the same mould.
I used 8 oz of resin for both parts of the jar - main base and lid -- so in your case, I would probably mix up 9 oz which is an easy 6 oz of one part to 3 oz of the other part, but that obviously leaves you with extra. Or you could change from oz to milliliters and mix up 160 ml to 80 ml to get 240 which is a hair over 8 oz and you won't have too much waste that way.
@@Luxinda thank you so much. I will try that tonight! I'm new to resin so it's all still a bit confusing 🙃
Beautiful jar
Thank you! 😊
@@Luxinda you are very welcome! Have a lovely day!
I'm new to your channel and new to resin. I didn't know what side to pour the resin for the lids.
Yes, I agree that the jar molds can be confusing about which side is up for the resin to get poured into. My only tip would be that on both parts of the jar mold - the jar and the lid - remember that the screw threads will always be closest to the table you’re working on. That should prevent you from accidentally pouring into the wrong side or part of the mold. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@Luxinda It does help a lot
once the jars are done are these able to have food in them or not
Probably not, although I think it's personal preference. You could absolutely put, say, wrapped candies in it. But definitely not liquid, because resin doesn't do well with long exposure to being wet. And I'd guess most people probably wouldn't want dry food (like pasta, for example) sitting in a resin jar. On the other hand, some folks have resin counter tops in their kitchen and prep food on there all the time. The best suggestion is to contact the company that makes the specific resin you use and ask them about food contact with their cured resin.
You are adorable 💗 lol I watched this specifically looking for someone who had the same mold release problem for this lol. Your strong! Great video!
Lol! Thank you! These molds don’t leave me feeling strong sometimes, that’s for sure. They can be daunting!!
why not use the water and dish soap trick to release the mold?
@@heavnshandcrafted2072, well, I would say that's because I've never heard of it :) I'll have to check that out -- thanks!!
I'm wondering how much heat resistant the resin needs to be if you used it as a candle jar 🤔
Good question! I don’t know about candle flame heat, but KS Resin is rated heat resistant up to 450 degrees, so it’s perfect for coasters that might have hot drinks set on them. People do make resin tea light candle holders. But I’m not sure about pouring a candle straight into the jar - that might get too hot when burned.
This was a really fun video lol, i've seen the jar mould but sadly I dont have 1 lol xx
Thank you!! 🏺 ✨
Hello! Where did you get this mold?? I would love to try this!!!
Here you go: amzn.to/31pIqMh
Have fun!
I like the jar just the way it is. I subscribed. Good video. I have not made a jar yet.
Thank you!! Give it a try - it’s a fun project!
I got my mold a couple of days ago I can't wait to try it. yours come out great
Thank you!! Hope you enjoy it!
It turned out great
Thank you!!
I am so brand new to resin. I have all I need, but I'm afraid to mess up. How far to the top of the mold do you pour to avoid overflow??
Don’t stress too much - playing around with it is the best way to learn and enjoy the process. I tend to pour till the resin gets close to the top, then slow down and keep adding just a little bit more, then a little bit more, etc, until the resin domes just a little bit above the top edge but not actually over the edge, stop. The resin will shrink a little while it sets up and hardens. But over-pour can always sanded, and putting in too little the first time can be fixed by pouring in a bit more resin later after the first pour hardened. You’ll soon get the hang of it.
can you make a video on how you made the mold
I actually did not make that mold - I purchased it off Amazon.
Beautiful jar & lid!
Thank you! 😊
What do you keep going over the resin in the molds with? That black thing?
That is my heat gun - I go over the resin with that a few times to pop any bubbles that rise to the surface.
I build epoxy countertops. Love your videos. Appreciate all you do. New Sub
Thank you so much!!😊
So cool!!!
Thank you!
what was the little sparkle ink if i may ask
The sparkle comes from Marabu Rainbow alcohol ink. Here's a link to it on Amazon, amzn.to/41ZRunC
This is beautiful! Do you know if you are able to store food items in it?
Thank you! I don’t think it would be advisable. Some resins claim to be “FDA compliant” meaning incidental contact with food isn’t a problem. But my understanding is that once any colorant - like micas, alcohol inks, paint, etc. - is added to the resin, then it should not touch food.
Wow that's so cool I love it!
Thank you!
love the effect - cute little mold - I think I would like one of these - next time do the drops of ink in the first half - then second pour do it again - I think it would look sharp - of course with blue ink & the rainbow ink lol
Thank you!!😊
Hey if u use alcohol it will help the mold come out much easier
Thanks!!
thank you I just am starting my resin business and I sitting here with the same mold it my hand
Welcome to the addiction 💛
Hi where to get the 8 oz mold? TIA 😊
Here you go: amzn.to/3ITh7y6 Thanks!
Add a little warm water to help release the mold
Thanks!
Hey I love your video and wanted to start a journey in making resin jars. Do you have any tips for me
Thanks! As for tips, try to use a resin that has low bubble issues and dries pretty rigid (not bendy). Other than that, just experiment and have fun 😁
@@Luxinda which brand do you prefer?
@@WeddingOfficiantTraceyJensen for a mold like this I like the Clear Cast 7050 (it’s available on Amazon and at The Epoxy Resin Store), but a less pricey resin like the Premium Quality Clear Epoxy Resin might be better to practice with before you pay for the pricier stuff. www.theepoxyresinstore.com/collections/top-4-products/products/crystal-clear-epoxy-resin-professional-finish-general-use
I tried this mold but unfortunately when I screwed it together it got stuck together. Do you have any tips on how I can get it unscrewed?
I can understand that -- I remember wondering if I should leave the lid sitting separately while both pieces finished curing or leave it screwed on, and it occurred to me that if I left the lid on the jar, they might meld together. The only thing I can think for you to try is your heat gun -- if you can aim it up underneath the lid all the way around and then keep trying to unscrew it (more heat, try again, etc), that *might* work. Good luck!!!
@@Luxinda I wonder would this work if the lid is too loose. Definitely gonna try this cause when I screw mine closed, I can turn it further or just pull on it and it comes off.
@@Gifted1tn , hmm, that’s too bad. With this specific mold, I get a lid that works but is a little tight. With the hexagonal jar mold I use in a different video, the lid is much looser and almost turns too far, but it doesn’t pull off. I wonder if the issue is your particular mold. I guess the only way to know is pour again and see if the same thing happens. You might be able to tuck a little bit of hot glue up into the thread of the lid to act like a bumper to stop it from over turning.
@@Luxinda And that is what I have, the hexagon one. Imma do another pour today plus I have the round one too so I'll see how that one does. Thank you for the response.. I will try the hot glue too.
@@Gifted1tn, good luck!
Cool effect
Thank you!😊
Would storing body butter/scrub or bath tea/salt in resin jars be fine?
Excellent question! Unfortunately, I don’t know the answer. That would be something the resin manufacturers could tell you. I’ll reach out to the owner of KS Resin and see what she says, then report back here. It may take awhile to get an answer. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Ok, here is the reply from KSResin: "Thank you for contacting us! When accurately measured, thoroughly mixed, and cured in the recommended environment, our products are FDA compliant for food safety. However, some chemicals could (although unlikely) react with the cured epoxy resin so unfortunately I cannot provide a definitive yes or no in this case." So I guess the best idea -- if you're really interested in finding out -- would be to get something made from resin (a coaster would be easy), put the bath/body product onto it and let it sit for a week or more, then see if the resin looks or feels any different when you wipe the product off of it.
@@Luxinda thank you very much for taking the time to look into that for me, it is much appreciated. I am soaking up as much knowledge before I do my first pour. Subscribed💚
I had the exact same question I was googling so much lol but I got this mold today and it’ll be in on Tuesday so I’ll put a test batch in and test on myself 😊 btw just found your channel today and you’re so funny and down to earth😊
@@Klaws0921 thank you! Good luck with your jar mold!!
