One of my four cats is very fat. She eats less than she’s allowed to, exercise (beyond just encouraging her to play) stresses her so much that it’s more a negative health impact than a positive one, and multiple vets have just straight up said that yeah, she’s just a fat cat, not much to be done about it, at least she’s in good health. Abuse is a massive accusation to throw out there; you do not know the circumstances or whether they’re trying to make the cat lose weight or not. I agree that we should all try to mitigate cat obesity but the world is not black and white.
@@petloverspy you know I was thinking about this. I had two cats, female that became overweight after they were spayed. They take their ovaries, this produces their hormones. Is it possible, that depending on the time of removal, that their body is on like the build up to the cycle. Thusly, making them store fats and water. Now if they’d leave these, and preform tubal, and vasectomies, would the animals be able to regulate their body weights better? Just a thought.
@@drakiana8717 From what I know of biology, I don’t believe the time during their heat cycle matters in regards to when a cat is spayed - if it stops producing hormones it stops producing hormones, doesn’t matter what hormone stage it was at previously. However the change in hormones without the ovaries does absolutely affect them and there is indeed a correlation between spaying and weight gain. Still, it is better for the health of the cat and the ecosystem to spay and neuter, but it’s good to be aware of what commonly comes with the procedure so we can do our best to mitigate it! My fat cat in question just happens to have a terribly slow metabolism, her weight gain didn’t happen when she got spayed but as she matured. I managed to diet all our other cats (used to be overweight too when I was not in charge of feeding) to an ideal weight for them but she’s just kinda hopeless with it, although luckily she’s very healthy even at 14 years old! The only one of our seniors with no chronic issues, lol
