    An interesting comparison between the Kindle and Kobo e-readers. I have both too, and I'm also a convert from Kindle to Kobo. My Kobo is very slightly slower than the Kindle but I prefer the interface with out the Ads. Thanks for sharing your video!

    The reason why the kobo book selection is smaller is because Amazon scams authors into being exclusive with them, for a semi decent (but not really) pay. With Kobo I feel more sure about my favorite authors actually getting payed :) That’s why I would never choose to buy in the amazon store :)

      Late response, but I think it's also important to mention scale with this argument. For example, Spotify pays it's artists barely anything, BUT they are the largest service, and therefore allows for artists to gain more streams and general popularity from being on it.
      Amazon may pay their authors worse than Kobo per book, but the sheer amount of sales they can make from the Kindle store vastly outweighs the individual gains they would get from Kobo on a book by book basis.

    I have a Kobo and absolutely love it. Haven’t found many books that aren’t available in the Kobo store that are in the Kindle store - except for the fact that Kindle tends to trap authors into exclusivity deals which I really hate. There’s a few books that friends of friends have written and I’d love to support them but they’re only available on Kindle and I just hate that so much I refuse to buy them 😂 as an Aussie I have no issues with the amount of books available, Kobo Plus is a decent price, I have their audiobook subscription and enjoy that too. I love the freedom of the Kobo compared to the Kindle which is much more locked down (and I say that as an Apple user - just for the irony 😂)

    I like Kobo better, I have both and I started with a Kindle but the lack of personalization features and overall limitations of the kindle even put me off reading some times. And I hated the freaking adds, Kobo isn't nearly as intrusive with the adds.

      @@ravenclawreads3177 like 3 years starting with a Paperwhite, I never used kindle unlimited as most of the included books didn't catch my eye. My fiance gifted me a Kobo Libra 2 because I wanted a upgrade. At the beginning I wasn't sure because I already have many books in the kindle but in the Kobo it was so easy side load them and I could actually organize everything by author, series and number to my taste. You can even add your own tags like language or genre using calibre. And the Kobo has black mode and automatic yellow light which is lovely because I read a lot at night. I have read so much more in the Kobo since I got it, and sideload my favorite fanfiction to it is also soo easy and I can even read articles/websites using pocket so I can use even as a recipe book and to do other stuff that I really never got around with the kindle because the kindle just do not make it easy.

    I just got a kobo libra 2, and while I’m debating if I should send it back and get a Kindle paperwhite, I think I might end up keeping the kobo for a few reasons.Full pocket integration is amazing because I read a lot of blogs and online articles. This feature is killer and works natively. The ergonomics is another reason, the side lip makes it easier to hold the kobo for me. I love that you can slide the screen to adjust the brightness, I love that you can easily tinker with patches (export highlights to a local file), etc.
    The reason I’m thinking of returning it for a kindle is because the kindle can translate phrases whereas the kobo only translates a word at a time. I just dont know if I can sacrifice all the other things i like about the kobo for this one feature.

    • @ravenclawreads3177
      @ravenclawreads3177  Год назад +2

      What a great list of pros for the Kobo. I mean honestly they are both great, if you can swing it, I say keep the Kobo and get the kindle when there is a sale. It also depends on where you buy most of your digital books from. For me, most of books live with Amazon so I use the Kobo only occasionally whereas if you're just starting your digital book journey you can begin with Kobo, or if most of your books are in the Kobo system, it makes sense. Whew, they are both just too good.

    Hi,
    First, thank you so very much for sharing your insights. To say the least, your content was extremely helpful.
    In terms of context, I am doing my research for the purposes of buying my first ereader. I am weighing the pros and cons of the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kobo Libra 2. And I am a Canadian who spends most of my time in Canada.
    So I am wondering, if you were in my shoes, where would you land: Kindle or Kobo? Why?

    • @ravenclawreads3177
      @ravenclawreads3177  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much for watching. If I lived in amazing Canada I would purchase a Kobo. I also think you have to determine if you're invested in the Amazon Eco system. If you have no attachment to Amazon, Kobo is by far the superior device. For me, kindle has my heart solely because I have so many books on Kindle already. I didn't want to purchase from two platforms. I hope this helps, I would love to hear what you decide.

    • @John-zb2kw
      @John-zb2kw 7 месяцев назад

      Thanks again. I really appreciate your help. I am also very grateful that you actually responded because not everyone does.
      I am going to begin my ereader journey with the Kobo Libre 2, however, I am going to leave the door open to a possible Kindle purchase at some point. Why? Quite simply, books are food for the soul and I would never restrict myself to one restaurant. So while I fully recognize the cons that come with a Kindle purchase and the costs associated with concurrent living within both platforms, the bottom line is that this decision is about me and I firmly believe that I’m worth it. To be sure, I’ve spent more on harder to justify purchases.
      I will get back to you in a while with an update on my ereader journey.
      Thanks again. Thank you so very much!

      Hi again,
      Just to let you know, I went ahead and bought the Paperwhite and Libra 2 and I’m not disappointed. Your insights were oh so helpful!
      I like the depth and breadth of the Paperwhite ‘ecosystem’ and so I think the monthly Lindle Unlimited approach is going to work for me.
      I think the interface on the Libra is better than the Kindle. As compared to the Kindle it’s far easier to see what page you’re on and information about chapters. And connecting to my local library was oh so easy.
      I bought sturdy covers for both plus well padded zippered sleeves for protection against drops and other such occurrences.
      As compared to physical books, reading with either of these devices is much easier. I suspect I will never go back to physical books as I am so pleased at my ereading experience thus far.
      Thanks again and take care.

      Yes, I have a kindle fire too and I go back and forth. The paper white is my favorite if I had to pick but I appreciate the fire and have to have one.

    Merci pour cette vidéo. Kindle est un système trop fermé donc trop limité. Kobo est compatible avec d’avantages de formats. On peut emprunter des livres dans les bibliothèques avec Kobo, pas avec Kindle.

    Is there a text to speech feature?

    • @kortneyhill37
      @kortneyhill37 Год назад

      It’s my understanding that you can do text to speech with the kindle paper white but you’ll have to connect the kindle to a Bluetooth speaker to hear it. The kindle fire does have text to speech, that video is coming up next.

      Yes, the only thing the Kobo is missing for me is the book selection right now….

      this is the thing that annoys me the most. I love the features of the kobo but the book selection is seriously lacking.

      @@courtney7996 Yes! That's my issue too. I literally won't get a Kindle Oasis because of the Kobo and I love it, but where are all the books?! I even got Kobo Plus and I still can't find a comparative number of books to the Kindle selection.

      I hear that, the kobo book selection is a bit limited. I’m trying the Kobo Plus trial to see if it’s any better 🤷🏽‍♀️
