Hi Jonathan, this is Huy. Thank you very much for your thorough review and feedbacks to my system. You have shown several truthful points to improve in my system and I will surely follow your recommendations. Regarding the base for the growbeds, I used V shaped metal bars (4cmx6cm) (yeah, it looks a bit thin in the video :-)) and the seller picked this size for me as I told him the weight it must carry. But yes, being cautious is never redundant. I will add more legs to strengthen the base. I have just moved my system a bit out of the roof to get more sun light. Currently, I am growing 3 types: cucurbit, dracunculus vulgaris and tomato and they are growing pretty good. I will send you a video update of my system. BTW, I already watched your video about the trip to Vietnam. It is interesting video and I hope you already had a wonderful time here. At least you could already enjoy the sunlight and the heat :-D. Again thanks Jonathan. I will share this video to my family and my friends. They will enjoy it also
Thank you very much for the sharing this important experience. I'm interested on this topic of growing insects to feed fishes in aquaponics. I would just have one concern about feeding the fishes ONLY insects: they do not get all the nutrients needed from insects, (I've read some scientific articles about this topic). I think that algae can complement that. Anyway this experience and this video are definitely awesome, thanks again!
I'd have to grow a ton of insects to feed my tilapia. I already vermicompost and keep a set of duckweed beds, I am exploring making fish food of my own, although I am concerned over it being sub-par to Purina's Aquamax line. FYI: Purina makes crap dog and cat food, but excellent fish food! Buy it from Lakeway Tilapia, it's cheaper.
xlnt video again many thanks. appreciate your experience and topics. Melbourne Grower. Interested in reducing food costs and minimal power usage Especially home grown fish food. I grow silver perch and put a led light over my tank at night during summer to catch beetles. I also grow red wrigglers and duck weed to supplement year round. Tilapia sound very productive but is it to cold in Melbourne winters without heating? sound quality is a bit dodgy. any chance of a better microphone Many thanks
Thank you Paul, yes Tilapia are not adapted to Melbourne temperatures. The light above the fish tank is an excellent trick 😉. Regarding the sound I am now using what is supposed to be a "good microphone" but I still struggle to get it right... I am improving but good things take time 😋
Yes, live fish food is high in minerals and vitamins. However if we always use the same fish food it might lead to some deficiencies. mineral amendment is then necessary.
Horrible audio quality. I wonder how others didn't comment on that. Some parts cannot be understood at double the volume. Anyway... I downloaded the track and fixed it as best as I could, but don't expect Sony Studios level. Tell me how I can deliver it to you. I think you can now attach the new audio track instead of the old one in RUclips.
*What type of insect are you growing?*

Yeah it's good to balance and diversify the source of food as much as possible. What type of fish are you growing?

so far ive used dog and cat food for yabbies. they seem to love it.
i will try meal worms soon.
yeah they are not difficult to feed :)
Wouldn't he need added minerals, and vitamins, over time.... Cause it isn't like those are being brought into the system via the air.

Thank you for creating a good content but your audio is hard to hear.. and also your accent is difficult to understand.. pls speak clearly

Sorry Jony, I had some technical sound challenges on some of my videos.
