I`m really glad you liked this movie because it`s been my favorite Hitchcock film for a long time. I never get tired of watching it. When you watch Ray Milland you can see the wheels turning in his head. Always thinking what to do next.
This movie has been a lifelong favorite of mine. The suspense is excruciating and the surprise twist is super-satisfying. Hitchcock has never been better at framing and camera shots than here. Great reaction, Shandor!
That 22 minute scene with Tony getting Swan to do his bidding is incredible ... Rob Ager has done an hours analysis of it, really good. Its so wel written,.and acted, and staged, its like an Aaron Sorkin script at its best. I only sat down and watched this movie for the first time yesterday, i am so impressed with it.
I love this Hitchcock film. One of my top three of his movies. Such a great story line. Great reaction. I was just as mesmerized as you when I saw it the first time.
This was my favorite movie when I was a kid and I watched it every time it came on TV (Rope, also). I haven't seen it in a few years now and this has made me want to watch it again. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, too. Feel better, my friend, and Happy Thanksgiving from America. 🖖🏽
When I read the first sentence of your comment I had to check the username to see if it was a comment I’d written and forgotten (has happened before)! I love both this and Rope also, both my most beloved Hitchcock that are totally underrated.
Ray Milland was a fine actor who only occasionally got roles worthy of his talents. Towards the end of his career he was stuck in cheezy horror films. But when he worked with Billy Wilder, he won an Oscar and Hitchcock knew exactly how to best use him. Holding his own with Grace Kelly, who always had every eye glued to her, shows exactly how good he was.
I find it fascinating that Hitchcock didn't really want to make this movie. He was concerned that it would be too stagey and dialogue-heavy. Which of course it is -- and yet, in the hands of a master filmmaker, it becomes nothing less than sheer delight.
Dial M for Murder is a great Hitchcock movie, it's a shame that the copyright claims ruined your reaction video. Still, I appreciate your posting your reaction anyway. I hope you'll react to Hitchcock's "North By Northwest" and "Rebecca" soon.
I never knew this but "Dial M for Murder" was also filmed in 3-D!! I liked your reaction to the movie because you were paying full attention. A lot of people who react to films keep talking over important dialogue and miss a lot of scenes! There was nothing boring about your reaction to this film, it's one of my favorites!
3D at the time required two projectors going at once, each with a slightly different version. Normally a theater would have two projectors, with one playing the film and the other loaded with the next reel, and the switch-over could be done pretty seamlessly. (A normal film required two reels.) With both in use for this 3D version, the movie would have to stop to allow both projectors to be loaded with the next pair of reels, hence the need for an intermission for this.
I seem to like this film more than most other people do. I've always found it easy to rewatch. Foreground elements always keep me aware of its 3D heritage (sometimes comically). I love how Tony can tactically pivot and cast the blame on Margot.
One of my most favorite non-Hitchcock Hitchcock movies is mystery-queen Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution. The best version was made in 1957, directed by Billy Wilder with Marlene Dietrich. I dare you to guess the ending. A remake featured Diana Rigg (Mrs. Peel in the British tv series, the Avengers) but her German accent is pretty forced. A very different version is more recent times is just ghastly.
Dial M is my 2nd favourite Hitchcock film...Rear Window is my favourite. RUclips POLICE kept coming up throughout the video, which was pretty annoying.
Another great reaction, Shandor. I do enjoy this film although I wouldn't say it's as masterful as Psycho, Notorious, Strangers On A Train, Rear Window or Vertigo. But to each their own! The dialogue and performances here are definitely top notch👌 Curious, have you watched On The Waterfront (1954)? It's directed by Elia Kazan and starring Marlon Brando. All time classic!
I am glad you enjoyed this movie so much. I'm sorry the RUclips police cut it short. There is a documentary I watched on RUclips several years ago about the making of the movie. It discussed in particular the camera work in the scene between Tony and Swan. It was fascinating. I hope you can find it.
There is a remake of this movie in 1981, pretty much identical but with different actors, with Angie Dickinson and Christopher Plummer.. Pretty good, considering. There are also others, which I haven't seen.
Shandor!!! Please check out old time radio .. RUclips has so much .."Escape"..."Barrie Craig".. I love Sydney Greenstreet in "Nero Wolf"...CBS and BBC had radio shows...You can turn the lights out and listening is great!!!
While I enjoy the solving process a lot, I do find it a bit stagey for my taste. This doesn’t crack my Hitchcock Top Ten! But I’m still thrilled that Classic older films are getting their just due.
Shandor de Laurentis, I'm afraid I had to give this reaction a Dislike, due to the several extended periods of silence and no picture (of the film) on the screen. I realize you were compelled to conceal those scenes from us by the RUclips Police. But what you should've done, and hopefully will do in the future, is provide us with a voiceover from you, or written words on the screen, informing us of what we're missing. I've seen this picture about 3 times, but not in several years, and I don't know it by heart. So when you go dark basically for 5 or 10 seconds, it's not that big a deal, but when you go dark for longer than that, there's so much I (and other viewers) are missing, and don't remember from our past times watching the film, that it makes the reaction video a rather frustrating viewing experience. The simple remedy is to tell us what we missed during those dark periods, and to do so in real time during those dark periods. I've seen other reactors do this and it makes their reaction videos so much more enjoyable. Other than that, I'm glad you loved it. I don't rank it as high as you, but it is brilliant. I have it 6th among Hitch's pictures. 1) Rear Window 2) Notorious 3) Psycho 4) North By Northwest 5) Vertigo 6) Dial M For Murder.
Just saw this movie a month ago at the movies for the first time So good. The husband is the worse. Not liking the RUclips police in this reaction. Will have to go back and see your reaction to Notorious.
I like your reactions. Though I think it would be better if instead of stopping the sound of the movie you cut to just visually showing you without showing the movie.
Great movie that unfortunately has a hole in the main plot you could drive a truck through‼️ He so exacting in his calculations that it takes him many months to carefully put his “well thought out” plans into action, & yet the best plan for the key was that convoluted, fraught with possible mishaps key exchange map⁉️ All he had to do was to make up a duplicate key for the hire hand. Even the inspector brought the possibility up that he may have stolen the key with the letter he supposedly stole & made up a duplicate. A simpleton’s mistake that makes no sense 😵💫
The Police could easily ask the local Key makers in the area if anybody had asked for a copy if the key, in fact i would be surprised if thay isnt a procedure in such cases with no obvious beeak in....maybe Hitch should have added a quick mention of such a check....actually the inspector does mention a key being copied, but dismisses it at 22.50 in this video
In the 6 months or so he was planning this he could have managed to pick the key up far from the area.Even if he didn’t, why would someone have to account for making a copy of his own key? I have more than one copy just in case. & he could always say he misplaced or lost it, certainly not a case to be made for murder on that bit of nothing.
The Very Last Scene is NOT a happy ending.... Grace Kelly is a broken woman, and is likely to become a depressed alcoholic ( she "needs" a drink from the man who tried to murder her and then to execute her), and Mark leaves her side. Tony has still sort of won a part of the game, they will spilt up.
This is kind of a backward mystery...it's not so much a whodunnit and it is a who's going to solve it. Don't worry about "being boring" anyone who watches Hitchcock knows he sucks you in. In fact, I would have been annoyed if you missed something because you were too anxious to make it about you and not the film. I've seen too many reactors make that mistake. I did a great job in honoring the movie.
Good question. I know that some other people also racted to this movie and their videos didn't get claimed... This is not the first time it's happened to me, I had the same thing with Casablanca. Apparently RUclips doesn't like me.

Yep!
I love this movie! Just dialog and people in virtually one room the whole time. And not a single dull moment.
Dial M for Murder is a great Hitchcock movie, it's a shame that the copyright claims ruined your reaction video. Still, I appreciate your posting your reaction anyway.
I hope you'll react to Hitchcock's "North By Northwest" and "Rebecca" soon.
Eah, I think my next Hitchcok movie is going to be North By Northwest. Hopefully it's not going to get claimed, though...
@@shandoratthecinema4098 That's great! I look forward to seeing your reaction. I hope you don't get any claims on it. 🤞

Here's another vote for "Witness For the Prosecution" to be put on your to do list.
Okay!
Great movie for sure! One of my favorite Ray Milland movies is Golden Earrings, set during WWII.

Check out "Witness for the Prosecution"! Outstanding Murder Mystery/ Courtroom Drama!
Dial M is my 2nd favourite Hitchcock film...Rear Window is my favourite.
RUclips POLICE kept coming up throughout the video, which was pretty annoying.
Always love a Hitchcock reaction.
This one is difficult to react to because it so dialogue driven but you did a good job.
Check out Lifeboat. The whole thing takes place on a small boat.
Thanks!
15:24 the 1950's is when Hitchcock did his greatest work.
I believe you will love the psychological thriller the Manchurian candidate with Angela Lansbury and Michael Rennie.
Another great reaction, Shandor. I do enjoy this film although I wouldn't say it's as masterful as Psycho, Notorious, Strangers On A Train, Rear Window or Vertigo. But to each their own! The dialogue and performances here are definitely top notch👌

This is a good one I often recommend.
This IS a masterpiece and one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's nice to see so many people, including you Shandor, appreciate it.
There is a remake of this movie in 1981, pretty much identical but with different actors, with Angie Dickinson and Christopher Plummer.. Pretty good, considering. There are also others, which I haven't seen.
Ray Milland is perfect in this, such a brilliant, patronizing, condescending villain!
Milland was also really good as a Colombo villain.
Such tight construction, pure Hitchcock.
Shandor, did you catch the Hitchcock cameo?
No, until I did some reading afterwards. He was in the photo!
I’m not interested in seeing your picture superimposed over the movie, especially when you are saying, ‘what a great shot.’
Shandor u r so cute with ur comments. If u haven't already seen ud love Donald spot s analysis of all hitch films

Try "Rope" another Hitchcock movie or "The Lost Weekend" with Ray Milland!
I like your reactions.

You'll be arrested for carrying a handbag. Pretty disturbing.
Get better dude.
Thanks! I'm still not a 100%, but I'm getting there!

It's not as good as Vertigo
