Dear God I need to win the lottery. This car has been on my list since I was a kid. I want a BB series 512 and an F40 to complete my childhood Ferrari dream garage.
F40 were pretty affordable about 15 years ago , personally I think they're the most over rated of the top end ferraris . That gto though is just perfect .

But when it comes to a pure driving experience by going to the absolute limit of performance and saving weight there isn't really much this side of a full blown race car that compares. Especially when you consider the era it came from.
@@RoadRage810 personally I preferred the tech laden porsche 959 . In komfort spec it had more weight, less power as was pretty much just as fast , the 959 sport was faster than the f40 .
While the 288 GTO is somewhat reminiscent of the 308 GTB, the fact that they reengineered it to be longitudinal, added the turbo, and the hints of the 250 GTO. To my eyes, the additional length gives it the perfect proportions. It is beautiful in the best Pininfarina fashion, far eclipsing the F40, F50, F60, Enzo, and LaFerrari in my opinion.
Agreed. Growing up as a kid I always loved the F40 (even though my neighbor had a Countach 5000s which he took me for rides in, loved that car also.) As I’ve gotten older however (in my 40’s now) the 250 GTO and Miura look better than the Countach and F40 to me 👍🏻
I saw one at the New car show in Denver, 1985 sitting next to a Pantera and a Porsche 944. The price was just under $200k. I just fell in love with it.

Hands down my favourite Ferrari of all and this one is about as beautiful as they get! - And although I am firmly middle aged, I have never even seen one in the flesh :-( I always thought that the Magnum PI era of the 308 was a keystone chapter of Ferrari; every subsequent model since has borrowed a little from the 308 and despite the spaceship flavour of the design language of todays models, I bet you can still see something of the 308 in them. The 288 was obviously a 308 on steroids, augmented with supercar performance; a legend and an absolutely gorgeous piece of automotive art.
I'm hoping with the rise of 3d printers and carbon fiber becoming more affordable then we will get a second coming of these classic cars but in modern materials allowing for folks to relive there childhoods if not I prolly won't get to see one of these either lol

I was 9 years old when this car was introduced to the world and I was just blown away by it. The 288 GTO is the car that made me a fan of Ferrari. I’m a Porsche lover first and foremost but would take a 288 GTO in a heartbeat over most Porsche models.

To kind of put your finger on its look is something Fioravanti himself said about his design philosophy: the courage of simplicity. This is the principle that connects this car to earlier ones -- and it's what's been increasingly rare in more recent Ferraris, especially the super cars.

I still have the original copy I bought of Car magazine (UK version) of their drive and review of this. Just beautiful! I know print mags have almost disappeared but the photography was amazing! July 1985, they drove from Maranello to London. Loved this car since then. I actually saw one once, in Australia about 2000/2001, I think it's the only one here? Just gorgeous! you mentioned Wide World of Cars(Nanuet?). In the mid 70s I intended to drive to Grossman Motors to see a 72(one owner) Ghibli Coupe. I got lost somewhere in Nyack and found myself in the parking lot of a garage repair shop. I asked a guy if he would give me directions to Grossman's and he said if could wait a minute, he was headed that way. Grateful as hell I chatted with him. He got into a Gold colored Miura SV and we set off. By the time we got there 5/6 minutes? I was in love but not with the Maser. The understanding Joe Namnoun said.."you're a little mixed up now" take a drive and just come back Monday. I drove down the road to WW of C and BINGO ! Right there in their lot was a Agrento and Crema Daytona Spyder......By this time i had broken up with the Miura and my new love of the Ferrari! Thank you for the memory John. Tony Davis

We think they are stunning cars, that said many people dont like the way they look. A 512TR is the perfect in-between.. More refined than the Testarossa, but without the polarizing headlights and taillights.
This car is reminiscent of the 308 which the Magnum PI series popularized, but of course the 288 GTO was worlds worlds above the other. I'm envious that you're driving that car pan is great

The car I lust after most in the dream garage. I remember reading the article on Car Magazine when they collected a car from the factory and drove it back to the UK with the new owner. It’s such a perfect shape.
I still have that magazine. The article followed Ron Stratton’s drive back from Maranello after collecting his GTO. I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him driving it through Wilmslow not long after the magazine was published, I’ll never forget that sight of the gearbox casing visible from the rear, must be 35 years ago now.

The 288 was always special in my eyes…it was clearly much much more than a 308….just visually it was clear…but I had no idea what lurked under that Vented hood…I did have a 1/18th scale model of the 288 and the F40….all you had to do was look at the engines and see they are almost identical
Years ago, back when this car was trading under 500k, i used to think to myself that people were blind and mostly driven by hype and trends. This has always been to me the most beautiful Ferrari ever and personifies the 80s better than any other super car. Even the fact that it had been made as a race car for the legendary group B should have made this car an permanent classic. I am low key kind of mad that they are not valued as they should.

The car I lust after most in the dream garage. I remember reading the article on Car Magazine when they collected a car from the factory and drove it back to the UK with the new owner. It’s such a perfect shape.
I still have that magazine. The article followed Ron Stratton’s drive back from Maranello after collecting his GTO. I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him driving it through Wilmslow not long after the magazine was published, I’ll never forget that sight of the gearbox casing visible from the rear, must be 35 years ago now.

The 288 was always special in my eyes…it was clearly much much more than a 308….just visually it was clear…but I had no idea what lurked under that Vented hood…I did have a 1/18th scale model of the 288 and the F40….all you had to do was look at the engines and see they are almost identical
Years ago, back when this car was trading under 500k, i used to think to myself that people were blind and mostly driven by hype and trends. This has always been to me the most beautiful Ferrari ever and personifies the 80s better than any other super car. Even the fact that it had been made as a race car for the legendary group B should have made this car an permanent classic. I am low key kind of mad that they are not valued as they should.
