Even with a fan, the lifespan was too short. For some reason I am getting a DRV ADJ error. I think the problem is the optics. It's great to take it apart and study it! 👍💯
I think it is because the Recorder is in NTSC Mode. I just noticed the little '625' on the screen when checking the edit. I was feeding PAL into it. Would also explain why it was not showing anything from FireWire.
41:45 The Samsung K9F1208U0A chip near the IDE connector is an 64M x 8 Bit / 32M x 16 Bit NAND Flash Memory. That most likely contains the OS for the embedded Celeron CPU. Maybe remote control over the network is a lot of the reason why there is a whole embedded computer in this recorder.
Ah yes, I did look up that. looks like the NEC chip next to it is an IDE adapter for the flash. Probably made it easier for the network stuff to use an OS that already has all that stuff setup in it.
36:22 yea that even looks like a typical 24 pin PC PSU connector lol they really did just squish a PC in there, would be super cool to see what shows up on that VGA if anything at all. also not sure what that glass with the flat flex was, probably another sensor thingy and yea case is ground for some laser diodes, IR case seems to always be positive. cool stuff, lots of pretty dichroic glass in there too :3
@@Elecami ahh i see, ya at a glance it looked exactly like a typical PSU connector for a PC. (ignore for IR diodes) USUALLY if you look at the laser diode from the back with the uninsulated case pin (i think ground) at the bottom and the other 2 pins with the black insulator around them above it, the right insulated pin should be + and the left insulated pin should be the photodiode connection, to measure the laser output directly. (ive noticed a bunch of things dont use that pin, perhaps its mainly a calibration thing for the factory) if that doesnt work try the insulated pin on the far left as ground instead of the case, some diodes just have that extra case pin as a leftover. ive had plenty where i just cut that pin but yea a bit of a roll of the dice guessing without the actual datasheet so take it all with a grain of salt, of course theres always exceptions. what i explained is pretty common though.
Interesting, I came here because my machine is not functioning anymore. Its developed a fault but no fault showing on screen. I might pull it apart just for kicks. Its written off in our books now. Its funny how you have broken down every camera I have used and owned (some still) PDW 530's and 355's and even the old M7 ! Cheers
@@Elecami hi, i think its the Power supply, Caps were changed including the high voltage cap. Unit shuts Off Display and Power LED dont lit. After a few minutes Off the grid, the machine works again for 2 minutes and shuts down again. Cables are checked ...

Thanks. Seems there were some design flaws leading to a short life of this machine?
00:11:38 - maybe, as professional piece of gear, it expects reference clock/black burst at the input and doesn't like to record in freerun mode.

I think it is a different pinning to a PC Power supply.
Laser has 3 terminals, but still uses the case? I guess one of them is the case.

Yea, take it apart. Lots of good things to discover in there.
damn, i need such a power supply, my machine shuts off after a few minutes of operation 😞
Is it the power supply causing that or some error? Maybe power supply capacitors are going bad.
