You guys can cover this program for the remainder. Amazing coverage, and access. I love watching the building of a dynasty. FABULOUS
Real Talk Exactly
LOVE TO SEE YOU BOTH TOGETHER. AMAZING DUO. THANKS FOR THE SPORT
I don’t think the US realizes what we had with Carl Lewis. Everyone in the WORLD knew that guy.
He was our Usain Bolt, only a few decades earlier
I grew up on the other side of the world, the south pacific to be exact..and everybody knew who Carl Lewis is and was back then, one of the greatest sprinter of the game #ALegend..those young athletes are lucky to have him as a coach and mentor
carl lewis BOUT DAT LYFE BOI ..... respect greatness .
In regards to what he said at 0:35 there is some major correction. You had a prime Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake so yeah you can't fault the US sprinters. NO one was going to beat them in the 100 or 200. I'm assuming he was mainly talking about the men's side but he didn't specify. The women's side had Allyson Felix win the 200m AND both the female relay teams win their respective race.
Yeah, it the men side not the women. The women were doing their thing in 2012.
Silver in the 100m (Jeter) plus 4th and 5th place (Madison/Bartoletta and Felix).
Gold and Bronze in 200m (Felix and Jeter) plus 5th place (Richard-Ross)
Gold and Bronze in 400m (Richard-Ross and Trotter)
Women's 4x100m Gold (World Record)
Women's 4x400m Gold (5th or 6th Faster time in history)
Gold and Bronze in the Long Jump (Reese and DeLoach)
On the Men side it was very bad. Only Gatlin's bronze at 100m was the only individual sprinter medal. The 4x400m men's placed 2nd with a badly depleted squad. 4x100m did medal and ran the 2nd fastest time, until they were strip of that those medal due to Tyson Gay's PED.
The last time the US men dominate in the 100m to 400m was in Athens in 2004. Only Francis Obikwelu silver medal at 100m stop the US men from sweeping all sprints from 100-200 and 400m.
I know that a lot of the struggles came in lieu of the decade of dominance by Bolt and the Jamaicans men's at 100-200 meters. But also, a lot of young top sprinters in the States were not going into track and were pursuing the dollars from professional football.
Even the long jump, were the US historically have been dominate, they struggled in that event in recent years.
Currently right now the new crop of US sprinters looks to be very good.
100m: Coleman, Baker and Lyles have led the way this year
200m: Lyles has dominated everyone in his passing.
400m: Though WNK will be back, not sure how he will be. US has Norman and Kerley
I hope that USA Track uses Carl or even bring him on a a coach for the sprint relay squad. I believe his knowledge will help this young athletes succeed, like how he and his generation did in the 80's and early 90's.
I agree fully I was gona comment this but I saw yours first
Message to all those future American Olympic hopeful: Commit yourself to UH and be trained by the two best coaches in Track & Field in the entire world! Listen to these two men (Lewis and Burrell) and work hard and then you too would be Olympic champions like they are! To be the best, you have got to be trained by the best!
Carl Lewis won more golds by himself than the Jamaica team! Oh, and the entire NCAA coaching staff from around the country as well! Whose House? Coogs House, of course, son!
@@grandwonder5858 More medals than Jamaica? He doesn't even have more medals than Usain Bolt alone. Forget about Jamaica. Not to take a dig at Carl but you need to stop with the hyperbole.
What a team manager!!!
There's soooooo much talent in Houston, it was only a matter of time! Greater Houston area High Schools absolutely dominated at the 2018 UIL Track and Field Championships. They literally do not need to recruit outside of Harris County and they'll be fine. I tip my cap!
Real Talk....plenty of Talent there and in Texas.
yessir!
Jaazer Webster
Well, it's one of the most polulous states..lol....of COURSE there is a lot of talent.
Love these vids
Houston did a good job with the signees this year! Look out for the 2019 sprint squad.
It's Cheeto Do you have names of these future Cougars and where they come from!!!!
Shout out to the coaching staff
I was warming up for my race at Penn Relaysx and I saw these beasts warming up next to me.. Talk about presence😨😵
Alex Brown wym by presence
(Sorry for the late reply). What I meant by "presence" was the energy these guys gave off. Them being next to me was very intimidating.
@@uncrownedking3272 Stop being a pussy and man up!
Great job, staff !!!!!!
Remember standing in an the competitor's elevator with Carl Lewis at Madison Square Garden at the 1980 Milrose Games he was already a Legend amongst us Trsck and Field Guys.
Love this channel!
Guys guys stop at 5.00 .. wtf is that lane 5 guy doing in lane 4 😂😂😂
Lol that was Eli Hall in JUCO. He ran in somebody else’s lane and they didn’t DQ him 😆
That was the best clip ever
Answer: swervin' on these foolz😂👍

What's going with UH Track and Field? I miss you guys.
All l can say to the rest of the NCAA is. “ Houston has solved their problems “. Lol 😆

Nasty!!!
When are tryouts for sprinters?
I would love to have Coach Carl Lewis as a coach
He is so motivating to me and he isn’t as ‘forceful’ if you know what I mean
What do you mean?
Push pull strike method using this method you are able to run twice as fast
I mean 5 people 2021 Houston olympics.... Amere Lattin 400H, Eli Hall 200, Brian Baraza 3000SC, Mario Burke sprints (not USA), Kamari Montgomery 400, Obi Igbokwe 400
Rip Cameron
Carl Lewis acknowledged that he failed three tests during the 1988 US Olympic trials, which under international rules at the time should have prevented him from competing in the Seoul games two months later.
The admission is a further embarrassment for the United States Olympic Committee, which had initially denied claims that 114 positive tests between 1988 and 2000 were covered up. It will add weight to calls by leading anti-doping officials and top athletes for an independent inquiry into the US's record on drug issues.
Dr Wade Exum alleged that a ban imposed on Lewis after positive tests for three stimulants had been overturned by the USOC when the athlete said he had ingested them mistakenly in a herbal supplement.
Lewis received only a warning after officials ruled that his positive tests were due to "inadvertent" use. Some scientists believe the substances could have been a masking agent for more serious drugs, such as anabolic steroids
yep...USA been robbing medals for the last half century
@@KoolKaiser No argument from me! Carl Lewis is the biggest hypocrite ever.
But do y'all have a good middle distance team that I'm a 400 and 800 runner
Jayden House in the Caribbean we consider the 400 and 800 sprints
800 aint a sprint
Head coach is saying to a multiple Gold medal Olympic icon ; "well part of me is saying you don't know the commitment this is gonna take"!!!. Are you freaking kidding me. Meanwhile homeboy is at least 100 lbs overweight. Seriously coach, your talking about Carl Lewis. No need to school him on commitment.
You know who Leroy Burrell is right??
"Homeboy" is Leroy Burrell. Leroy Burrell's best 100M was 9.85, Carl Lewis' best was 9.86. Leroy's wife was one of the best sprinters in the US and his son Cameron is one of the best sprinters in the US today. To allow someone else to coach your son and your "specialty" takes a ton of grace, openness, awareness and self sacrifice IMO.
I run for cl stars in carl Lewis cameron Burrell other dude and eli hall
Did someone face check how many Olympians they got in Tokyo
I need to know this coach any contact
Who here wants a scholarship to this place
No history to be made when the season ends before it starts
5:00 wtf 😂
It was a shame, 2012 Olympics.
But we wooped ass in the 5k and 10k
Carl is “beast”. Best ever. Looks like he could still run a 10 flat. 💪🏽
do yall recommend university of houston or sam houston university for pursuing track n field?
Jescide Life
U. of H.
What kind of stupid question is that? It's like asking if a steak dinner from the finest restaurant is any better than a meal from McDonald's!
Houston Street in NYC. 🤔😂👍
UH is my initial too ..... *sorry, cant resist it ;)
My boy dodley aint even go there yet
2012 was as difficult as you can imagine.... 2024 might be even more deadly
USA ARMY nah USA is getting back on Top.. and Bolt is gone so it's gonna change now
Well the world got better when it came to sprints events. USA JUST TO OWN WORLD MEN RECORDS IN 100,200,400 M.DASH AND4×100 RELAYS. IT'S TIME TI GET THOSE RECORDS BACK.
Carl Lewis was one of the biggest dopers in history.
