I don’t think the US realizes what we had with Carl Lewis. Everyone in the WORLD knew that guy.

I grew up on the other side of the world, the south pacific to be exact..and everybody knew who Carl Lewis is and was back then, one of the greatest sprinter of the game #ALegend..those young athletes are lucky to have him as a coach and mentor

In regards to what he said at 0:35 there is some major correction. You had a prime Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake so yeah you can't fault the US sprinters. NO one was going to beat them in the 100 or 200. I'm assuming he was mainly talking about the men's side but he didn't specify. The women's side had Allyson Felix win the 200m AND both the female relay teams win their respective race.

    • @BDQ1975
      @BDQ1975 6 лет назад +2

Yeah, it the men side not the women. The women were doing their thing in 2012.
Silver in the 100m (Jeter) plus 4th and 5th place (Madison/Bartoletta and Felix).
Gold and Bronze in 200m (Felix and Jeter) plus 5th place (Richard-Ross)
Gold and Bronze in 400m (Richard-Ross and Trotter)
      Women's 4x100m Gold (World Record)
Women's 4x400m Gold (5th or 6th Faster time in history)
Gold and Bronze in the Long Jump (Reese and DeLoach)
On the Men side it was very bad. Only Gatlin's bronze at 100m was the only individual sprinter medal. The 4x400m men's placed 2nd with a badly depleted squad. 4x100m did medal and ran the 2nd fastest time, until they were strip of that those medal due to Tyson Gay's PED.
The last time the US men dominate in the 100m to 400m was in Athens in 2004. Only Francis Obikwelu silver medal at 100m stop the US men from sweeping all sprints from 100-200 and 400m.
I know that a lot of the struggles came in lieu of the decade of dominance by Bolt and the Jamaicans men's at 100-200 meters. But also, a lot of young top sprinters in the States were not going into track and were pursuing the dollars from professional football.
Even the long jump, were the US historically have been dominate, they struggled in that event in recent years.
Currently right now the new crop of US sprinters looks to be very good.
100m: Coleman, Baker and Lyles have led the way this year
200m: Lyles has dominated everyone in his passing.
400m: Though WNK will be back, not sure how he will be. US has Norman and Kerley
I hope that USA Track uses Carl or even bring him on a a coach for the sprint relay squad. I believe his knowledge will help this young athletes succeed, like how he and his generation did in the 80's and early 90's.

Carl Lewis acknowledged that he failed three tests during the 1988 US Olympic trials, which under international rules at the time should have prevented him from competing in the Seoul games two months later.
The admission is a further embarrassment for the United States Olympic Committee, which had initially denied claims that 114 positive tests between 1988 and 2000 were covered up. It will add weight to calls by leading anti-doping officials and top athletes for an independent inquiry into the US's record on drug issues.
Dr Wade Exum alleged that a ban imposed on Lewis after positive tests for three stimulants had been overturned by the USOC when the athlete said he had ingested them mistakenly in a herbal supplement.
Lewis received only a warning after officials ruled that his positive tests were due to "inadvertent" use. Some scientists believe the substances could have been a masking agent for more serious drugs, such as anabolic steroids

"Homeboy" is Leroy Burrell. Leroy Burrell's best 100M was 9.85, Carl Lewis' best was 9.86. Leroy's wife was one of the best sprinters in the US and his son Cameron is one of the best sprinters in the US today. To allow someone else to coach your son and your "specialty" takes a ton of grace, openness, awareness and self sacrifice IMO.
