  • WesSpur's Niceguydave take's a look at the Up-Lock carabiners from Rock Exotica, and what makes them different from all other double-locking carabiners Rock Exotica makes.
One of the distinguishing features of Rock Exotica carabiners is their 'pull-down' gates. This makes their double-lockers stand out from the crowd. Some climbers find these gates easier to operate in gloves, or when reaching out or above the head.
Some users have requested that the excellent carabiners have a traditional, push-up gate. Rock Exotica has responded with the new Up-Lock carabiners. If you are accustomed to using carabiners like this, or want to buy a Rock Exotica carabiner but have it match the action of the rest of the carabiners in your kit, now you can.

I understand why they went with the Up-Lock mechanism but personally I like the original (downward) version. The Down-Lock version is so much easier to work with. Switched out all my gear to use the down-lock versions. Thanks for the update and great explanation!

Yes, definitely glad they are keeping the down-gate on everything else - it's unique and many folks prefer it!. Stay safe,

Have been using a Kong brand up carabiner on the end of my lanyards, because when your weighted into it and it’s Inversed, it works way “easier then a down carabiner” it’s one handed and on Fluid motion to take off. TRY IT OUT BROTHER

They work great on the end of rope lanyards, since it’s oriented reverse then regular.

@@runiebaker5237 I'll pass that on to the splicing shop - certainly available on custom lanyards, but could be a nice new kit.

@@WesSpurTreeEquipment I just spliced 5 prusiks out of the bail out 9mm. They are working really SMOOTH on my rope wrench.

I picked up two DMM double locking carabiners cause a local saw shop had some. Now I will say all my other life support carabiners are Rock Exotica that I purchased from Wesspur, I get home and realized that darn DMM are backwards or upward and twist type. I’m gonna stick to the down ward type. I’d love to get a downward type to go with my HH2, but I have gotten some what used to the steel one it came with.
