    I was an Amiga coder and you have to give the guys that made this some serious respect. To do this kind of stuff meant you had to be super creative at optimising code, audio and graphics. Coding had to be done in assembly at the bare metal level of the machine with no pre written libraries, you had to create every graphic, algorithm and compression routines to ebb every last cycle out of hardware that was designed in the early 80s. Only four channels of audio meant creative and careful use of samples that in some cases had to be multiplexed and combined to simulate 8 channels from 4. We would use break beat samples and synth pad samples to flesh out the lack of channels, graphics would be double buffered because the 68k processor in the Amiga was too slow so you would draw a frame in the background ram whilst one was displayed the use bit-plane pointer to switch to the alternative frame whilst drawing the next. Credit to the Amiga hardware design team of Jay Miner and the bedroom coders who took his creation and pushed it to the limits. Salute!

      Is kinda cool (even 30 years later) how there was an underground scene & culture to being an Amiga owner, that you simply didn’t get on the Megadrive. I’m still as impressed with the 3/4 Tubular Bells sample over 4/4 breakbeats, moving to 44 seconds in, when that banging kick drum first comes in! Not a huge fan of nostalgia, but I fair enjoyed this comment. @@Glasweg1an

      @JamieCrookes 7 лет назад +3

      Hey, I just listened to that before re-listening to the original. The remake is excellent. However, it's missing the dirty quality that really makes the music stand out on the original. We have new shiny hardware to thank for that. Not a criticism of your remake though. It's pretty perfect on modern production hardware. The limitations you had to work with back then give the original some real punch. You are no doubt etched into the memories of many thousands of people just like me that will never, ever forget having a copy of this demo for the first time and wishing they had the patience and skill to produce it. Especially the music. I was but a lowly BBS sysop distributing it. BTW, your shameless plug should have pointed out that YOU actually made the original.

      Thanks Jamie. I didn't want to hijack this thread so kept my comment succinct. :) You're right that the remake has lost the grungy charm of the 8-bit original, but hopefully I made up for that with the instrument choices and production values. That said, it still sounds rough to me!
