- The Pyrolyser Mini is a compact, two work-tube system designed for use in fume cupboards, glove boxes, mobile laboratories and conventional laboratories.
It is optimised for the quantitative extraction of volatile radionuclides, such as tritium, carbon-14, chlorine-36 and iodine-129 from solid and liquid samples.
Designed as a compact version of the proven Pyrolyser-Trio family of combustion furnaces, the Mini’s size and unique pivoting design enables the system to be installed and operated in confined spaces either in a vertical or horizontal orientation. Its restriction to two heating zones only, removes the need for a thermal isolation zone and reduces the overall dimensions of the system.
A unique feature allows the furnace system to be pivoted allowing easy servicing and operation in a vertical or horizontal orientation.
Electrical and gas supply controls are housed within a separate control box connected to the furnace via an umbilical to enable location outside the fume cupboard/glove box for ease of operation.
Quartz glass work tubes pass through the two furnace zones and receive specially designed quartz sample boats, end caps and anti-suck back bubblers. Bubblers are connected directly to the work tube via a ground glass joint.
Complete thermal oxidation of volatile combustion products is ensured using a platinum alumina catalyst bed and copper oxide oxidant.
Any sample type can be combusted using this system including plastics, concrete and other construction materials, soils, metals, oils, biota and bioassay materials.
The system can operate without the need for oxygen. Where laboratories do not wish to use oxygen, a thin layer of copper oxide oxidant can be readily loaded above the sample to enhance oxidation of combustion products.
On completion of the combustion cycle. The bubbler traps are removed and aliquots of the trapping solution are removed for measurement.
