Also: In absolute silence as the Night Witches commonly turned off their engines when attacking German positions.
The effectiveness of the Night Witches led Germany and other countrys to also develop their own Night-Regiments or to develop them in higher prioritys
Nazi army created a no-smoking policy outdoors at nights on Ukrainian front after 588th was deployed and made a few raids there.

To this day they are inspiration to the Air Force in armies around the world

They'd fly in groups of three. Each one taking turns being silent to bomb, then restart their engine to be a distraction for the next in line.
They'd also fly from landing strips right on the front lines, running several sorties a night. Sometimes their airfield might not be where they left it last. Lol.

My Sabaton+ playlist just hit 10 hours, but there is also a fair bit of Nightwish, Powerwolf and Amaranthe in there

This is one of my absolute favorites from them. That whole album was full of great songs, then being followed up by Last Stand was amazing. Winged Hussars is a good one to follow up with.

That was probably the best reaction I have ever seen to a song 😂
Just wanted to inform you, yes they idled their engines, still really brave, but it was an inter war bi-plane that they flew in called the PO-2, which if I remember correctly it stalled out at around 50 mph and topped at 150 mph, in other words it was slow for WWII, and throttling down a prop plane is not uncommon, especially for formation flying or at high altitude for better efficiency, it comes down to the propeller still rotating due to wind resistance, which allows for the engine to still run under minimal power. Another point about the plane they flew, it is the only bi-plane to have a confirmed fighter jet kill. This was a maneuver kill on an F-94 Starfire, which stalled out trying to shoot it down in the Korean war.

Oh I have so been waiting for this one. My neck actually hurts from the sheer amount of intense head banging at the beginning and the end.
If you like their fast songs, you will love Firestorm by Sabaton! and Unbreakable! Both are underrated in my opinion since theyre older songs.
Price of a mile, panzerkamph , metal machine, aces in axial is in my opinion their old best songs.

I was standing in front of the cenne at the start of there tour . First Carolus rex album then Heros album with this song at the start. seeing the surchlight going on annthe Nightwitches song in the background.
imagine people who..etc. That `s called patriotism , plain and simple. Thank you mr Rock n Rol but those ladies , they were girls in their earlier twenties are heroines and had to be honored. Story of them is litlle known in the West but they were aces and lethal even they had flied in the wooden plains with no parachutes. Every german soldier who won the fight got Iron Cross. Sublime to them and let memory of those brave proud girls and RODINA live forever. Thank Sabaton for bring this piece of history to the wold.

Another cool tidbit about the Night Witches is that the Navigator would crawl out onto the wing to
then unhook the bomb so that it could fall because the hook would sometimes not work. Imagine doing
that at 90 mph over enemy territory. Oh and the Night Witches planes were made of wood.

"The Last Battle" is a great song about a crazy fight in the austrian alps (15min away from me) where allies/americans and the wehrmacht teamed up for 1 time to fight the nazis in the castle and free the prisoners.

If you want some more Iron Maiden, check out For The Greater Good of God. It is one one of their lesser played songs of the A Matter of Life and Death album. They played it on the recent Legacy of the Beast tour and it was awesome.
FInally Night Witches !!! More Sabaton please !! But u know what, for someone who loves female vocals, I am surprised u have not checked out Battle Beast yet. Noora's vocals are amazing and the guitar riffs are heavenly! If u do decide to check them out, I highly recommend Eden or No more hollywood endings. You wont be disappointed :D

I totally agree with this one. in 1993 I spoke with Charlie Brown in person and when I asked him about what about WW II made the greatest impact on his life, he told me the story behind this song. And for those who love to read about this story I can really advice getting a copy of A Higher Call
