Try it from the Lansen family’s perspective; subsonic, terrible acceleration, *chaff launchers*, RB24 missiles as a tier 4 unlock (which are AIM-9Bs).
Their only redeeming qualities are their guns, and for the A32, great ordnance selection and RWR.

Though i'm guessing you didn't know, or found it less than useful, that you can use rockets as makeshift flares. It's not that reliable but it could help in a pinch.
Step 1: Uses a high altitude interceptor as a low altitude dogfighter with rockets
Step 2: Proceeds to die, blames the aircraft
Lightning isn't amazing but when used as intended it works out decent. Trying to turnfight at 500m ain't it.

Until you get Harriers, Phantoms or Tornados... top tier air UK hurts.
Red Tops are supposed to have partial full aspect and under perform on their stats. All other aircraft are up against late variants.
Trick for use the Lightning... Do old fashioned boom and zoom, so you keep speed so it's easier to dodge missiles.

tip- rockets are good alts to flares
tip for next time you dont have flares if you have rockets shooting them off one at a time slowly when there is a AAM coming at you they can act as flares

Rockets can be used as flares. Turn off your engine and fire some rockets. It won't work all the time from what I've attempted but it does work.

No wonder you're having problems with all that extra drag and no climbing. With flareless supersonics, you need to climb, keep your energy and engage enemies on your terms. Not fly headon into a flock of A-10s.

Using the F.53 is not too hard you've just got to be careful picking targets and making the best out of your ground strike capabilities.

@@twomystical6252 It would. The SRAAMs are too much for that sort of br. Maybe if they removed the missiles it would be a fair 9.0.
@twomystical6252 the major issue with it at 9.0 it would outpace most planes being pretty much the fastest and best subsonic, have a very good payload of 4 sraams which it'd be able to use well at that br, be able to handle aim 9bs well (by notching you get me) it is a very awkward plane that if it had flares would be a lot more playable
@@bencurran3204 Or, they could make it historically accurate and remove the SRAAMs, which I'm pretty sure were never used on any aircraft except for the Hunter F6.
That would make the harrier easier to balance and allow the aircraft to safely move down in br to 9.0, or possibly even 8.7.
@jojomaster7675 apparently it did get used to test the sraam, but it's on the wiki, and there is no links, so it's literally gaijin doing a source? Trust me bro, I'll look into it more. However, it would be awful at 9.0 with no missiles at all, turnrate of 30+ seconds makes it pretty useless in air to air
