- In November 2023, Baylor-Kate Underwood and her family became part of the Bethany Children’s community during one of the most challenging times in their lives. Baylor-Kate was first diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia, followed by autoimmune meningitis. Upon admission, she was unable to walk or talk. Under the care of Pediatric Neurologist Dr. Amber Stocco, Baylor-Kate began her journey with intensive occupational, physical, and speech therapy. The staff and providers at Bethany Children’s surrounded the Underwoods with compassion and support, offering hope during each step of their journey.
On Christmas Day, a milestone came as Baylor-Kate spoke her first words, and from there, her progress continued until her discharge in February 2024. Since returning home to her parents and her sister, Parker, Baylor-Kate has resumed an active life-attending basketball and softball camps with friends and embracing each day with renewed joy.
Today, every smile is celebrated as the Underwood family reflects on their experience and the community that helped them through.
“There are so many levels to how grateful we are. We’re just grateful for our time at Bethany Children’s. It’s a part of our story. Bethany will always be in Baylor-Kate’s testimony, and ours.” - Paul & Emily Underwood
