Hi everyone! I'm an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through RUclips videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let's be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!
Having a diverse perspective is crucial to what I want to achieve here so please don't hold back! I want to learn about all I can! Keep recommending and PLEAESE join my Discord :) ( / discord )

Croatia underrated? That depends who you ask,for a country under 4 million people,it has 20 million tourists. You should come sometime
First time I hear that Croatia in underrated. Maybe for an American, but here in Europe it's superpopular.
Connor I've travelled a lot. The only people I've ever come across who complain about seeing so many tourists, is other tourists. Places like the Greek Islands are economically dependent on tourists. All they ask of you is behave yourself. Don't try to walk into a church where a family wedding is going on. That sort of stupid stuff. They never want you not to come, just to respect their home. For you Connor I'd recommend the village of Souvala in the north of the Island of Aegina. Aegina is the closest island to Athens. From there you can day trip to Athens, Poros, Mykonos, Hydra, ancient Corinth and Agamemnon's citadel at Mycenae. I did. In between those trips I swam, relaxed on the beaches, ate the food and drank the wine and the beer. Wandered round Aegina Town and Aegina's own historical sites like the temple of Aphaia. Look the place up mate, it's for you. Don't worry about not speaking the language, I couldn't. I tried, but I was so awful at it they preferred I spoke English. That way, even with a Scot's accent they could understand what I was saying.
Come in Genoa, underrated city in Italy, rich of architecture, story and stunning panorama. Very good local food
Paris does not live off tourist money (only about 8%) but we have to put up with millions of tourists all the time. There is no solution, but covid was brilliant!
If I were you I would be more concerned about the millions of illegals invading your country and not the tourists. Us tourists are contributing lots of money to your economy, so be grateful for that!
As a person originally from Prague, I say - EXACTLY! During covid, it was perfect, I mean like city was for native people, no horders of tourists everywhere. Here in Czechia, only like 3% of our GPD is from tourism, so I don't really believe this madness is worthy, especially when all those Brits, Germans and Danes just go here for one night, do some mess and drink some alcohol and then return home. They let more garbage here than they spend money.
On other hand, I like American pensioner tourists, because they are really traveling around and want to see things, not just do mess, these are tourists we should attract. And in Prague, situation is not even close to that madness you have in Paris or Barcelona and such cities and it's still pretty crazy.
The most annoying thing is that people who lived in city for generations now have to leave because they can't afford to live in their native city anymore because of prices going crazy. Not only because of classic tourism, but also because of so-called "expats" who move to countries that are cheaper for them and they are increasing prices there, because why rent your apartment for 750 eur, when some "digital nomad expat" will pay 1500 and will be happy how cheap it is in this country.
@@Pidalin Dobry vecer. Jak se mate? To my opinion Prague is the most beautiful town in Europe ❤
I find some parts even of my dear old Stockholm pretty overcrowded by tourist nowadays.
He didn't mention Rome stunningly beautiful but so many people 😮
Or London.. He called out Dublin, which is busy but Galway is far more touristy and hella busy without as much infrastructure.
@@dzzope blame who made the original video
I went to Santorini 30 years ago and found it slightly crowded even then. Now in my 50s I just go to beautiful remote places like my local woods.
I lived in a small town in Italy (Traversetolo, Province of Parma). I rarely saw people on streets.
Venetian here. Yep. The place has become an open-air museum/Disneyland . Everything is catered for tourists and us natives are treated like some kind of Navajo in a reservation. In some areas it's basically impossible to move, only chances are nights or early mornings. No surprize the place is basically dying and most of the people have moved out of the city (myself included). Buying a house or just renting has become impossible (not if you are a billionaire, of course). No way I'm going back.
100% on Croatia. Plitvice Park / falls. Nuff said.
Everybody always talks about the money that comes in with tourism. Depending on the tourists, many cities have almost just as much, and some even more, expenses due to these tourists. Tourism is great, until it becomes too much.
Beautiful places victims of their success ... all at the detriment of THE LOCAL RESIDENTS whose quality of life is RUINED!!! And who feel EXCLUDED from their own cities!
Very odd he didn't show segments of videos when Venice is actually empty, generally the city is packed of people, or at least, we could see brief segments of the Carnival of Venice, in fact if you just watch any video about that you'll see how thick a crowd can be!! Especially Rome city, which he didn't mention neither, is absolutely crowded any period of the year!!
I am so glad that Venice stopped the cruise ships from entering its waters. It wasn't just the number of people it brought in, it was also because those massive ships were a threat to the buildings and other structures so unique to Venice. The huge waves these ships create have a negative effect on the currents and on the foundations of the places they rumble past and they also pump out tons of sewage and other pollutants. I remember seeing a huge cruise ship in Greece and I still do not understand how they were ever given permission to make them. Tourists who travel on cruise ships are also notorious for not spending much in the ports that they visit, so they arrive, wear out the pavements and then walk away without having put anything into the local economy. I heard recently that there is a place in Kenya where tourists, (not on cruise ships) visiting a national park have piped water which is not made available to the people who live there and has been diverted away from them. Shame on these companies and those who go on these holidays who fail to look into the impact they may be having.
Connor, if you are planning to come to Italy you can come stay in Verona and move to Venice which is only 100 km far or to Milan 150 km far... it'd take about 1 hour by train for both the cities. Verona is located in the middle. Take a look at the map.
Moreover if you want to visit other cities you might stay in Bologna which is:
Florence 1.40 hours by train
Rome 2 hours by train
Bologna has some very interesting places to visit and one of the oldest universities in the world. A relative of mine studied there and loved every minute, people were so friendly and kind.
@@weejackrussell yes true!
I think this is more about certain cities over countries that get too much tourism per year, but overall, France and Spain are two of the most popular destinations in the world and in the case of France I would imagine that Paris is a top tourist spot.
This is kinda the downsides of being so successful with such a long and rich history, whiles having a stable environment, the flock of seagulls will want to visit and it will probably get worse as more of the world developers, more people will travel, so it's kinda a blessing and a curse, a bit like natural resources for countries, it can bring in a lot of money, but it's probably not that nice for the natives living in those cities that have a lot of tourism.
You're right about locals getting fed up of tourism and that's the case for almost the whole coast of french riviera. The only period of the year to get there is the begining of the spring till first half of june local people by that time are nice and relax and friendly but as soon as the real flood of tourists arrive they get rude and angry.
London.....need i say more
3:40 I don't see these walls as standard. You find them mainly on the newest (or renovated) stations.
They are standard in countries like Japan and Korea.
@@lordwalker71 Which are also the countries with the highest sui**** rates lol
@@lordwalker71 Yes, but as he was talking about Europe, I answered that part.
When I was in Wienna in 2012 they were already used.
Surprise he didn't mention the Canary Islands where tourism is having a very negative impact on the quality of life of the people who live there.
One-day tourists are a problem. They bring little money, but they create a crowd. Attractive tourist cities struggle with such one-day tourism, hence the entry fees to the city.
Only the tourist traps 😂
tourist places are busy - what a "revelation" :/
No Rome???? Are you kidding?
I prefere to travel around Europe in the winter, or at least Spring/Autumn. In summer, I hate to be living in Prague. I love to travel but I hate overtourism, especially organised groups of sheep who can't just travel on their own, walking like dumb idiots, making life for the locals hell.
Before watching, yes, we are overcrowded,. It's called gentrification and turists, digital nomads and our own politicians are to blame. Sorry if I don't sound too welcoming.
A professional tourist complaining about tourism 😂
As soon as you said Wolter I fast forwarded gave you a like and turned off.
Yeah! That Wolter is an idiot. All he does is babble away for twenty minutes without giving you anything of the sense of being there.
Seems to me that you should be more concerned about the millions of illegals invading your country and not the tourists that your economy prfofits from!
